Hey guys! Just letting you know my latest single "HETERONORMATIVITY" is out now! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/OdoSaDCHvl0/v-deo.html And do come say hi in the comments :) Thank you all so much for your continued support for my music, it's hugely appreciated! 😊 xx
I've seen a few confused comments, so just to clarify: The song starts out with a producer or some other guy in charge talking to a singer/songwriter. The singer is gay, but the producer is telling him to make his songs about girls instead of guys so they can sound straight. He's basically being a big homophobe and telling the singer to stay closeted and/or not write any gay songs so he can appeal to the public, make more money, and not change "the way things have always been". Finally, at the end, the singer tells the producer that he's not gonna change his songs and he's not gonna hide who he is. Then the music kinda combines and it's the singer's lines playing at the same time as the producer's chorus. As far as I can tell, the song is calling out the homophobia in the music industry.
But it does make sense the vast majority of the population is straight and you are more likely to buy music which you can identify with, so it is obvious that the manager advises him to write in a straight perspective. It would be homophobic if you boycott him just because of his song or to blackmail him.
What really pisses me off is “protect the children” like theres kids with gay parents or kids who know theyre gay from a young age, i think i realised at tge age of 10, so please the children are gonna find out at some point so why wait?
Yoywe Ro You do I think you have the confidence to be with anyone you want but for me being gay at 13 is a little harder we should hang out sometime and maybe You can teach me how to have that courage.
I'm not gay, but quite like this song for its meaning. The music industry really is corrupted. art shouldn't be safe, censoring, and made only to sell, yet here we are.
It's not the music industry. It's religious and conservative groups attacking and putting pressure on the entertainment industry. People need to stop demonizing the industry when many of us are actually lgbt being oppressed. Think of your real target
I don't know why so many people thought this was going to be homophobic. The album is called "Not Thinking Straight" and even before it hits the minute mark it's pretty clearly satirical.
Sorenmine Lol, I know, you're right. I just came from here from Nicki Minaj's 'Anaconda' music video, that's all XP And I thought it's hella silly for two guys simply kissing each other to be scandalous when what I just saw there is out and alright. No offence, I don't mean to start an argument.
I think the meaning behind the song is that if he wants to be a celebrity, he has to keep his homosexuality quiet because no one would want to hire him for it
I mean, the first minute of the song says everything "Change all the hims into hers" "don't tell the world that you're- SHHH!" and the fun part is I actually paid attention to these parts and still thought this is a homophobic song as well
I made my homophobic friends listen to this and I can confirm they bopped so hard and then the heard the end and it took them a while to realize what happened Update: they’re dating now
SHSL_Pancake my bestest friend is hetrosexaul and he’s awesome and he supports me on everything and doesn’t ask lots of questions like other people he just uses my pronouns and when some one doesn’t use my pronouns he corrects them
This song reminds me of when my sister came out to me. She said, "hey, I think I might be lesbian." Without thinking, I immediately responded, "I thought you were American." I'm such a clown.
I came home from high school one day. Told my mom I was Lesbian, and I had a girl friend. She grabbed her chest and smiled saying, "Phew! I don't have to worry about you getting pregnant now."
“On the TVs shows” *thinks about Steven universe* *Thinks about she ra* *thinks about kipo* *thinks about the owl house* What a wonderful world we live in
oh god when i saw luz on the paper i screamed like im trans and gay and i never thought that could happen and none of my family knows about it yet and my sister was just sitting there looking at me like i was crazy but i just was so happy
I don't understand how people took this the wrong way until half the song when t says at 0:39 "change all the him into hers, and just don't tell the world that your..." Seriously listen to the song properly and you can get the meaning of the song from the start.
Although I personally agree that the chorus is super catchy haha but I do actually think the catchiness of only the chorus adds more to the overall message of the song. To me, the chorus (albeit catchy) sounds so much like the kind of 'radio-friendly' pop you'd find in other catchy tunes and it just drives home how much of that is so specifically tuned towards just making sure the art sells rather than being something true to the singer. It's also pretty cool I think because it makes only that part of the song stand out compared to the rest and this seems like another layer of commentary to me since it seems to be criticising how only the chorus seems to get remembered in generic pop songs.
Me: Hey mom, can I tell you something? Mom: sure! Me: Well, it's gonna be a bit of a shock... Mom: Don't worry I can take it! Me: ...I'm lesbian Mom: ... Mom: I thought you said this was going to be a shock.
I want to say this. When I first heard this song I got something completely different. What I imagined was a popular singer helping this young gay star rise as he did and giving him the unfortunate truth of the music industry. He wants to help this young man accomplish his dreams but is scared that people will tear him apart because he's gay. And the end is the same guy admitting that they should already know that people know about gay people. The star didn't have the courage to admit to his fans and with the help of this new guy, they are going to turn things around and admit that they are gay, with or without the producers. I feel like that makes the song more relate able and more tragic, yet also triumphant.
@@kittykatplus Well, it's all the same guy singing. He just flips around in talking to the new singer. Starting by telling him he needs to pretend to be straight, then breaking and getting angry because he knows that kids already knows. But thanks for the comment. XD
God, listening to this song that’s basically what I imagined, this song begins leaving you like “hmm” and then it’s all just so triumphant and beautiful
LOL people criticizing the business????? how dare???? our songs are diverse there was that one Katy perry so- yeah my friend probably not gonna happen ;/;
My entire school knows I’m gay and most people in my school just said “We figured” when I came out then everything went back to normal and there was no bullying or criticism just... acceptance, which was the complete opposite reaction I had expected
Honestly, I think this is the first ever song that has ever made me laugh. I laughed mostly because he's obviously telling us how a dude offered him a deal that if he could change his songs so that they don't represent LGBT then he could make millions or some shit like that, but then he goes and writes this song and gets over 2 million views and 73K likes.
