Thank you for this, I really appreciate the way in which you speak about Kendrick's music and your journey with it. I agree that curiosity can help lead to healing. I like that you guys are taking that approach with your talk show and practice in psychology. I'm curious about what y'all spoke about hoodies on, lol, what were the findings? As a poet myself, hoodies as a topic seems like it could have some poetic angles to it!
aaaah I love this thank you so much for commenting! I just went and watched your review on your channel and subscribed. As a 90's guy myself I related to having big feelings about SWV lol. When I think back to middle school I can hear....I GET SO WEAK IN THE KNEES I CAN HARDLY SPEAK....ha ha! I'm so glad that you find that there could be poetry in discussing hoodies. I think that's one of the fun things about the pod is that once we start talking we do come to find that there is so much more beauty and poetry and complexity to these topics than we thought. We should be releasing that episode in a week or two and I'd love to know what you think: ) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Great video!! I only got into Kendrick's music this year during the Drake beef - had many long conversations with friends about the media traction that it was getting while the student encampments were going on and how weird that was, being in a young & politically progressive cultural space (we agree that Macklemore won the beef with Hind's Hall lmao) I've listened to gnx many times since its release and can't wait to get into all of the other albums. Kendrick writes himself as a very compelling character; I'm especially interested in the way he writes his faith into his music - I'd love to hear your take on that! Either way, this was a lovely listen as a study break, and I'm looking forward to hearing what you put out next, both here and on the pod :)
Oh!!! Emily!!!!!! This is just so perfect and fun to hear from you via no small thing on youtube. I miss you! Yes Macklemore won that beef lol. And to his credit was one of the only major pop culture figures who really explicitly took a stand on Palestine. Yes- the FAITH element in Kendrick's music is so compelling. I think he does identify pretty strongly as a Christian, but as an artist seems to be free to incorporate elements and concepts from other faith systems. I know he's big into associating with Gemini's and the good/ bad dualities of human nature...but jeez...I wish we could just have a classic casual rebel night and talk about this. I hope you're doing well!
aaaaah yes- it's such a protective shield! Because I know if I like it and it's something I would want to hear than it has to be "good enough" or someone else out there would like it because I think i have pretty decent taste:)
