Stop worrying about comparing rugby to NFL. It’s your channel, you can say whatever you like. NFL is your frame of reference, it’s understandable that you’d make comparisons. Looking forward to more rugby reactions, and I’m happy to see you enjoying this great sport!
Agree, also ur name gets the rugby nod of approval!
second this!
Also not the first person I've heard compare Eben to Gronk!
Ebens done so much for our team. Achieving about 107 caps for the Bokke is immense but I feel we need to rest him sometimes. How can he put in a 100% all the time💚💛🔥🇿🇦
Eben's height is 2,03m which is about 6ft 8in, weighs in just under 120 kgs which is just over 260 lbs. He benchpresses 175 kgs (385 lbs) and accelerates to 40m in 5.11 secs reaching 28 kmph (17.4 mph) - Usain Bolt does this in 4.64 secs
one inch is 2.54 cm. so you have to divide 203 by 2.54 to get the inches and then by 12 to get the feet.
Bolt does not want to be taken by this man....
100% South African.
Spot on!
I love Bolt!!! And Eben Etzebeth!! I love what they bring to their respective sport.
There are three things Eben loves, God, his fiancee and a fight
Agreed. Just like his uncles. Don't mess with that man....
Got married recently. Will he mellow?😂
😂😂😂
I think thw latter is his favourite.
That is so true
The idea in Rugby Football was that you could take a classroom of 30 boys divide them into two teams of 15 and there would be a position for every shape and size. The three short beefy guys form the front row in the set scrum. The two tall lanky guys (Eban) are the receivers in the lineout. The smallest guy is usually the Scrum Half (no 9) who plays a role similar to a Quarter Back.
Eben is a rock of a man, also has a good heart which is why we love him. We HAVE to mention the late great new zealander Jona Lomu here. Not only huge but light on his feet.in the 95 world cup it would take 4 springboks to slow him down. Also had a heart of gold
For Eben, no one has ever been able to take him to ground solo. The only people that might be able to would be players in his own team.
You should see “bakkies Botha” the original “enforcer”… love your stuff!
You mean bulle bakkies botha, because that is what he was. Matfield played the same position just as well, but was never intensionally mean.
The terrible twin himself😂
You need to checkout Cheslin Kolbe, he is also a South African rugby player. One of the greatest steppers ever
I agree. Genius.
He's wonderful to watch. You'll enjoy reacting to him.
NFL is what you know and enjoy, no need to apologize for references made, Thank you for showing an interest in a game that we as South Africans are passionate about. Yes Eben is a beast on the field, but the complete opposite off the field.
Eben is fantastic. Surprisingly for his size his aggression is almost always very controlled. Hardly ever been sanctioned for off the ball play. He just does the job. He is unnaturally big, he looks tall amongst rugby players but against the general public he is massive, not only in height but in physique- look at that photo with him and Conner MxGregor.
Yeah, I heard he’s never been red carded, maybe a couple of yellow cards?
Which means he must know the game well, and how to play without going overboard.
He is definitely 6ft8. He is from my country 🇿🇦 We have a lot his height and weight.
Brick wall with legs
Rugby also has different sizes and skills needed between the positions
1 & 3 heaviest
2 strong/heavy
4&5 tallest
6,7,8 all round great physicallity
9 shortest usually
10 kicking ability
12 &13 strong & playmakers
11 & 14 speedsters
15 speed, high balls, last man in defence
One of the best bokkes ever. Such a hard player. In my dream team as vc and number 4. Couldn't not have him in my team.
On what you said about size. Positions in rugby also needs certain shapes and size, altough sometimes you get the odd one that makes it happen. Rugby is a sport for ALL shapes and sizes.
A good example of such an anomaly is Mike Phillips of Wales being a supersized scrum-half.
whats what i loved about rugby in school, everyone could get invilved and have fun
You done well but the best ever clip of Eben was a month ago when South Africa played Australia. The brawl was so intense, the ref backed down, was way above his pay grade to mess with Eben.
Love it 😂that's our boys
Don't apologize for making reference to American football. We don't mind. Just glad for your interest in rugby. Greetings from a female rugby lover/fanatic
"The Greatest Rugby ENFORCER Of All Time?" No, that would be Bakkies Botha (another South African player)
I would rather say Eben is the last of the great Enforcers
He just did it again with another Rugby World Cup for 🇿🇦
Eben would bash everyone in the NFL, facts. Eben is 275 pounds, 6.7, and has endurance. NFL is a stop start affair. Rugby goes on and on! Nice vid!
Hes actually a very nice person. But when he's in the mode he will roll you.
There's been one French absolute monster: Sébastien Chabal aka the Caveman.
