I love this episode because trips are not always about nature while overlanding. It's also about experiencing the culture that your in. How fun to ride donkies to a bar in South Africa. Something that will always be one of the best stories
So glad Doc is ok, better safe than sorry. Beautiful episode. Thank you guys. Ps. One thing I miss from the Nordic trip, is all the interaction with the people and culture. So far, it's been my favorite to match.
So glad he is ok, this shows something can happen anytime and being prepared and work as a team is vital. I felt bad when he apologized that he is sick.
Zamalek (Black Label) and tick fever. Donkeys over the Drakensberg. Waterfalls and Basotho culture. Epic adventures with a band of brothers. Realeboga.
I lost a friend to Meningitis years ago. She was a student doctor. Still haunts us to this day. Don't take any chances. You can always come back to visit a place. You can't replace a life. Great job guys.
Thanks for sharing all of this process including the wrench thrown in your plans for that epic camping spot with that health scare. I think it's important for people to see that side of it. Life in general doesn't always go as planned, no matter your platform/audience - especially these days. Anyhow another great show!
There is that thing that clicks Joy seeing you guys getting to enjoy nd experience our continent surprise... And the only thing I'm always thinking is this is my home and I wouldn't exchange living in it for any other
This is probably one of the best episodes! It has, in my opinion, every aspect of what overlanding is. Thankfully the Doc was okay. But having to handle the emergency as a team really highlights what overlanding is. More than just fancy equipment and driving to a place (which seems to be what the stereotype is). It's about enjoy friends in the outdoors, seeing things you wouldnt typically see and working together for a common cause.
What a place, and what a stunning view! My acrophobia kicked in really quick, though, with those cliff shots. But yes, another great episode, and it was great to see the team work together to get Dr. John to safety. Teamwork all the way!
It’s a good thing that with such a small country we are getting two episodes, I was really feeling disappointed that the doctor got sick and thought Lesotho episode is over but in my head I was like Go to Bloem they got good doctors there. I have been watching your content all this years, and I didn’t know someday you will come to Lesotho. Got surprised some day when I was passing through the border and I saw your sticker on the window. That’s when I knew that you were in the country. Thank you so much for visiting us Lesotho is such a beautiful country.
Have stayed at Semonkong twice, camped and in a rondavel. The drive back to SA via the Sani Pass is just stunning staying at Sani Pass backpackers at the top of Sani Pass.
Glad you guys were in our area. Just a note about Baboons pass... Not the easiest of passes. Doing it in solid front axle vehicles like Land Rover Defender and Landcruise 70 series is difficult. Doing it in your larger (than our ordinary IFS) vehicles might be a real challenge.
I was praying while watching it's not malaria. I had it 5 times in my life, it ends quickly but it changes the taste of the food for weeks after recovery. It's medicine is even scarier than the illness 😔 what a depressing thing. Get well soon Bro.. I am Muslim but in this case I would give him a mix of Jin and tonic water. Or any hard liquor with tonic. It helps take away the bitterness of malaria from the mouth.
I feel like this is my favorite episode of Return To Africa. The music for this episode was so GOOD!!! And the cinematography was on point. I'm grateful to see Dr. Jon doing better. Keep up the amazing work.
For me African tick bite fever was worse and took way longer to get over than promptly treated malaria. Lasted a lot longer and felt fatigued for a long time after .
What happened to the notification button for this episode? Just curious! Also, I liked the outro music you chose for episode 2! It really fits on what you guys are doing! I find it a cool sound to inspire others on traveling everywhere including Africa! How are you guys doing right now? May God bless you all and have a safe journey!
Man! That first campsite is breathtaking, but I can't imagine driving up to the edge of that drop at night. Butterflies even just watching the video. Glad to see Doc is gonna be OK. I think Troy will make a good grandmother some day 🙂 I really hate to hear those words "join us for the conclusion". Can't you guys make an epic series, like maybe 12 episodes? You could compete with Kevin Costner and "Horizon" that way.
Wonderful episode! If you ever go back to Sweden sometime, try the northwestern Route, from the wilderness road to kvikkjokk, ritsem, Abisko etc. Its a place like no other. Only place in Europe that can compare to the mountainous regions of alaska. There are Deltas, Tundras, mountains, rivers and lakes. If its a 2nd full Scandinavian overlanding trip then the border to Norway is in Abisko which will be at the end of that route. I did it myself this summer and I HIGHLY recommend it.
It was a great watch. Good to see you fishing, it was a bit disappointing on your first trip not to see mention fishing while being next to good looking water. Atleast you did it now, but I would say I would have loved to see you rather catching fish that would be indemic to tje places you travel toaddmore to descovering the unknown , yellowfish being a great example. But great video, thanks for making it!
Doc should know it is not advisable to drink beer when you have tick fever and taking antibiotics. Tick fever is not a joke but can be fatal. Complications can include encephalitis, pneumonia and damage to the brain and heart.

