I need to make a correction here about the weight of Hennessy Hyperlight hammock with the lightest Hennessy full coverage tarp. The correct weight is actually about 2.93 lbs, according to their website, which is lighter than this system (or about the same if you remove the weight of the stakes from this system). I did my math incorrectly, and I apologize. I do not want to mislead anyone.
Due to the integrated tarp/net/hammock - That makes the hammock wide and spacious for me! A lot of space = Comfort for a "hammock enjoyer". ( I am 192cm tall = about 6 foot 4 )
Thanks for an honest review. I’ve been looking for a lightweight hammock system lately, but haven’t found one lighter than my tent and sleeping pad, and lines and stakes.
Man, that's a pretty well thought out system! The pads have always been a pain in my book anyway! I'll have to check this system out! Great review brother!
Nice video, thanks for sharing your thoughts. IMHO, this is the kind of design that looks good on first impression, but when you actually use it then you find out its shortcomings. So that's why videos like this are so useful and important. Just by looking at it, and not having tested this myself I've noticed that the only advantage this system offers over a separate hammock & tarp system is the quick set-up. Everything else seems to come with disadvantages. The stitching on the tarp is a potential point of failure. Having the tarp that close to you is kind of a problem, in cold weather condensation from your own breath might accumulate above, then run down the sides until it touches the bug net, then trickle down to the hammock. But if it's really cold then you probably don't have to worry about biting insects, so you could detach the hammock from the bug net and setup the tarp much higher. In warm weather however, where there's usually plenty of insects you might not want to detach the hammock, but if you don't then the tarp is so close to you that it prevents good ventilation, so you might be suffocating in there if it's really warm outside. The fact that it's a double-layer hammock is a plus for heavy users, but the real purpose of that design is to be able to fit a pad between the layers, but as demonstrated on the video, the way the pad is secured with those loops might not be the most comfortable position for you. Most hammockers at this point have realized that underquilts are more comfortable than pads, and you could certainly use an underquilt with this hammock, but then the double layer becomes added unnecessary weight.
I agree with all your points here. The hammock is built almost like a single wall tent, which usually has condensation problems. A single layer version would be great too to cut some dead weight. Thanks for the watching and for the great comment!
If you remove the hammock, do the two bugnet zips zip together? That'd make the tarp/net a handy bug-free storage area to hang food etc from the ridgeline in. IF it is possible ofc.🤘🙂
It is very similar to the mantis. I will be using it in the future, and if I have any kind of catastrophic failure, I will definitely do an update video.
Wonder if you can get them in Australia cool bit of gear there we got a good laugh picturing you trying to hide on a stealth camp and blowing the mattress up that would make a funny video
😂😂😂 That mattress is definitely too loud to be stealthy. It would be hilarious! I would guess that they can ship to Australia. I believe it comes direct from China.
@@DickInTheDirt I replaced the loud "SkyNest Spacial Inflatable Mat" with a more silent Exped Down mat (but for me it was due to need of extra insulation by the down lining in winter conditions) in combination with the Travelbird underquilt.
@StefanKull-home That's a good idea! The one that comes with it is definitely not insulated. Exped makes good sleeping pads. I have a double for me and my wife.
Hey Adam! Thanks for the question. I cover that in my pros and cons near the end of the video. That's definitely one of the cons for me with a system like this. Packing a wet tarp in the same stuff sack with your hammock means a wet hammock when you get to your next destination. You would have to let it dry out before you could put your insulation on/in your hammock. You can separate the hammock from the tarp with this system before packing it up, but that's an extra step during the teardown.
I'm not sure what the legth is but it's definitely longer than the pad. It should fit fine in ground mode. You wouldn't really need to use the pad sleeve in ground mode either.
I suspect that air valve will loosen up after a bunch of use, but I doubt that you will continue to use it for the hammock… being a UQ guy and all. Nice review DITD!
Thank you, Stitch! I suspect that you're right about the valve. The underquilt is just more functional for me than a sleeping pad in a hammock. I've even tried a sleeping pad in my bridge hammock and wasn't really crazy about it.
I think they probably did it for comfort as some people like to use sleeping pads in their hammocks. The hammock is perfectly comfortable without a pad, and I prefer it that way. I also think that they may offer the pad for using the hammock system as a tent on the ground. It does defeat the purpose of a sleeping pad for warmth when it's not insulated, though. The pad isn't really proprietary, per se, as you can use any pad, and this pad could be used on its own. They made the hooks and loops to address the pad sliding around in the hammock, which is an issue in almost any double layered hammock. The only pad that I know of that's specifically designed for a hammock is the KLYMIT Hammock V Sleeping Pad. It has "wings" on it that help cover the sides of the hammock, and it is insulated. Maybe in the future, if enough people ask for an insulated pad, they might make one? Thanks for watching and commenting!

Looks like a nice system! 👍✌️
Thanks for watching. They are selling them on amazon now if you're interested.
I am impressed with this system
Me too. I like it. It's for sale on Amazon now, too.
Nice review, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sqwib!
Really love the idea of attaching the bug net directly to the tarp. Internal poles would make this thing a luxury space for any hammock enjoyer.
I agree. A pole mod would be fantastic!

Great review brother that is a really well thought out system! Quick deploy!
Thank you. It's definitely fast for us stealth campers. 😉

You're welcome. Thank you for watching. There are lighter systems out there but not at this price point. And it's easy to set up.
Proper gear review video. Love the lightweight gear. ✌🏼
Thank you brother!!

Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful.
Looks like a great system. I would try it if I had not bought a new hammock last year.
I probably wouldn't spring for it either if I already had a setup that I liked, but then again, I am sometimes an impulsive gear buyer. 😂

Wow, really great design. They thought of everything. Great review! Not a bad price either.
Thank you! I was pretty impressed by it and by the companies responsiveness to communications.
Agree! The makers of this Hammock thought of EVERYTHING, besides the Seams!!! Hope they send me one of the NEW and IMPROVED Hammocks to try out!
It's definitely very well thought out! They said that the final product will definitely have sealed seams. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Nice video, have a cool adventure 🤗

I haven't tried to do that but I'm fairly sure that it won't. It would be a great feature, though.
@DickInTheDirt Sod removing a whole zip to flip it around haha!🤘😁
BIG LIKE 32! Watching with interest!
Thank you!
Seems like they took the design of the Kammock Mantis all in one, but took it to another level! Wonder how the quality is long term 🤔

I could use a hammock like this here at The Ole Church 5 Acre Homestead!
What's your opinion on packing the tarp and hammock together? Especially when it is raining.

is skynest a sym??
It is symmetrical so you can lay any direction.
Whats the length in ground mode?, looks like the pad just fits
I'm not sure what the legth is but it's definitely longer than the pad. It should fit fine in ground mode. You wouldn't really need to use the pad sleeve in ground mode either.
ist thing need do is drop those tree straps for pair of DD 15 loops longer
That would be a good upgrade.

Hi, look great, i think you will like de german AMAZONAS traveller camp. Greetings
Thank you. I checked out that hammock. I really like the design, but I don't think I can get it here in the United States.
Wait, so they sell a proprietary pad but it's not insulated ? Is it for comfort ? A hammock should be comfortable without the need of a pad...