Well, from an evolutionary standpoint, we gays are exiting ourselves from the gene pool thereby lessening the maximum potential variation, so... but, eh, I like dick, so, whatever...
"think about the children" if people ACTUALLY thought about the children, they'd put more LGBT+ representation into media. i grew up without any sort of exposure. i'd never even HEARD the word "gay," much less knew what it meant. i forced myself to like boys, even though i just couldnt. i thought i was wrong or broken. it wasn't until a character in a book i read came out as gay after maybe 10 books (it was a long series) that i learnt that LGBT+ exist- i was 12 or 13. it took me a while still to accept i'm gay, because i still thought it must be taboo or bad if i'd never heard of it until then. if children were exposed to LGBT+ in media, there would be a LOT less self-hatred in children.
I fully agree with you I was forcing myself to like boys too until I found out about LGBTQ+ people. Then I was a bit homophobic because of misinfornation and my parents told me it's wrong, but then I kind of accepted that. Then, I was extremely supportive. Later, I had my first actual crush, which was, guess what, a girl. I've never had actual crush before, I only forced myself into liking a boy when I was 11. I thought I like him and that this is love, but actually I just liked his hairstyle smh
@Zyreeme i had never heard of the Ace spectrum until i was 13, and that was through the internet, even then, it was only demi-sexual i heard about, if people talked about it more i would have saved myself a few years of confusion. (Im Ace/Aro btw)
I know it's been 2 months+ since you posted this, so maybe I'm a little late, but I hope things have gotten better for you since then (unlikely, I know, considering how things have been going in general lately, but still).
When I was about six or seven, I had a really close friend. I met her when I was one because of our parents. Anyways, we didn’t live that close together and because of that we went to different schools. Some of my earliest memories are seeing her on the weekends lol. I remember she used to say that if she was a boy we’d get married (didn’t know lesbians were a thing at the time) and that made me really happy at the time. Sadly I moved across an ocean when I was in second grade so I don’t see her as much. We still talk a lot tho
It's so weird, I find myself listening to a lot of music genres I usually don't like, just because the songs are gay themed. Guess lyrics are important...
Creepy Wolf idk, just the way it was worded was kinda weird i guess? like, if all that matters to you is that the lyrics have gay themes in them then your priorities might be a bit messed up?
I don't think the original commenter was trying to fetishize gay people, I think they were trying to say that gay people are so underrepresented in music that they're listening to songs with gay themes just to feel represented or like they can relate to the lyrics even if they don't actually like the song or genre.
Someone's worth as a human is an interesting topic, while to some you might be worth everything and to some people nothing. But in the end if you die there will be someone who will take your place. Meaning that you're worth nothing as a human.
I'm not sure about that. I know I've saved a few lives, directly or indirectly. I've done a lot of good with my life. If I died tomorrow, I'll be just a number, but my mother is alive today because of me, a gay friend I supported (raised christian, realised he was gay, much conflicted) is married to the love of his life now because I helped him accept himself. In a numbers game, sure I'm just another human. But to those I've helped I'm a person of value. More valued by them than I put on myself despite that. But in school I was treated like a freak, accused of sexual assault just to spite me, life was made hell and I frequently questioned whether I was worth the effort of protecting. When enough people tell you you're worthless you start to question whether so many people can be wrong.
Daniel, Dan. This Universe is billions of years old. Stars were born and have died that existed both longer than Earth, and died before Earth even formed. Gas, dust, debris, metals, organic materials, water, everything in the universe was created, one thing after the other, rapidly, slowly, and chaotically. All of that, eventually, after billions of years of chaotic existence, settled down to create you. And me. And everyone else. And we can never be replicated. What we live through, who we interact with, none of it will ever be the same, and none of it can be synthesized. There will always be details lost to the void. Every single human being is unique. Every single human being is special. Every single one has worth. Inherent, true worth, actual value to them, because they are alive. Once you die, your body degrades and you disappear from existence in all but name and image. You are worth it. Absolutely.
My homophobic professor: “homosexuality is a sin!” Everyone: “uhm no?” That smartass: “here sir this song agrees with your visions” me in the back: “oh no..”
In school we were talking about the Holocaust, and we were naming the types of people Hitler would kill. She wrote down the types of people and at the end she put Homosexuals (if you get offended don't worry she didn't mean it in a bad way) and some girl raised her hand and asked "There were gay people back then?" I took in the longest inhale and let out the biggest "BOI"
...you mean that you think the word homosexuals is offensive..? Because if thats what you mean then lemme tell you that its an objective scientific term And if you mean that some might get offended because she wrote homosexuals in the very end then well it happens often that teachers are very hesistant to talk about gays. In Poland there was this book author that was gay and in this school lecture we had one of the boys was literally daydreaming about dating a young male farmer and he spends half of the book looking for a perfect young farmer he would "get along with". Its pretty fucking obvious he was gay af but a lot of teachers still refuses to believe that and that the author was gay. I was a lucky one and the first thing my teacher said bout the author was "he was gay and thus the strong homosexual undertones appear" and holy shit i was screaming (If you wonder what happened with the Boy and the Farmer, well it was chaotic and the last thing the boy says in the book before the main character leaves the place is "MINE HE IS" about the farmer)
Fact: Jesus traveled with twelve DUDES for YEARS. So you cant tell me that they never ever tried a few things out, its the same reason most pirates were gay as well!
"Think about the children" 1: The kids are the gayest 2: Your kid might be gay and you're making one of the hardest things to do (coming out)(trust me, it's hard) even harder than it should've ever been 3: I'm not having a go at the song, I'm having a go at everyone who uses that 'excuse' because it's not even valid
