Will Indians buy a Premium Shirt named ‘Gobindo Kumar’ or ‘Govind Bharat’??
They will happily Flock to Buy something named ‘ Peter France’ or ‘John England’ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿!!
It’s the Truth even if we want to deny it!! 🇮🇳

Remember the clothing brand came in shark tank and their brand name was franch crown.

John Players tbh is a English cigarette brand, which ITC has the naming rights in India. And they build a clothing brand with the same name. Similar to Wills lifestyle

It’s a combination of casteism, colourism and racism. It’s time to change it. Representation is important.

Clothing has a wide purpose... Professional Office Wear, Wedding, Holiday and Casuals, Night wear, etc
The perception that western wear has on casual and professional wear, is unmatched... that perception is much ahead compared to other options... hence, a western looking name and model will be able to sell it much better
Imagine a sherwani carrying a 'Thomas England' as brand name and Mr Benedict Cumberbatch endorsing it. Will it sell better than the ones named in India word and promoted by Ranbir Kapoor?
To beat a western sounding casual/ office wear brand, an Indian sounding casual/ office wear must and must have a very strong story behind it. And if anyone is trying to do that, I'd love to check them out.

I hope we get rid of this colonial baggage. At conscious level, I pretend to say my skin colour doesn't matter. But deep inside there are still some insecurities. I wish I could undo that. Trying some stuff, let's see if that works.

Its not colonial baggage, look at China, Japan, Malaysia etc. Pale skinned = wealthy/upper class because darker skilled meant that they were burnt by working in the fields all day doing manual labour. That is why you see many asians carrying around a parasol in sunny weather while white people are trying to get a tan. Think about that for a minute, white people try to look darker (suntan) and asians try to look lighter.

As the popular saying ' Be a Roman in Rome'...more often the diversity of the looks, complexion, attitudes may not very well produce the same as a Roman, but with customized efforts can outshine any environment( even Roman empire😂)

I think an average consumer thinks Indian brands are not competitive , So marketers cash on this bias by showcasing examples of choices. The other side of it is average Indian doesn't have a fit of a mannequin/ foreigners given the food choices etc. So it's a double edge sword imagine a 6' 3"fit and 5'8". Example HRX , is an Indian Brand with fitness , street fashion as the concept. Has a mixed story.
