Let's get this straight: Parky came from a workin' class background: Had no rich Daddy: No privileged Family: No Public School: N' no pretentious Snobby accent. Yet he STILL made it to the very TOP in spite of not a single privilege that those snobby twerps had. The MAN was a REAL MAN in any company high or low n' not many can say that.
I don’t think that you had to be “posh “but you had to be able to be able to speak English and remember there is a th in the English language and not replace it with F or V ie with wiv three free
But guess which presenter from Yorkshire the BBC didn't have an attitude with. In fact, they acted totally the opposite & were into him big time. Jimmy Saville.
It was just sad the way he spoke to Muhammad Ali where Ali was stating the obvious about wanting his grandchildren to look like him and Parkinson was pushing the BBC line with his horrified look and basically accusing Ali of being a racist. That was a real low point for me and I lost all respect for him that day. To say he didn't fit in at the BBC when he was aggressively pushing that tripe onto one of the greats that he interviewed seems to me to be re-writing history and is asking us to ignore the evidence of our own eyes and ears. "Parky" was one of them or he would never have been on the screen for all those years.
Parkinson was very lucky in his career, he started as a local Football Match Reporter on a Yorkshire paper. When the Regional ITV started there was a dearth of talent and he ended up doing the same but then he started doing Film reviews, so then the station got on the Promo Circuit of the Film Distributors and the 'Stars' did interviews with him, I think the BBC regarded that as 'advertising'. So he basically 'Rose Without Trace'. Best of luck to Parkie, but he really was not that good. Sort of lower class version of Frost.
Eric Hollies Was one of the finest slow bowlers this country ever produced, but he was from old hill, and hardly ever picked for England, because of his strong Black Country accent, and often changed apart from the rest of the team. He missed a Tour of Australia when being the leading wicket taker in England. Prejudice has existed forever, and isn’t just about colour
The best one was "Road rage" as soon as it was given a name every one was getting out of there car and smashing someone's face in. The interesting one of late is names given to weather avents Plooms and bombs.just to put in that level of fear. The problem with the syndrome is when I have one I get depressed then I need medication. I might then need a body part cut off, all costs money and someone makes a profit.
Interesting video. I came to Australia over fifty years ago and people still ask me where in England I come from. Of course when I visit my sister in England she says that I sound so Australian. ! I only notice that I sound English when I play back a video on which I am speaking. Weird don’t you think? 🤔🤔🤔
Working class guilt , akin to hate a wasted emotion , not to speak ill of the dead , though if the great pretender actually felt as described by his son I can't imagine he would have opined Jade Goody in death or life as he did . I accept he probably didn't grasp the concept of Reality TV . being more from a let's pretend we like the person we are interviewing mind set . b t w in my late sixties now I was always a fan of M P , before those comments about a kid from the area who in her own way made good . may they both REST IN PEACE !
I always liked Michael Parkinson he is from good old Yorkshire same as me why should people look down on you from the place you come from and I've only been to London twice and always glad to get back up north
A few weeks ago I commented that Stephanie was almost unlistenable due to poor breath control. In this interview, she sounds so much more relaxed and it really comes across in her voice. A pleasure to listen to her today.
The pathetic Gen Z use it to imply victimhood and as an excuse for failure. It's saying I'm not worthy. I don't deserve to be here. Why am I paid so much etc...
The first major network brave enough to create and embrace an anti woke channel will become the most popular among viewers This goes for many companies and their products too.
Imposter syndrome. I've never herd of such a load of rubbish. The problem is not Imposter syndrome. Its over payed academics giving names to things we just need to shake off and get on with life and stop obsessing about what we haven't got.
This was a good clip- people chatting about their fears- nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels like that sometimes. Parky's down-to-earth approach is what made him so likable and relatable.
He didn’t fit in at the BBC because he wasn’t a kiddie fiddler
Of course Mr Parkinson was the best - He’s from Yorkshire!!
I always drink Yorkshire tea! Only the best for me.
Nuff said!
Probably knew he wouldn't cover up for their horrendous cover ups, luved parky,

Jimmy Saville.
And rightly so.
The man was a complete imposter.
And old before his time.
That comment will get a few people going 😅😅😅
Parky was anti human.
Campaigned for decades for birth control and population reduction.
Doesn’t matter wear you come from if you. Have talent then it does matter😢
Where !
Today this is called virtue signalling? Telling us that you didn’t fit in at the BBC who would want to these days 🤣🤣

A brilliant interviewerand charming man! Full of charisma.

The class system is nonsense.
Watched him on James martin ( the chef) and he was the most down to earth tv star id seen for years, could have listened to him for hours

His interviews with Cupid Stunt are memorable, he was fine with people taking the micky out of him. He’s sorely missed
You'd have to actually work to be working class, just because your parents did doesn't make you the same.
I always liked Michael Parkinson he is from good old Yorkshire same as me why should people look down on you from the place you come from and I've only been to London twice and always glad to get back up north
Cockney accents are not that common with presenters either, so it's not about people preferring London accents, not that I care one way or the other.
Like that today working class are at the bottom

I only listen to Dolan and Farage and Wootton. Forget the rest
He was genuine in a fake world. He did an amazing job. Warm and well mannered. Salt of the earth. Not ego driven or up himself.
❤
Where did you get that term, “imposter syndrome”
The pathetic Gen Z use it to imply victimhood and as an excuse for failure.
It's saying I'm not worthy.
I don't deserve to be here.
Why am I paid so much etc...
Thank you. Where did you learn that?
He was a Legend. Nobody can take that away, and makes me like him even more.
Tosser
guily my arse

Don't know who he was, but he sounds downright, American! Well done! RIP, Parky!
Blah blah blah he not even cold in the ground and the media class can't wait to use him for their own Propaganda
What would be the intent of this 'propaganda'?
It is just a shame that someone with his talent and coming from the working class background that he did, wouldn't get a job in the media these days.
Another sad loss , another man lost from an era when Britain was a proud strong country as opposed to the crap we’ve turned into !!
'Imposter syndrome'? Is this a new woke term?
Imposter what!? Give it a break please
This was a good clip- people chatting about their fears- nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels like that sometimes. Parky's down-to-earth approach is what made him so likable and relatable.
Why talk about him when he is no longer here.
