      Actually monarchy brings in more money in Compared what they take out. Like tourism Specially with Asians and the Americans those 2 demographics love the monarchy. As a huge history buff when the monarchy do they're ceremony they are doing real history in real time not just a historic reenactment I find that very cool. The line for king and country it sounds awesome. if we don't have a monarchy that line will be for Britain it just won't have a same ring to it. That is my opinion why we should keep a monarchy if you disagree with me that's fine. The monarchy is just part of British culture. Reason I think like that is imagine the French still have a monarchy French culture will be way more interesting do you think? Sorry if my comment goes on for a bit longer I am just very passionate about it. Have a good day.

    I knew a woman from Ireland who had a run-in with customs when she was visiting New York. When the agent asked what she was in the US for, she answered that she was "there for the craic". @Karras353 Рік тому +4

      It’s not like filter coffee is even inherently bad. I mean, it’s basically just an automated pour over and results will vary by quality of coffee and machine. I think it’s just that for a lot of people it conjures images of diner coffee or similar, where it started bad and then was left on a hot plate until the only remaining flavours are ash and regret.
      It was also weird to hear at attempt to distinguish between espresso and third wave specialty coffee. As if the latter is not just people being pickier about what beans they use for the former (or other brewing method of choice). I suspect there is an element of erroneously conflating “specialty” with light roast. But a darker roasted specialty coffee definitely tastes like “coffee” if that is the preferred option.

    • @Volyren
      @Volyren Рік тому +3

      Just grind your beans right before you brew. Best drip-coffee ever. Get nice, oily beans. Columbian, or Brazillian peaberry. Deep flavor, low bitterness/acid.
      As for instant.... crystals are blegh. Get folgers fast-breaks or starbucks VIA. Those are micro-grinds.
      Not freeze dried coffee, but real coffee ground so fine it dissolves in water.
      They have one benefit not available with *any* other coffee style.
      You can have fresh-brewed coffee ice cream.
      Just mix your microgrind with a spoon of sugar, and add a couple spoons of hot water, to make a syrup.
      Then put it in a milkshake, or blend it into ice cream.
      Its not a cup of coffee, so it doesn't water the cream down and make it too icy. And its not stale, cold coffee, which makes your ice cream taste of pencil-lead. Its fresh-brewed.
      It makes an ice cream or milkshake that tastes exactly like a coffee shop smells.
      If any of you remember the starbucks ice cream pints they sold in stores that were better than any coffee ice cream you'd ever had, this is what they did to get it so coffee-ey.

    We call cloudy apple juice cider in the US because of prohibition. Before that we did the same thing as you, cloudy apple juice was just that and hard cider was just cider. if I remember correctly, it was a marketing ploy to change the name of cloudy apple juice to cider and once prohibition was lifted actual cider became known as "hard cider"

    • @omgandwtf1
      @omgandwtf1 Рік тому +5

      Honestly cider does sound much better than cloudy apple juice. The latter is not a particularly appetizing name. Adding cloudy to any liquid makes it seem impure or dirty. Also cloudy itself generally has a negative connotation. And Adding hard as a descriptor is readily understandable, adds some macho/adult appeal.

    • @Nylak-Otter
      @Nylak-Otter Рік тому +2

      I also have never drank any plain cloudy apple juice; it's usually mashed and unfiltered and not from concentrate, then stored in big glass jugs and boiled with packets of spices for mulling; it's just not allowed to ferment.
      Since I'm unable to drink alcohol, I (along with the little 'uns) appreciate fall cider very much so I can feel included.
      "Hard" is included because it's no longer a "soft drink" (like a soda pop or beer with a very low volume of alcohol) when a certain amount of alcohol is involved. Hard vs. soft literally just means alcoholic vs. nonalcoholic.
      Hard cider also has a TON of sugar added so it can ferment into alcoholic carbohydrates, whereas soft cider is just juice and apple mash with seasonal spices and is much more palatable.

    Fun fact I used to sell coffee machines. The nespresso machines are real coffee that brews inside the aluminum pod which is why it tastes richer. Keurig (or pod machines) typically contain some form of instant or semi instant coffee. That’s why nespresso is better than keurig. I will say a proper espresso machine is better than a nespresso machine and a proper coffee pot is far superior than a keurig. Personally I have a nespresso, a keurig and a coffee pot, but when I have spare time the French press or the cold brew pot is my go to. Significantly cheaper than nespresso or a proper pot as well.

The pod machines should be banned, to be honest, for how much plastic waste they produce. People need to stop being so goddamned lazy. Double the space taken up, money wasted, because it’s…too hard to figure out how to measure? If you can’t figure out how to measure grounds and water, that’s a reflection of your critical thinking skills, not an indication that coffee-drinkers should be buying pod machines. What you need to understand about the Second Amendment is that it is the means for the preservation of the First Amendment. Our basic protections, from the government, are outlined in the First Amendment, and then the Second is how we insist upon those protections, from the government. It exists precisely so that we can tell the federal government no. And insist upon that no. It is the means for guaranteeing the ability to overthrow the government if that need should arise. It's not about self-defense or hunting. It's precisely about protecting your liberties from the entity which can take them away the most easily. The right to bear arms is the most fundamental basis for the defense of liberty.