*Kiwi Studios* if you listen carefully at the end, the way that the two parts of the song are layered make its sound like he’s singing “SOME girls like boys and boys like girls” which I think is pretty cool, it’s a subtle difference but it’s there
Jack Black so, the way the music is layered at the end makes it sound like it says “SOME girls like boys” rather than just “girls like boys” so there’s a subtle difference that shows that it isn’t just girls liking boys. Does that make sense?
I think the most powerful line here is: "the kids aready know". It's so true, like, seriously just because some old poeple in charge are uptight doesn't mean what offends them will offend kids. So the argument "think about the children" is letterally the most stupid argument ever. What about all the kids questionning their sexuality who wish they had more content for them? What about all the tolerant straight ones who don't want to be used by homophobic poeple as an excuse?
Blume Shullman That's so, so true and it's so, so sad. I genuinely think that the people in charge of censoring media need to stop and realize that THEY are the only/main people getting offended by the obvious truths. It's getting ridiculous.
Blume Shullman I was listen to songs like this with my little sister (our mom is homophobic) and one of the videos had two boys kissing, she said, "ew, that's gross and wrong." And I asked her why she thought that and she said, "I don't know." Homophobic people always talk about "gays pushing their gayness onto the children" but that's exactly what their doing, and it pisses me off. I get that they think it's wrong, but openly expressing that, saying that being gay is wrong, and telling gay people that they need to stop being themselves, is NOT their place to be saying, they are making people feel bad about being themselves, THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT. (Sorry I just really needed to rant to somebody.)
Blume Shullman yes! I've known my sexuality was not straight since I was 12. And o was so obviously crushing on my girl friends in school since....forever.
My mom always tells me it's okay to be gay. One day, me and my friends were at a movie. There was two guys in front of us that were holding hands. My friend lightly slapped the guys head and said, "Hey scram dirty homo!" Both of the boys starting to tear up a little and ran out of the theater. My friends laughed and giggled. I told them that wasn't very nice and then they told me to get away from them. I met the boys outside the theater. I apologized for my friends behavior and to this day those boys are my best friends. Love you Davis and Ryan 💞
My boyfriend would have fucking flipped because I would have been sobbing in his lap. It would most likely end in us being asked to leave for him screaming and then carrying me out muttering obscenities.
Luckly all my friends are open-minded, because I would freak out and get them to apologize with force. I don't play around when it comes to disrespect (ง •̀_•́)ง
I'm crying, dude like what you did for those guys must have changed their life forever and given them a reason to be happy with themselves. Because I'm not heterosexual I'm happy about what you did to encourage those men omg so inspirational, I can't even rn YOURE AN AMAZING PERSON CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE/ THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY
Julia, if you look a bit closer you'll find nothing in the Bible against gays. Not even in the Old Testament. All you find are texts against exploiting [younger] males for prostitution. If someone tells you different they are 'interpreting' texts a bit generous to their [current political] liking. However, the ancient Hebrew or Greek scriptures use specific terms.
@@granville7 exactly. it only condemns male-male fun times, not male male relationships. it doesn't even condemn female-female relationships either, non-binaries, or literally anyone else who isn't cis and straight.
I kinda accidently came out to my parents around a week ago that I had a girlfriend. I can't even to describe how negatively they reacted towards it. They started yelling at me that it was wrong and that I haven't found the right guy yet. They said that I'm too young to know who I like and that I shouldn't judge them because of how they act. The next morning, I go on my phone and see that someone went through my text messages, contacts and settings. Now every time I make mention of her to them, especially my mom, they make a big deal out it. Basically telling me in a subtle, sugar-coated version that I should break up with her and date a boy instead.
Are your parents those old-school Christians? If they are, then I can understand as my grandparents are like that. (I was adopted by them btw) I came out to them as bisexual and they basically said I didn't know what I liked because I'm too young. Well I plan to give them a big fuck you when I meet my girlfriend and kiss her. When you're old enough to move out, do so if you want. When you're out of college, you don't have to have any contact with them. Just remember that it's okay to love the same-sex. Our hearts want what our hearts want after all, we don't love by choice.
How can people not get the point of the song since the start? I mean, it's so obvious, you just need to think a little bit. There are so many people saying "I thought this was going to be a homophobic song until...". and I'm here like WTH
Okay so like a huge chunk of this song is like- the producer trying to give this gay musician advice, right? But whenever I hear it I get this storyline in my head where the producer is actually gay, but like- dealing with internalized homophobia. He's made himself marry a woman, maybe have kids, all this shit, because that's "the way it's supposed to be", and he thinks he's actually giving this kid sound advice and whatever. Then the "on the radio, in Hollywood, on the T.V. shows" part is him having a like- crisis or break down or something cause he can't stop remembering a guy he used to be in love with and he doesn't know how to stop thinking of him. It takes the kid rebelling and staying true to himself for the producer to realize that he's been letting other people's ideals rule his life until he's become part of the problem. Now he realizes why he's been so unhappy all his life and knows he has some shit to work through. Basically I thought "ya know how this song is already pretty gay? What if it was twice as gay and also more angsty?"
Thanks for saying this! Tearing down and being rude to heterosexuals is quite hypocritical. There are your homophones, but some people don't make an entire group of people bad. Plus there are allies that are straight and support us.
the voice of someone straight. i have to do an imitation cuz im not (really, though, it's just a mockery of comments ive seen on explicitly gay songs that say they feel its more about friendship. its not about the voice part)
