I came out to my father using this song about 5 years ago. Accidentally stumbled upon this again, and it made me cry. He did come back from work, gave me a big hug and told me he just wants me to be happy. This reminded me of that. He wasn't a perfect father, but this is one of the things he never made me fight him about.

I came out to my parents using this song around seven years ago (I was 12), and while things have changed for me over the years, I am still firmly a part of the lgbtq+ community (only this time as the T and the As lol). I remember my mother (a heavily Christian woman) was very upset and abusive towards me (even more so after coming out to her) and I was unable to revisit this video and listen to this song for many years. While she still has a long way to go, and her abuse has only taken on a different shape over time, I'm finally in a good enough place to listen to this song again. To be honest, I'm straight but I have a big respect to everyone especially to the LGBT community. And I believe that you don’t have to be gay to be a supporter, you just have to be yourself.
We are all people and that’s it. We’re all equal. Everyone deserves to be respected right? Some people say that I'm an "Ally" and I don't know what that means.
By the way, I'm just a 15-year old girl and I'm confused of who really I am. Maybe because I'm still young, so I'm not 100% sure about myself and I'm still figuring myself out.

3 years ago I commented on this song saying how I was afraid of coming out to my friends and family about my identity and sexuality, today I am out and so happy to be myself. I saw this on my saved songs in one of my random playlists and wanted to come back to thank you Ally. You really helped me get through some tough times and this song should be the anthem of the theys and gays

@McKenna Schabert I know how that feels. I had a best friend over a year ago, but when I told her I liked girls she never talked to me again. At least the other 2 friends of mine are cool with it. I'm too scared to tell my other friends or my mom or my super Christian sister that I'm bi/pansexual (still not fully sure yet, maybe I'm gay too).
i wasn’t afraid actually. but that’s because most of my mates are either guys or they’re lgbtq+ too (or both).
I am scared as well, I really only have male friends and I’m pretty sure if I came out it would be pretty awkward.

At least their understanding, I am planning on never coming out to my family, ever. Especially my dad and brothers , they were openly rude to a gay friend of our when he came over. They use gay as an insult and are being taught by my father that it's okay to say "fag" and "fa***it". I'll wait till college, on the other side of my state, then I'll come out to any new friends I make.
