Giouvetsi is one of my favorite Greek dishes of all time. Akis makes it simply right. Someone certainly watched while his Yiayiá made this dish for him as a child...!

I had forgotten how wonderful this dish was. I will make it as the weather gets cooler this October. I believe my Mom used cumin in this dish, a distinctive taste, not cinnamon, but I have used cinnamon in Greek meat dishes before. Momma was Italian, Poppa Greek, so you know Olive Oil was king in the household. She was such a wonderful cook and created both regional Greek dishes from this blue vintage Greek cook book she kept on the kitchen hutch, and Italian dishes, from her memory. Thanks again Akis for the recipe!

Akis... This was incredible!! Tasted just like home, thank you for the amazing recepie.. My French and British friends LOVED it and I got to share one of the flavourite greek classics with them... I used lamb instead of beef and it was perfect. Taaadaaaaa!
My father passed away a few months ago, and my box of recipes was lost when having an open house. Decided to make your version of Giouvetsi, and it was excellent! I believe the whole cinnamon sticks made a dramatic difference, but I have never added lemon zest or feta shavings before - your recipe is a keeper! Can't wait to try your other recipes, keep them coming!

This recipe is perfect! I have made it with lamb and beef and it is amazing. Akis is so easy to follow.
Made this today and it is excellent. Don't get mad Akis, but I used my Instant pot to cook the stew. I did transfer the stew and the toasted orzo into my enamel cast iron pot to finish it off in the oven. Delicious!

This looks so delicious, well done you! We just came back from our Greek holiday and we ate the best giouvetsi ever in Sifnos, and I had many before! But that Sifnian one was just perfect, so juicy and full of beefy flavour OMG! I am definitely making this dish asap

Last week we tried the fantastic feta cheese frybread recipe. Yesterday we prepared the Giouvetsi. We not only enjoyed the dish itself, but also the making of it brought a smile to our faces. The smell of all the aromas together is amazing ! You should try it, you will not regret it. Next week on the menu: the only real moussaka :-)

I made this after getting withdrawal symptoms from my greek holiday :-). Absolutely awesome and tasted really authentic...just as good as the restaurants I tried it in.
after my Greek holidays, I always looked for spinach+ feta pastry! Luckily I can find it at Costco, but now I can also follow Akis' recipe
Hi Akis, can you substitute beef with chicken? or is this a different recipe altogether? we had Chicken Giouvesti in Rhodes this year, which was amazing. I`ve already done this recipe and love it but want to try a chicken version also, thanks.
Delicious! I used beef stock instead of water and browned the orzo a little bit to give it even more flavor. soo good we ate until it hurt! My family loved it and my 16 and 8 year old gobbled it up.

That looks great. I would also add the juice from half a lemon at the same time as the zest. The acid will cut through the richness of the dish and really let the flavors pop !