    Ironically, Nespresso is looked down on here in the Ststaes. Everywhere I've ever lived in the US considers it as bad a freeze dried coffee instant coffee.
    I have a grinder, a french press, and an industrial Keurig machine. I can use the press or grind and use the Keurig in mesh cups. While I do not need actual espresso with steamed skim milk and all, this works well for me and it is strong and tastes as good as the best coffees you can buy on the go.

    When i went to europe i was slightly thrown off by the charge for a plastic bag in Wales but the person at the counter was nice about explaining it probably having dealt with tourists a ton of times. I had no issues with the extra few pence to get the bag, I think it's a good idea to help discourage the plastic bags use and I also knew i was going to continue to stuff that bag full of random crap as i was on my trip, to the point it was almost torn/broken by the time i got home.

      They add a 5 cent tax for bags here and they only have paper bags unless it's for produce or meat for some reason in which case those are free. Honestly I'd rather still have plastic bags as an option even if I had to pay like 25 cents per bag, paper bags are nearly impossible to carry a significant number of at a time whereas with plastic I can fit as many as I can physically lift. Also paper bags rip much more easily due to heavy things. Sure you can bring a reusable bag but that requires planning and remembering to bring them or if you keep them in your car remembering to put them there after you unpack your groceries and frankly that's all far more effort than I can be bothered with.

    Absolutely FUCK enterprise car rental. I was driving across states and a bird of some sort flew up from the road and hit my car windshield. I contacted them and they sent a tow truck to come pick up the car. Everything was fine until they left me in the middle of nowhere at a gas station for literally a 8+ hours. entire time I am calling them and explained what was going on to 4 different people. Escalated up the chain for them to get me a taxi to bring me to a HOTEL. Not even another enterprise to get another car. Then I had to pay out of pocket for the hotel that THEY basically forced me to get for the night. Then they refused to refund the hotel payment for the night. The next day I had to walk 7 miles to the enterprise chain in the area. I could not afford an uber now that I spent all extra funds on the hotel room for the night. I get to the enterprise and they have a car for me there, everything went smooth the people were friendly. THIS ISNT EVEN THE END. They ended up sending me a bill for 600$ of damage to the car which I had the insurance coverage. I argued and eventually had to pay the $600. After they stranded me in the middle of nowhere for 8+ hours and forced me to pay for a hotel. Then on top charged me full price for the damages. I'm sure I am missing some small details here.

    WRT the cards: it's because we do one thing that Europe doesn't: our debit cards have a credit card backing on them so we can use them online and whatnot. You don't need to have a credit card in the US to function. That particular feature is hit or miss outside the US. And all of our cards have touchless/RFID/chips these days.

    A word to the wise: on an airplane in flight, both the coffee & the tea are made with tap water, which comes from the airplane's water tanks. If you want coffee, buy it in the terminal; if you need a caffeine boost during the flight, ask for a Coke or Pepsi. Not drinking tap water on flights is a well-documented no-no.

    The reason credit cards still have a magnetic strip is generally incase the chip breaks. People with particular habits you sometimes refer to ❄️ will damage the chip from time to time rendering the chip useless, it allows payments to still be made until a replacement card arrives. Handily it’s a habit a lot of people in the banking industry seem fond of 😂

    I made friends with some Irish folks on Cape Cod. 2 Brothers and a sister. One day I tell one of the brothers that I was going to a convenience store and he asks me to pick him up a 'pack of fags'. This was the late 90s and these are the first people from that area that I have hung out with since I was a little kid. My response was a mixture of confusion and thinking he might be talking shit or something. His brother came to our rescue right quick, telling me that he had meant cigarettes. Partied my ass off that summer on the Cape (as one does when one spends the summer there). A lot of drinking with that family. (the three of them were there all summer, a working vacation... I think they ended up staying in the area for awhile after that as well. good people)

    I will say this about the card being taken from you thing. I work in computer security and let me tell you that it's almost as easy to steal your card information from a machine at the table as it is to just copy it down behind your back. There are multiple legally available options to either add to the card reader itself, that will take you information or, and to me more scary, that can read that information wirelessly from somewhere close by. I personally am scared more of someone I don't know stealing my information while a wireless device is running my card, than I am someone at the restaurant making a poor attempt at identity theft. If it's a worker at the restaurant, it's easy to track down. If it's a stranger, than figuring out who stole your information is much harder. In addition to that, keep in mind that laws and policies regarding this in the US are much different than in Europe. I know that my bank will automatically refund any disputed charge while there is an investigation underway. They will also replace the card in question at no charge. I have been unfortunate enough to have my card information stolen before and outside of a slight bit of fear, a wait for a new card to be sent and a phone call, I was out nothing in the end.
