Hauling the FishLocker Lobster Pots - Hard days work in strong North winds | The Fish Locker

  • The UK has been hit by the tail winds of Hurricane Fiona and the weather has been very gusty. I take a break in the weather to try to check our pots. What will we catch in our Lobster pots? We love working a small number of lobster pots from our small family boat. Such a wonderful and rewarding experience that often brings delicious rewards. Hauling our lobster traps by hand makes it all the more rewarding when you catch something to eat. Join me as we check our pots and talk you through the things we catch. Teaching about the marine world and how to care for it - Including conservation regulations that are in place in Cornwall UK.

Your site just happened to pop up one day and I watched it because you were walking the shore live. That is something I love to do but only get the opportunity every 5-6 years. Since that day I have been a fan. I learned so much about fishing. With every episode, I'm more and more shocked about how much actually goes into the science of fishing. I truly thought you just bought any pole along with whatever bait you wanted to touch and threw the line in the water. ( go ahead and laugh, I never fished). I'm also impressed by what a wonderful Father you are! You give your children a wonderful gift by being an example for them in family values, ethics, and moral behavior. I hope more dads around the world take notes.

Did well, mate. Hand hauling crab pots is no joke, and doing it 'single handed', is as tough and as dangerous, as it gets. I know this because a few years ago, my brother and myself, used to work our own Orkney Fastliner, in the River Humber and down the coast to Chapel Saint Leonards. So total respect to you mate. And 'by heck', watching your vids doesn't half bring back some memories, mate. One crazy but true story, was wen wen was 'steaming' out of the river at full speed, which was about 20 to 25 knots. Our boat was empty, with only a fish box full of crab pot bait, as we were going out to empty and rebait our pots. So here we are doing 25 knots (as you will know thats fast for a work boat), and i sh%t you not, a huge male seal, basically launched itself out of the water and belly flopped into our little Fastliner, in an attempt to steal our crab pot bait. My brother who was stearing the outbourd engine, crapped himself, and managed to climb outbourd of our outbourd engine. Leaving me to 'fight', with this huge, nasty, snarling, snotting, grunting, abserlute mauler of a seal, that was 'well up for a kick of'. Anyway, long story short, after a few blows were exchanged, the seal decided that it probably wasn't worth the hassle, and he flopped back in the the River Humber. Lol, lol. I s%#t you not that's a very true but crazy sounding thing that happened to us. Lol.
Anyway mate loving your vids. Your hard work and knowledge is second to none.
    Cheers mate.
    Mick.

The guy is just naturally funny, or at least thats how he comes across on his vids. He's had me crying with laughter many times. ) So yeah another collaboration wud always go down well. Am i being cheeky to ask if you both have anything planned ?
Eitherway i love your vids with or with out Mr Haze. (Infact i don't mind if you was to tell him that i preferred your vids without him, lol. Just for the 'wind up', lol.) Okeedoke nice one mate thanks for the reply, and i'm looking forward to your next vid.

Heyo. I used to have pet rats and the only pet that came close was getting a free roaming rabbit. This was before doubling them up was common practice or knowledge. I have two cats as of now, and I love them to bits. But even these can't match the sheer attitude, sass and cuddlyness of that rabbit. It might be something to look into if you feel like rats are amazing, yet hate their 2year lifespan

👍Smashin footage John👍 Love how you take the time to explain what you're doing and give plenty of info,it helps people understand and learn...I appreciate how hard it is hauling pots in mate, especially against the tide 🤬🤬

      - John - I noticed in several of your most recent pot hauling videos and especially @ 24:35 in this one, that you are no longer showing us you deploying your floats after shooting your pots back.
You clever devil, you are editing your footage so the folks you suspect of checking your pots before you do, don't know what colors to look for at sea. Great idea! At least if they are going to steal your catch or traps, they'll have to work a lot harder for their supper. 🤠

You can tell that you were right about the conditions, apart from you dancing around there are no, or very few boats out on the water. Nevertheless your hard work was rewarded with 2 good lobsters & 2 good crabs. I am sure you have or will enjoy them all. Thanks for the great natural commentary that we always get along with all the relevant informative information. Cheers mate & regards to all the family, Don from South Aust.

Half hundred weight. I know how hard it is to carry weights of shellfish! Huge plastic beanbags, hundred weight full of either wrinkles p, clans, oysters. Those were the days. Out on the mudflats, they having to get your catch and gear back to shore. Old Tilly lamp, before I upgraded years later to headlamps. I would get slipper limpets before the tide ran off. I would shuck them, wash them, drain and them, bag them up. For the main fishing bait market. I was so fit back then., :0)
