I’ve been sewing for thirty five years and have the best machine they ever made, a Bernina 930, I don’t like the new machine’s with so many embroidery stitches its not necessary, I want them to bring out a new machine that is equivalent to the 930 in quality and function, for professional sewers who do not need the additional stitches, we need a fast reliable machine that will sew through anything and have a great buttonhole function and preferably not computerised.

Couldn't agree more! The most ideal machine would be a record series quality and material build mechanical machine with a huge harp space for quilting, a mechanical needle threader for aging sewer eyes and an even feed foot . Give me the colorful knobs and dials and keep your touch pads for the mobile phones. I want a reliable precision engineered tank for sewing, not a plastic computerized rubbish that's made to break, throw away and replace asap!

This is a very helpful video. I’m considering a Bernina machine. I need something that will hold up well for piecing and quilting. I’ve had 4 Janome machines (2 mechanical and 2 computerized) and have really liked them while they worked. However, the 2 computerized machines have not held up well, with the “motherboard” going out after a few years. Right now I’m using one of my Singer 301’s which is doing a fabulous job, but I want the convenient features and extra stitches.

I bought a Bernina 480 a few months ago after always having a mechanical machine. I so wish I had done this before. It does take a while to get used to it but that is probably the same with any new machine. However, now I love it and have used it a lot. I actually think it has improved the finish on the garments I make because I can set it to do exactly what I want. Also I am now always going to use a walking foot as it definitely improves how the fabric passes through the feed dogs. Again, it takes a while to get used to (and I was reluctant to use it at first) but it is so worth persevering with.

My wife has both of the machines (new last year) shown in this video and both of them have been nothing but trouble,
She seems to work on them more than she sews with them.
At least I think it's both of those I know she bought them in some sort of a package deal where she got the big machine for embroidery and she got the smaller one for regular sewing, but again they both have been very problematic.
I will add one more thing the place she bought the machines in Lexington have been next to zero as far as help.

Heavens, I do feel for you. Even the cheapest Bernini is a considered purchase but to invest in these machines and have repeated problems is dreadful. I hope Bernina has attended to both rogue machines long before now.

Ouch, bummer. When you invest that much money into a sewing machine, you want to believe that you’ve made a fool proof purchase. I hope this was resolved to your satisfaction.

I want one… but I sure would NEVER spend the equivalent of a car (albeit cheap car, but these are still $8k-$20k for the new Berninas in NZ) on a sewing machine UNLESS I won lotto, seems ridiculous … you only need straight stitch and maybe zigzag and you can do anything, I can drive my vintage 1010 like it’s a full-blown embroidery machine anyways… but ….they sure are beautiful so I still drool over them! 💋

Currently my 22 yr old Mechanical Elna is in the shop. I hope it can be fixed. Looking into new machines now. I quilt and make bags; so I need a motor with strength. The BSR is very interesting to me.

My 1280, one of the first computerized machines lasted over 30 years. Used it a lot! She got regular care. And that is the key. Oil often and lots of needle changes..Traded in for a 480. Love it, I quilt now, no longer sewing garnents and the precision is top notch. Expecting this will be my last machine. Well unless I trade up into the 700 or 800 machines. :)

  • @alfa5243

Yes I know the difference between mechanical and automatic. But why can’t I get an electronic button hole that is perfect? Even when my
Patchwork machine was new it has always messed up the programmed button hole.

I have a 930 that I love but I am wearing it out. Had to put a new board in about 20 years ago. I understand I can't get it fixed again.
I do a lot of garment sewing with a few quilts just for family thrown in. I would love a new version of the 930. And would love to still use the twenty different feet I have.
I got to have something that can sew winter coats and suit jackets. Chaps and leather motorcycle jackets. Baby smocked dresses and fine lingerie.
The 930 has done all this easily.

Great video - I learned a few things about my new Bernina 480. And I got the new Bernina 880 Plus too. EEEK. I'm feeling pretty comfortable with my B480 now. Working up to doing more on my B880, LOL. Love your "customer service" ethics. Wish I lived in Texas, just for your great service! Well done.

    770 is an entry level?..

    • @StitchinHeaven
      @StitchinHeaven  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Liz,
The 770 can be a great entry level machine! It offers a larger throat space than smaller machines which is advantageous for the beginning quilter who likes to have room to work. It can be purchased with or without the embroidery module unlike higher end machines that come priced with a module. It also has lots of great features bundled into a really good price point!

I live in Germany. But it is true that you best get your Bernina from an authorized dealer who offers those masterclasses (sadly I couldn‘t get mine because of Corona). Saving a 100 Euros with those prices isn‘t worth it.