The smiling is a taunt gesture. We are a different breed here in saffa. If you want to see a great lock video like this, watch Bakkies Botha.
One of the great England players and Captain of the national rugby team was a guy name Martin Johnson. He lived int he next village to me and was 6' 7" tall and was huge weighing over 260 pounds (muscle is lightre than fat!), when he walked, into the village pub he had to bend slightly and filled the doorway, it was just as it the sun had become eclipsed. He was a hard player on the field but a lovely man off it. He was broader than the South African subject ot this film.
Comparing him to Gronk is probably spot on. Both similar and both had a huge impact on their respective games.
No 1-8 are the forwards you see at scrum time. They are typically the big boys with 4&5, the locks usually the tallest and 5-8(loose forwards), the more athletic units(typically). 9-15 are backline players and they are the fast boys that typically do most of the finishing off a platform created by forwards (especially in South African rugby). Your bigger backs are usually the centres(12&13), small scrumhalf at 9, The fastest players are usually the wings at 11&14, the full back at 15 needs to be fast, but is also the last line of defense needing to make 1 on 1 tackles and have a good kicking foot. The flyhalf(10) is like the quarterback in a way as they usually dictate where the phase of play will be going by running, kicking or passing the ball. On attack the forwards and backs are strategically arrange, no set rule. When you are defending, you try and arrange your defense to match up with what is coming at them and to overturn the ball. Glad you are enjoying the game. Another big SA enforcer was Bakkies Botha, Sebastian Shabal from France was also a unit. Look at some games of Samoa at the World cup, bloody big hits, although often illegal or late.
Hi, I am Scott from South Africa, was watching a few of your videos and yes you are quite right stating that there are different sizes for different positions eg. your back line which is your running guys and your forwards which do the donkey work as they call it , your forwards are larger , and more powerful and your back line is more running, not mean that they are not powerful but as you say there are different positions for every guy, hard to explain all on a message, but easy to see on the field your forwards are normally numbered 1 to 8 and back line is 9 to 15 and you all so have 5 substitute incase someone gets hurt or having a bad game , hope that helps a bit , sorry but can't explain well on texting
Thanks for saying his name correctly 😊
LOVE Eben and the Springboks 🇿🇦
2 guys CANNOT take him down 🇿🇦🏉🇿🇦🏉
In Rugby... different positions are also different sizes...eben plays the position of Lock because hes very tall and he is the one that gets picked up when they do a throw in...compared to a left and right wing who are usually alot shorter and smaller but fast and nimble
Listening to an American discussing Rugby is very amusing, he hasn't the faintest idea of what's going in in these clips.
Fowards (position 1,2 and 3 are usually very stocky built and heavy...used in scrummages
Proudly south African, go bokke
Hi Connor..great reaction.
Oh mate now watch a video of Faf de Klerk, 5' 7" and 176 pounds. He's Eben's teammate on the Springboks and just a joy to watch (as long as he's not playing the All Blacks!).
Eben is 2.03 meters tall. 6.66 feet for the Murcans.
That hit he did in the back of the argentinian guys head was because the dude actually bit his arm
He wrestled in his youth something to witness
Some-one should do a compilation of the small referees talking up to the big players. Hey you up there, don't hit me, but I have to punish you for foul play. 😂
Look up (Bakkies Botha) the original "enforcer" of the springboks
This is why the springboks will win the rugby world cup so brutal
Hi. You should do Pierre Spies. He is a old school legend. Now thats a beast...
No man Spies had all the physical attributes but I always felt he didn't give it 100% after the blood clots. Which us understandable but ja, he could have been so much more. His fitness test results were unnatural. Faster, stronger, could jump higher than anyone else but didn't play to rhat potential
Definitely could have been more with all that abilities...
Gronk is a fair comparison in terms of size & body type. He was TB12 go to and whenever he needed to pull a rabbit out of hat, Gronk could be relied on to get downfield shake his marker and make the clutch catch. In rugby , Etzebeth role would be primarily to sack Tb12 failing which he'd need to prevent 87 from completing the play without conceding a PI. (Defense) .. on offensive plays (think iron-man football) he'd have the responsibility of the RB to break through the line of scrimmage. (In a vague comparison)
Hope this helps
What are you going on about?
The difference between American football and rugby is that rugby is a man's game , no protection or pads all over the body . Only joking , great videos, good luck to you and keep them coming .
His a South African Rugby Player. Play rugby at various RUGBY clubs.
Rugby and NFL are completely different. We also don’t wear padding or helmets 🇿🇦💥
he,s not aggressive just physical
He is the smallest of his brothers.
Rugby is an aggressive game.