Straight people say stupid shit like this. If they say shit, I'm going to mock them. It's probably not the nicest thing to do, but when you see idiots whining about how we're making everything gay and shoving it down their throats think of the children blah blah blah, it becomes and much better option to make some snarky internet comments than to go and beat someone. I have a feeling that a least *some* of the heterophobia you see might be this. I don't know what your experiences are, but when you have been bullied by a lot of shitty straight people, a few jokes with fellow queers are really good for blowing off steam. Historically, I find that the good allies are able to understand where these kinds of remarks come from, because understanding your privilege means understand many people with your privilege can be shit. The ones who do it for brownie points, on the other hand, tend to take offense to any criticisms of their behavior.
It shouldn't--and the beautiful thing is, it doesn't in mine bc I'm not the odd one out. Unfortunately, I (and you?) live in a country that only legalized gay marriage two and a half years ago, and where your employer can still fire you for your sexuality. My state's the one that passed HB2, for fuck's sake. Sexuality does matter. Sometimes, a privileged person will say something stupid. And sometimes they're too small-minded to listen. And thus, they are criticized in our modern art form of memes. Look, and correct me if I'm wrong, I have a feeling you're the kind of person that doesn't want insults thrown either way, because you don't want either side to attack each other. However, one side has already shot and fired, and while unity is a nice message, a lot of straight people think the fight's over after Obergefell, and feel that taking actual steps to normalize queerness is forcing it on them, and a lot of allies are here for brownie points, and tend to drown out the important voices. What we've got currently didn't come because we all held hands and sang friendship songs, it came from riots and harsh words. Words that don't make anyone comfortable, and certainly weren't liked by heterosexuals. Criticizing heteronormativity and straight people, yes, including allies, is going to make some uncomfortable, because being told you're doing something wrong and you have to change isn't fun, is guaranteed to bring more radical changes than just shouting "love is love", smiling pretty, and keeping everything nice will.
sry but to say it wasn't set in stone forever, Greek people worshiped Bisexuals Seriously the god of prophecy, the sun, and leader of all oracles's only functioning relationship that didn't end in disaster cause of him was a boy
i'm straight but i will always be a super supportive ally. when i have children i want them to be free to express themselves anyway they want. whether my son wants to wear dresses and paint his nails or my daughter wants to wear suits and tuxes. that is how they want to dress and i'm not going to be one to stop them.
I was singing this quietly in the car and my grandma just looked at me and said "I remember when I had a girlfriend" I stopped and just thought for a minute Edit: another story, my stepmom is bisexual cause when I came out to my dad and her she said she remembered when she used to be only into girls, my whole family is gay 😊😊😊
Me: SOME GIRLS LIKE GIRLS SOME BOYS GOTTA BOYFRIEND, I LIKE GIRLS AND THEY LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!!! Friends: Chill bro, we know... you came out like a week ago. Me: SO WHAT.
I like how in the end the guy s singing against the other guy, like how more and more people are going against the "mainstream media" and saying who they are I'm going to show this to my pan friend and see if they get the message that they need to fight for their right too =)
Isaac Evilman I wasn't trying to be rude, my friend and I like finding songs that aren't just guys and girls so we feel less alone. And since they are having a hard time coming out I thought this could inspire them to fight back (not physically) when their parents say it's just a phase
i thought this was just a funny song about the bias of the music industry and how straight still sells best and is considered the default, but then i read the date and almost started crying. this really was the world we lived in when this came out. even writing this was literally brave. its not perfect now but back then the industry was so broken, this is even kind of an understatement
For everyone who was upset with the beginning of the song it was so obviously making fun of people like that. I'm sorry if this comment also hurts your feelings but if you were hurt by the beginning of this then you're just looking for things to be offended by.
It shows people don't listen to all the lyrics. You don't even need the bridge to tell you this isn't homophobic. It's pretty clear how the guy describes a music business executive trying to hire him, the singer, to sing in a rather prolific way. At 0:39, that's such a big reveal about what this song is about. Like wow, how did those who got the song wrong even miss that?
My friend sent me this with no context other than "the first half of this song is our school" She's right too. In music we were doing "ship yourself" as our end of year song, since the only restriction was a group work thing and we had to learn to play it. Anyway, we got stopped because "it uses the word smut" and then "all the youtubers that you wish were gay" so we decided to test if it was the gay thing actually stopping us from doing the song. So what was the experiment? Two raps, "spectrum" by boyinaband and "the good fast rap" by the same person. We were told we couldn't do spectrum. So, what was my friends reaction? Let's give the school a subtle middle finger to the homophobia. Anyway, long story short, we did love will have its sacrifices (Carmilla gay vampire love ftw) and got a pretty good grade. So then we had to learn something on our own, for the sake of there's only a few weeks left of term. I'm learning don't stay in school because fuck my school
+Zenden Ong I'm going to. My aim is to suffer through this, get to college and uni and become a teacher myself. Because I'I want to be a teacher kids will remember for being a good teacher who understood
one time a little kid came up to me at taco bell when me and my girlfriend were on a fast food date, drinking a starburst freeze with two straws and he was like "are you guys best friends or something?" and i was like "no, we're a lil bit more than that:)" and it took him a minute but when he figured it out he was sO MINDBLOWN and he was like" GIRLS CAN DATE GIRLS?!" and i was like"yeah, it's like dating a boy but instead of having a boy you have a girl!" and he was so fascinated and he asked me "does that mean boys can date boys and it's, like, a thing people do?" and i was like "absolutely!" and then he out of nowhere just started CRYING (not even joking there were t e a r s) and said "Mommy! did you hear that?? I like boys more and it isn't strange OR bad!" and he just ran over and hugged me. about a week later i saw him again at the farm fresh by my neighbourhood and he saw me and he smiled and said "Hey, I know you!! By the way, this is Austin :)" and he pointed at a boy that was with him and he just sorta grinned at me and then Austin asked the boy who I was and he just responded "let's just say she helped me out a lot." and they walked away. I'm never gonna forget that day. And people think that homosexual love shouldn't be shown to little kids, that it will emotionally scar them or that it's disgusting or whatever. but to that i say, SUCK MY ASS:))))
