Man, your videos are crucial for anyone prepping for the steps or any other exam. Because of your videos, I have been able to get rid of routines and habits that would normally slow down my prep and cause burnout. First was the unnecessary note taking, which I realized was not helpful for me at all. Recently I think I have come to understand what you meant by the exam being a different beast, for instance I have been watching lectures hoping to build stronger foundations but I have come to realize that uworld questions are totally different beast. Its like studying every detail about the basics of flying a plane only to get questions about a pilot who had to overcome a stormy weather and almost crashed and how he managed to escape the storm. This is not the best analogy, but because of this I prefer to just do questions first or along with lectures. Normally I would want to finish all of the lectures before attempting the qbank equivalent of that subject. Now I realize I don't even have to watch all the lectures, just areas which I'm having difficulty with, sometimes I still feel guilty and think I am missing out on much information. Thanks for making these videos.
Great video 👏🏻 I have a few things to add that may help someone 1. Prioritize your mental and physical health over everything else. If you are not ok, you won’t be able to give your 100% and you will waste your time. A few weeks ago I started to feel back pain but I pushed myself and it got to the point that I couldn’t focus because it hurt a lot so I had to take an entire week off to recover from it. If I had not stopped, it could’ve been more than a week and that would’ve affected my study plan. 2. If possible, leave room for things that are not part of your plan. My week off for example was not expected but I had time left on my schedule to reorganize everything I had to do that week.
9:55 this is extremely important. The factor that I remember that ended up importing my score by a lot. I was not aware that I had exam anxiety and performance anxiety. After all, I was used to taking exams. I remember the first time I did 6x blocks back to back under exam condition with an hour break. I ended up missing about 45q overall despite knowing them super well. It took me 3 days to figure out how and why I missed them. Contrary to popular belief, I missed 9q during my first block and my best blocks were the final ones once my nerve settled. The sad part was that I was unaware of it. So if you are reading this. Take your first full on exam practise 6 weeks before your actual test then repeat once a week. You will see the huge improvements after your 3rd exam.
I hope I can pass USMLE I Don't haves a job,I am 36 years old all my dreams related to USMLE,if I can choose between my life and USMLE I would choose USMLE
I failed my USMLE exam 2 times first was 2020 second was 2021 and I lost money on review questions and also wasted a lot of time studying which never helped me .
I believe that your videos are more useful and time saving for medstudents than may other vloggers with unnecessary sh*t. Hope you keep doing more such videos and help the medfraternity survive 😅
Hi my friend- Dr. Santiago! Just wanted to ask if you can share some advice on how to crush the tough questions like on stats, genetics and basically anything which requires a complicated formula (eg: dosage, Vol of Dist etc..)??
Plzz make a video on best way to study all the "ologies" with best strategy and resource for each subject...cuz I'm a 1st year med school student and have a lot of time
Hey Carol, it varied. During the first couple of months it could very well take the entire morning (7-12). Once the questions started repeating the same concepts over and over again the review time was significantly reduced. There were some blocks that took me just a couple of hours. Keep in mind I did all the questions on tutor mode so I did not had to reread the stem twice, that also helped.
Now i am in first prepare for step1 ..but i can't end one block in single day because all my day only goes on just a few questions..are that is normal or there is a problem in me??
It could be normal. We all have different rhythms, and there is no need to rush your learning. As time goes by and questions start to repeat themselves you get more efficient. Having said that, I do have a video on getting more efficient on reviewing question banks. It’s in the USMLE playlist, hope it’s of use!