Completely agree!
We don't ride donkeys to a bar in South Africa that was Lesotho a different country from South Africa.
Lesotho is a hidden natural gem, rich in minerals that contribute significantly to South Africa 🇿🇦 🇱🇸
Thank you guys for taking Lesotho to the world.. appreciated.. We love you in the mountain kingdom..
I love Troy. What a great personality and sense of humor. He needs to be on more trips.
Agreed!
Magical Africa 🌍
Great outcome at the end.......good discussions made.
Can't believe this adventure is almost done.....
Thanks for the share 🇿🇦🤙👍

My favorite episode of the season!! 🎉

It was a bit spicy!

The best episode..the best decisions ❤
Thank you!
wow, Lesotho is beautiful. kinda embarrassed, i've never heard of this country before :)
It's surrounded by South Africa
We hadn’t either until recently. It’s such a cool place!
Quickly running out of superlatives for southern africa...❤❤❤ hope doc is fully recovered now

I see all africa tour episodes from Bangladesh...
This was awesome 👌
Awsome👏👏👏
Riding donkies to a bar😂🔥..
"Le...wait for it🖐🏿..legendaryyy"

But great video, thanks for making it!
I'd have loved to see you go through the Baboons Pass.
The donkey was epic lol 😂
Getting sick on a trip is never fun.
Being deep offroad makes it even more stressful.
Troy and Doc remind me of Cheech and Chong . Get well soon, hope we laugh more in the next episode
Avid flyfished, thanks
I know how you felt Doc, Ive had tick bite fever 3 times. Not pleasant.
Not fun at all!
I would've liked to see you cross Baboons Pass with your highly modified and equipped vehicles. What ASPW did in a stock LR4.
You guys are still releasing stuff on UA-cam? I thought you guys started some Overland+ channel. Or was that just for the first Africa series?
I believe each new video is released on their private channel first. Then a few days later the video appears on YT.
I have been watching and following you guys, from your day one video. My one request, upload the video, little bit faster .
Had a bit of a technical issue today 👍🏼 Thanks for watching!
@ oh , okay 👍
Oh man. Something about seeing grown men let loose, going fishing and riding donkeys to a bar and grabbing a beer. Ain’t nothing like it.
Tell us how you feel about the castle lager 🍻
Hi guys im a fan of your chanel and stay in bloemfontein if you guys need anything please let me know
😊welcome back guys
BUT BABOONS PASS Ain't a joke.. this is AFRICA
Clay, what is the small camera you were using while fishing?
Doc should know it is not advisable to drink beer when you have tick fever and taking antibiotics. Tick fever is not a joke but can be fatal. Complications can include encephalitis, pneumonia and damage to the brain and heart.
Some “original” Overlanding done.
Does anyone know what make and model of watch Dr Jon wears? 13:50
Why did you not travel with malaria test kits?
why all the blue lines in the dark scenes with the lights? was that done on purpose? it looks horrible