I never saw the hit to Bismarck😂😂 Elizabedi is built different😂
Eben and Schall burger are the most feard in the world the beast
He used to be a security dude at clubs I think.
This guy seems to be tall but has some muscle behind him too. Jonah Lomu was a beast and unstoppable but this guy seems too slim to have the effect that he has
An "enfofcer' is a high impact player - doing the super hard work as you can see in this clkp. Lets just say he is the Abrahams Tank in the battle😂
These clips are a bit old, as I wanted to comment on you mentioning how Eben is tall but not as like built etc, if you check how he is now, he is massive, not just tall! He is a machine!
Forwards and backs . Forwards are big brutes and backs are either skillfull or fast
Bakkies Botha
different era
@@karlosdeevs yes, but a thug. Dirtier than Etzibeth. Not proud of that at all. However as there are 15 positions in a team there always has to be one hard man.
@@struesbob7493 yh, i get that. Maybz Bakkies is the uncontested enforcer. But i feel the difference between then and today was that Bakkies was an enforcer amongst others, whilst Eben is literally almost on his own in the department..
Please watch the rugby world cup in September.
you should check out bakkies botha and victor mayfield...
Matfield.
Should really watch some rugby , 1,2,3 are the heavy set immensely strong front row and battering rams , Eben is 4 sort of similar to 5 which lock the front row in the scrum from a 2nd row, make line out jumps , then there are 3 loose forwards at 6,7,8 , these are big but fast heavy players after that 12,13 are centres also tend toward larger men but more speed and tackle ability , 9 and 10 are called the switch (scrum half and fly half ) nearest equivalent is a quarterback , sort of a play decider both taking an equal share of decisions in most teams , 11 and 14 are wings very fast runners .
The only way to learn what is what in the game is to watch , The eagles (USA) have a side they Qualified both last time and this upcoming (2023) world cup . The main difference between gridiron and rugby is no time outs , 23 players only , 15 on the field at any time ( unless they are sin binned an then the team goes down a player for 10 minutes or the rest of the game), players going off are not allowed back on unless there is a blood related injury or a head injury . Game is 80 minutes with a half time at 40 , you will notice a degree of respect between the thuggish players and the referee , his decision is final .
So that said in this video when Eben routinely knocks down a front row in a tackle he is hard .He is also a 80 minute player ( sometimes) , which means he is fit . Would suggest trying a look at rugby championship , this is where the big teams of rugby meet up ( South African , New Zealand , Australia and Argentina ) or the old Rugby world cup games from 2019 ( or the older ones ) sometimes even 6 nations games , before my northern hemisphere fellow fans get sensitive about big teams remember how many world cups are held by teams in the Rugby championship and how many are held by teams in the Six nations ( 9 world cups one every 4 years , 8 held by RC teams 1 by a 6Nations team ) ( Till next year , looking at France and Ireland )
The previous body tipes for rugby changed. Huge players became more mobile and faster. Allround tipe of thing. Big and fast is the best...
rugby world cup this year
I am South African and to be honest Robert Gronkowski is the perfect man to compare him with. I know because I play alot of Madden hahaha
yeah he gives me gronkowski vibes as well!! if had to compare. South African here btw
You’re right. He is like a male version of Ron Gronkowski.
Enforcer is not an official position. But essentially it is the hard man, the player that put in hard hits and go to the dark places. Gronkis is a good comparison in the NFL.
If you want to see a REAL Beast check out Tendai "the Beast" Mtarawira , he is something else but retired 3 years ago
Check out Faff... he is tiny comparatively
One of my all-time fav players from home... Deff had alot of teachings from the hard knock Mr BAKKIES BOTHA... Dont funk with these men.. its not just about the size of the man... You cant teach aggression.
Two different sports. They had to make dumbells for him as those on the market wasn't big enough
2, 03m = 203 divide by 2.54 divide by 12 = 6ft66
In Rugby, people are very much different sizes depending on position
you can copare NFL mate !! the sports have similarities . many NFL convert to union well . just VERY complex rules in what seems mayhem @Mc
Check out Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha as well if you please both South African Springboks as well. Matfield is also in the top10 best lock forwards of all time along with Eben. Bakkies is also just a super aggressive and brilliant player.
Surprisingly he has only been yellow carded twice in his career - once in Super Rugby and once in test rugby
Check RSA forward no gum gaurds beast
Ever heard of Bakkies Botha? 😂
He is a safe space baby he would mot plat 5 min in the early 90s game where you were slowed to put the boot to a player that held the ball on ground. Rugby light pretends to be tough but the truth is it is closer to touch rugby than 80' and 90s game were real men played the game
Do you know what an enforcer is now?