+SlimeInArt thanks and society thinks that lgbt couples could emotionally scar children but nO and it frustrates me so much but the proof that they're wrong is this story
Old relative: For centuries, our ancestors have always been in a straight relationship... Old relative: -And to this day! Us descendants are still straight Me: uH- O_O" My girlfriend: Hi ;w;
Also why do so many old people think everything is straight and always was? Like... Look at mythology. Like... Apollo? Man he had a few boyfriends. And don't get me started on how many lesbians there are...
To my childhood best friend: I'm so sorry that when you came out to me three years ago, I was so homophobic towards you. My behavior was inexcusable. I'm sorry that I pushed you away. I'm sorry that you felt the need to go back in the closet because of the way I acted. If I had known then what I know now, things would have been different. But I can't change the past, I can only change the present and future and accept and love you for who you are. There is nothing wrong with you. There was something wrong with me. Edit: as of September 6th, 2020, I finally got the chance to apologize in person!! Two months later (and perhaps three and a half years too late). I'm glad I got the chance to apologize to him, even if he won't forgive me.
hi this was absolutely beautiful! have you been able to talk and apologise to them? i wish more people were able to grow and mature like you. changing mentality is incredibly important. thank you for being open and learning and becoming an ally. one of my best friends was incredibly homophobic and i had to leave her for my mental health (she especially had a problem with lesbians and im a lesbian). that was probably 5 years ago. this year, she came out as bisexual. she came from a very conservative family, but she's slowly been coming out of her shell. she's grown to accept herself and others. i hope you can talk to that childhood best friend and make amends, because the community needs to hear more stories about people unlearning homophobia. thank you
@@insertname1857 I haven't been able to apologize to him... there hasn't been a right time and it's not safe for either of us to talk about it since I only ever see him at church and we've grown apart a lot (which almost certainly has a lot to do with my aforementioned actions of the past). I wish I could apologize, I'm hoping there'll be a time soon I can.
I know this is late, but I just wanted to compliment you on growing as a person. I understand how hard it is to change something that you internalize, but you managed to do it and realize what you did wrong. I hope you manage to speak to your friend and make it up to them.
@@_soaring_clouds_ Thanks so much for this. I'm hoping I'll be able to talk to him soon, but I only see him at church but I think he's going to a different church now so I don't know if I'll be able to see him.
Charlie Bradbury I wish there were more people in the world like you. It takes a lot to be vulnerable and come to terms with your faults. You have a lot of willpower and a strong heart and I sincerely hope you make it up to your friend. Have a nice day ❤️❤️
“Girls like boys and boys like girls and that’s the way it has always been” I know the singer is mimicking someone else, but for those who believe this to be true, I want you to know that you are sorely mistaken. Homosexuality has been engraved in history since the beginning of recorded history. Egyptians (the great civilization) often took up partners of the same sex. Greeks (who inspire literally every western society and civilization of today) were incredibly gay. Aphrodite had many female partners and epics about her did not shy away from that. Achilles, from the Iliad, known as the greatest warrior, had a male lover and Plato even went to the lengths of writing an essay on why Achilles was the bottom. Plato was also said to have many relations with men. Alexander the Great, who is one of the greatest leaders in our known history, had a male lover whom he worshipped as if he were a god. Spartans, who were he most hardcore group of warriors (both male and female), were so gay that the men’s wives had to cut their hair short to ease their husbands into heterosexuality. Gayness has been everywhere, even in more recent history. Shakespeare (a weird dude) was gay. Thomas Jefferson was said to have an interestingly (wink wink) close friendship with James Madison, Alexander Hamilton wrote love letters to John Laurence, and Alan Turning, the man who basically invented computers and made it possible to end World War II earlier than it would have and did hella impressive sciency stuff, was gay and all his work was discredited because he was what he was. Frida Kahlo, one of the most influential painters, was known to have various female partners and she was never scared to confirm her love for other women. What I’m trying to say is that homosexuality has been around forever, and it will always be around. There’s nothing wrong with it, believe me, I struggled for a long time to come to this conclusion. I didn't want to acknowledge my sexuality, but I eventually resolved all my turmoil. The fact that you have enough love in you to share it with others is enough, and you should celebrate that, not mourn it. I want all the kids who’ve listened to this song or read this comment to know that they are not weird, or abnormal or in any bad way different than any other kid. If someone tells you this, you must kick them out of your life because toxicity will only ruin you. Love Yourself and love the love you have in you, there’s nothing wrong with it. Heck, the founding fathers of U.S.A were gay af, the greatest warriors in history were gay af, and they were pretty great people (some of them are questionable, and not all gay people are great people, they’re human so a lot of them can have faults but that’s not my point), so that means that you can be great and amazing and still be gay. Live on and be what you are without worry, my brethren.
Fun Fact: Even Nordic culture didn't care if you were gay. Just if you were a man you couldnt be the bottom. So yknow,, our ancestors are dissapointed in us.
Curly Cutie English isn't my native tounge too. But The fact that your father has something he likes to do is actually pretty cool. I've seen a few confused comments, so just to clarify:
The song starts out with a producer or some other guy in charge talking to a singer/songwriter.
Thank you! I was kinda confused but you really cleared it up!
I wanna hear Harry Styles singing this...
Spot on baby!
You just saved me and my music homework
But it does make sense the vast majority of the population is straight and you are more likely to buy music which you can identify with, so it is obvious that the manager advises him to write in a straight perspective.
It would be homophobic if you boycott him just because of his song or to blackmail him.

