To be fair the point of Liam Neeson telling that story was to point out how misguided he believes seeking revenge is in real life and that you only destroy yourself by doing so. He then gave an example of how his own demons led him to nearly do something terrible.
This wasn't made clear here. He wasn't recounting something he was proud of but something he was saying he was deeply ashamed of.
It would be better if people were judged on the full facts. If you remove the fact that he was recounting something he nearly did 40 years ago that he regrets, then you are acting ina an appalling way yourself.

just look at the Paul brothers, both confirmed grifters, both with a myriad of controversies following them around at every turn, yet they're still popular, making oodles of money, and seeing no true consequences for their actions, either criminally or socially. all attempts to "cancel" them have failed, and they continue to display no remorse for their behavior and treatment of others. it's just... it's nuts!

It HARMS the trans women by putting them in danger by forcing them into men's spaces. Perverts like the cross-dressing murderer in Rowling's adult novels do not need the permission of bathroom laws to enter the spaces their target victims are in. They're going in anyway.
      2. Working against care for trans youth is doing harm. Nobody is giving hormone replacement therapy to children who don't medically need it. Nobody is performing top or bottom surgery on minors who aren't in need to reconstruction for non-trans related reasons. None of this scary rushing babies into life-altering surgeries stuff is happening. What they're doing for trans youth is hitting pause on puberty, which we do for cis kids with precocious puberty all the time quite safely, so that they can go through the puberty that's right for them and need to make fewer surgical changes when they're adults who have been living as their self-identified gender for years.

I had a friend and coworker named Tim around 2008-2012ish who was very fit and quite good-looking. One day, he was grumbling about his girlfriend letting an old friend (guy) stay at her place while he was in town (Gainesville, FL).

I was born in 1964 and met my only transwoman, as far as I know at a cousins wedding when I was about 14, because I can remember about a conversation about the bridegrooms mother picking her out because apparently she may of had an adams apple. Many years later I saw her at another cousins wedding and kissed her goodbye because we had a very nice conversation. Accept people for who they are, you do not have to sleep with them because I am sure the majority of them would say fine enough. Anyone who says different is most likely trying to manipulate you and trying to hide the damage they or their donors are doing too you.

the first trans person I met was an American singer called Jayne County with her band The Electric Chairs. Back in the 70's I was a hardcore punk frequenting clubs in Liverpool and Manchester. I'd met Jayne when she was Wayne after a gig, he was a super nice chatty bloke. I got talking to Jayne after a gig in Liverpool the following year and was trying to get my head around the whole transsexual thing but Jayne put it in simple terms, she said "imagine having size nine feet but having to wear size seven shoes all day, no matter what you do those shoes don't fit and it hurts, well right now my shoes finally fit". in it's own way it was quite a profound moment and It's something that has stuck with me over the years. I don't judge people, we all have a right to be comfortable in our own skin and if peoples life choices do not physically impact on me it's none of my business.

Here's the thing about Rowling. She's a feminist. As a man, I can completely understand a woman who is extremely invested in women's rights and who has the entire history of women's struggles in mind, not being ok with a trans person claiming everything that goes with being a woman. A person born a man who transitions to female gender is simply not a part of the group who Rowling is an advocate of in light of the thousands of years of women being treated as less than a man. Can people not see that a man transitioning into a woman and then saying "I am a woman, feminists must acknowledge me and fight for my rights too" would be negatively viewed by a Women's Activist? Trans rights are also a thing, and they have their own long battles with discrimination, but it is not the same battle.

JK Rowling has said things extremely controversial. Not only on Twitter. I don't even use Twitter. She's said them in writing in newspapers, magazines, AND Twitter. She has claimed that trans people are a danger to women, which they are not, factually. She has said trans people are trying to turn other trans. They are not. She has said that kids can be tricked into thinking they are trans. They can't. SHe has said that common trans treatment is potentially harmful to kids. It has been demonstrated to be helpful with few risks. She has claimed that kids are more likely to commit suicide after gender affirming care when the opposite has been repeatedly demonstrated scientifically. She has lied about the effects of estrogen and testosterone. She has lied about trans athletes. And she has supported a woman who called to lynch all trans women. Seriously. She has called trans people animals and monsters and suggested they are faking just to get into women's restrooms and changing rooms. She has spent money to block legislation or to get legislation passed, which is a hell of a lot more important. She has gotten people fired. She does that when people say anything negative about her. If you didn't know, now you do. So don't defend her bullshit anymore.

thank you for this. the "it was a different time" type argument and similar references to the past being "the worst", as Simon often says, really drives me up the wall. trans people have always existed, it's not like this is some new world thing she's experiencing for the first time as an elderly crone who's too stubborn to change and too set in her ways. there are plenty of trans people who are HER AGE, or even older! and plenty of people her age who are at least tolerant enough to say "live and let live", or even fully allying themselves with queer people and actively participating in efforts to aid them. it's well past time to excuse ignorance and indeed full blown bigotry with "oh she's a product of her time". she has enormous power and influence she could be using for the greater good, she lives in the modern age where information is instantly at her fingertips, she absolutely able to speak with trans people and open her mind to experiences which are unlike her own, but she's very much choosing not to do any of things things. CHOOSING to harm those people, some of whom were once her adoring readers and fans - many in fact! it's despicable, dare i say evil, and there's no justifying it. both of my grandmothers were fully supportive of myself and my trans brother right from the moment they learned about such concepts, one going so far as to declare that my brother was her "favorite grandson". so if an 80yo woman who grew up far removed from queer culture can still wrap her mind around the concept and embrace it lovingly, what excuse does Rowling have, when she has more access to queer culture than any of our forbearers could even dream of?