Positions 1,2,3 Big fat guys (the props and hooker all them about 6 ft 3 and and like 300 pounds), 4 & 5 (the Locks, the tall guys, 6 foot 8 to 7 foot), the flankers and 8th Man (big guys like the locks, but they are normally in the 6 ft 5 range and their job is to steal the ball in rucks). The backs varies a lot though, so I can't comment on their size. All off them are supposed to know how to kick though.
They play with no protective gear
Reach out, I can teach you all you need to know about the sport✨
That is one South African who eats pap with boerewors💪💪😤😤
Etzebeth would have fit right in with the old school Oakland Raiders.
He reminds me a bit of Ted the Stork Hendricks only he's a hundred times better.
John Matuszak also, but he's a zillion times more athletic.
You have not met Bakkies yet ,man
Eben the sicario of rugby....😊
We dont know Grant Gofsky or whatever u said lol. We know rugby, and maybe some basketball but not grid iron/American football lol.
Gronkowski no way man think back to the Raiders of the 80s or far worse the Steelers of the 70s. Then you can compare him with football he is that scary.
Our players do the most of 80 minutes.
American football is inspired by rugby so there will be a lot of comparisons.
Yank football is a child's play sport next to the real game that based American football on.
Little brief description of rugby for those who dont know.
The goal of rugby is get over the try-line where you have to physically place the ball on the ground which is then followed up by a place kick (conversion), like your American Football. The other way to get points is if the opponent violates any rules that warrant a 'penalty', where we can go for another 'place kick' (or a scrum or lineout kick) which awards 3 points as opposed to a try which is 5, followed up the conversion attempt, awarding 2 points. Tries and conversion go hand in hand but you can miss the latter, only resulting in a 5 point gain, awarded from a try and not a total of 7.
Basic Info:
1. Pass the ball straight or backwards - forward is well forward and not allowed.
2. Can kick the ball from hand to gain yards into enemy territory which is a gamble as you will either lose possession or reclaim it from the kick - this is used when you cant get through a defensive line or their line and or fullback as pushed up leaving space for a kick and run to retake and make ground.
3. That thing of the players being bent down, bound together, is a 'scrum', awarded from foul play, it gives the attackers a chance to execute a set piece or move, very much like in American Football, its like your hucks, just not for every single play as only arises from foul play. The opponents can however overpower the attackers scrum and push them backwards to gain the ball back using their feet. A scrum is used to open the playing field up as less players are roaming or to gain yards close to the try-line or to result in a penalty from applying too much pressure in the initial hit, causing the opponents to collapse the scrum for example which is not allowed.
4. When players are tackled, the ball carrier needs to release the ball back into play once on the ground (why you see many of them stretch their arms out to place the ball back on their side to be picked up), and this is where the opponents pile in as they are going to try rip the ball out of your hands (theres more to it but thats the basic principle), which will result in you either giving it away or holding onto it (which is a penalty as you must not stop the ball from being played in essence), this is why the teammates pile in once someone is tackled to 'clear' and prevent the opponents from getting over the ball and causing a penalty. Teammates clearing these 'rucks' also allows the ball to become readily available for faster movement and plays.
5. When the ball is kicked out (there are other things like where the kick took place, did it bounce beforehand but thats for another time), this is a 'line-out' where more set moves are executed, like your hucks, so players try move around the line-out to confuse the opponents as the thrower is throwing for a pre-determined distance and height depending on what 'move' they are doing and this is why the opponents try mimic their movement so they can get their jumpers at the same location in the line so they can jump with the attackers to try contest the throw.
6. Player jersey numbers from 1-8 are the 'forwards', these are usually the bigger guys that participate in scrums, ruck clearing, lineouts and general defensive-line bruising, think of them are your 'Guards' in football. Then the numbers 9-15 are the 'backs', think of these are your 'Receivers'.
7. One last way to get points, is by going for drop goals which awards 3 points. This is where you can drop the ball and upon the bounce, follow with a kick and must go in-between the up rights. Perfect example of this for me anyways, would be the retired English legend Jonny Wilkinson.
I think that's the general idea of rugby without diving into the specifics of each areas and the rules.
LETS GO BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE #RWC23
Etzebeth IS AND ARE ALWAYS ALONE!! SCARED OF NO ONE AN 2.07 METERS LONG
React to Evan Roos
Eben is my uncle
He's 6'792... rounded off is 6'8
France 🇫🇷 seems to be good at training South African rugbymen, especially the RC Toulon with Eben Etzebeth and Cheslin Kolbe.
Would argue that although Eben is a good enforcer he is not the best that honour goes to Bakkies Botha another South African