@@AleronWolf i think they just meant that this is a song about being part of lgbtq+ but the “straight“ part is super catchy
You can always change it to "girls like girls and boys like boys". That's what I do, because my brain switches it automatically anyway.

I think I'm going to need lyrics to understand who's singing what in this version, but other than that this idea is, dare I say, *fabulous*
@@kittykatplus Well, it's all the same guy singing. He just flips around in talking to the new singer. Starting by telling him he needs to pretend to be straight, then breaking and getting angry because he knows that kids already knows. But thanks for the comment. XD

I fully agree with you
I was forcing myself to like boys too until I found out about LGBTQ+ people. If there was one single song I wish was on the radio when I was in my teens being bullied at school and questioning my worth as a human...
Someone's worth as a human is an interesting topic, while to some you might be worth everything and to some people nothing. But in the end if you die there will be someone who will take your place. Meaning that you're worth nothing as a human.
Thank you. Those were my dad's last words to me, funnily enough. "I love you. Be strong." I'm trying. Blessings to you for being supportive x
Absolutely.

...you mean that you think the word homosexuals is offensive..? Because if thats what you mean then lemme tell you that its an objective scientific term
And if you mean that some might get offended because she wrote homosexuals in the very end then well it happens often that teachers are very hesistant to talk about gays.
Hmm old.. old... old people?
*O L D P E O P L E*
My friend lightly slapped the guys head and said, "Hey scram dirty homo!"
Both of the boys starting to tear up a little and ran out of the theater. My friends laughed and giggled.
I told them that wasn't very nice and then they told me to get away from them.
I met the boys outside the theater. I apologized for my friends behavior and to this day those boys are my best friends.
Love you Davis and Ryan 💞
Thanks for standing up for some one like myself
No problem! Btw, love your profile picture.
Because I'm not heterosexual I'm happy about what you did to encourage those men omg so inspirational, I can't even rn

being gay isnt a sin because in the bible it says that love overrules any sin.
Ah so my love for satan isn't a sin noice
Julia, if you look a bit closer you'll find nothing in the Bible against gays. Not even in the Old Testament. All you find are texts against exploiting [younger] males for prostitution. If someone tells you different they are 'interpreting' texts a bit generous to their [current political] liking. However, the ancient Hebrew or Greek scriptures use specific terms.
@@granville7 Male's prostitution =/= Being in relationship with male, while you're male also.
Jesus literally said "Love one another" yet some people use Jesus to justify their lgbt-phobia
Basically telling me in a subtle, sugar-coated version that I should break up with her and date a boy instead.
tell your parents its none of their business who you love
Jace Fangmeier I tried several times, but they still won't listen.
just remember if someone is that way then there their not worth the effort of arguing with love who you want to love
I've also told them that. I've tried everything. If I wasn't a minor, they probably would've kicked me out of the house by now.
+Directioner4ever! god it's exactly what i thought!
ikr
yeah, It was clearly ment to ironic in the beginning.
I know right!! Did they even listen to the lyrics and read the title like seriously guys
For like the first 10 seconds I was about ready to kill someone:3

I'll never understand that statement. The kid's don't care and if they do, they're curious and understanding.
Whenever I think of this song I always hear it as “girls like girls and boys like boys”
OMG SAME
Well- I mean- that's how the ending kinda goes, so you aren't wrong

They set it up like that on purpose

No that’s literally what the song is about.

Definitely need more
Way more, but I'm straight. I just think everyone should be accepted

Try the song Everyone Is Gay! It's pretty lit ;)

Thanks to the people saying “homophobic people” and not “straight people” because not all straight people are homophobic
sadly lots of people are still, :(
Glass Subliminals true :(
honestly some gay people are homphobic too.
Thanks for saying this! Tearing down and being rude to heterosexuals is quite hypocritical. There are your homophones, but some people don't make an entire group of people bad. Plus there are allies that are straight and support us.

*straight voice:* Oh gosh golly gee I love songs about friendship!!
the voice of someone straight. i have to do an imitation cuz im not
(really, though, it's just a mockery of comments ive seen on explicitly gay songs that say they feel its more about friendship. its not about the voice part)
You're using slurs, so you're probably not in a group that's much better.
Good. Good for you.
Maybe if you want to keep yourself out of the stupid people group, don't act like them, okay?
Got this recommended again after YEARS ... glad to be back
sry but to say it wasn't set in stone forever, Greek people worshiped Bisexuals Seriously the god of prophecy, the sun, and leader of all oracles's only functioning relationship that didn't end in disaster cause of him was a boy
THANK YOU! FINALLY, SOMEONE SAID IT!
Zepher's a dick though. Like fuck that guy, he couldn't let Apollo have one nice, long lasting relationship because he was jealous.
Well, the song is mostly set from the mind of a homophobic producer, and that's a lot of homophobic people's argument
Not to mention Heracles, manliest of the manly men, was bi too.
That's something I didn't know about greek mythology. Thank you for that tid-bit of info! :3

I like how in the end the guy s singing against the other guy, like how more and more people are going against the "mainstream media" and saying who they are I'm going to show this to my pan friend and see if they get the message that they need to fight for their right too =)
What rights doesn't your friend have? Gay marriage is legal, so your friend can marry whoever and all the other rights are covered too...
Isaac Evilman their parents are very homophobic I want to show them since you don't usually hear lgbt songs on the radio
Isaac Evilman I wasn't trying to be rude, my friend and I like finding songs that aren't just guys and girls so we feel less alone. And since they are having a hard time coming out I thought this could inspire them to fight back (not physically) when their parents say it's just a phase
+Isaac Evilman I'd just like to mention that gay marriage isn't legal in every country.
Like Australia.
Isaac Evilman how many times have you been assaulted for being straight? We are nowhere near equality.
Omg how did I only just find this song, I already love it. I go to a religious school so Me and my girlfriend must hide our relationship. It hurts
Peabee Neko you shouldn't have to hide it I go to one and everything is ok with me and my boyfriend but it's your choice to come out to the school
Peabee Neko sorry to hear that....it's ok hope you have a happy life together
Peabee Neko stop hiding it time to see who you are😁
Tweek ;)
Honey don't hide it. Love is love, people may judge but oh well, it's who you are, and nobody can change that!
i thought this was just a funny song about the bias of the music industry and how straight still sells best and is considered the default, but then i read the date and almost started crying. this really was the world we lived in when this came out. even writing this was literally brave. its not perfect now but back then the industry was so broken, this is even kind of an understatement
For everyone who was upset with the beginning of the song it was so obviously making fun of people like that. I'm sorry if this comment also hurts your feelings but if you were hurt by the beginning of this then you're just looking for things to be offended by.
Alexis Lyle
Thank you!
Why are so many comments saying that they thought it was homophobic at first?
Can you not listen to the whole thing before ranting???
It shows people don't listen to all the lyrics. You don't even need the bridge to tell you this isn't homophobic. It's pretty clear how the guy describes a music business executive trying to hire him, the singer, to sing in a rather prolific way. At 0:39, that's such a big reveal about what this song is about. Like wow, how did those who got the song wrong even miss that?
EXACTLY. It’s obviously satiric from the start.
Well thinking before shouting ain't their strong suit
That is true
well they said it sounded homophobic *at first* so that means they've finished the song already
My friend sent me this with no context other than "the first half of this song is our school"
She's right too.
Bravo :D Keep fighting the good fight. But stay in school, school is important, even if the people who run it are crap

THIS WAS MADE 11 YEARS AGO????????????? WTFFF HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS
one time a little kid came up to me at taco bell when me and my girlfriend were on a fast food date, drinking a starburst freeze with two straws and he was like "are you guys best friends or something?" and i was like "no, we're a lil bit more than that:)" and it took him a minute but when he figured it out he was sO MINDBLOWN and he was like" GIRLS CAN DATE GIRLS?!" and i was like"yeah, it's like dating a boy but instead of having a boy you have a girl!" and he was so fascinated and he asked me "does that mean boys can date boys and it's, like, a thing people do?" and i was like "absolutely!" and then he out of nowhere just started CRYING (not even joking there were t e a r s) and said "Mommy! did you hear that??
That's so beautiful

To my childhood best friend:
I'm so sorry that when you came out to me three years ago, I was so homophobic towards you.

“Girls like boys and boys like girls and that’s the way it has always been”
I know the singer is mimicking someone else, but for those who believe this to be true, I want you to know that you are sorely mistaken.
Greatest comment ever.
Sophia Middlekauff i agree
U need more likes
Angela Rodriguez okay, this is an amazing comment
Fun Fact: Even Nordic culture didn't care if you were gay. Just if you were a man you couldnt be the bottom.
