    Really appreciate the videos so much better than most who seem to lie about the experience. Hate those saying they use 1/32 power at iso 100 1/200s and the flash is miles away from the subject but the subject is super bright. Wish they would be honest and say images highly edited in post.

    You could raise the ISO a few stops without consequence. 400 should allow a lower flash power and faster recycle time.

    Watching the side on view of you taking a picture less than a third of the light from the flash is actually hitting your diffuser, and when you use the Mieke flash it hits right in the middle of the diffuser. I think if the v350 was hitting the middle it wouldn’t miss any flashes any more because at the moment it is bouncing the light around the woods before it hits your subject. Love the channel I have learned a lot from you look forward to more great episodes. Cheers

    I had 2 V860ii's for my Sony and both would regularly misfire in manual, but almost never in TTL, so I ended up leaving it in TTL, which did get annoying as some insects would fly off when it pre flashed, but on my M43 bodies, the V350 and TT685 work great in manual, although the 350 is a little weak like you mentioned, and this is while using an enclosed Cygnustech diffuser.

    I use Godox TT350 and yes it recharges kinda slowly unfortunately, but it was cheap and works if the pace is somewhat slow. I've also missed some great shots due to blackness, have since then learned to shoot more slowly (which is not optimal in macro as you're mentioning). With Godox you have to make sure you dont have it on M mode. That is master and the flash does not change power. Make sure its either S mode or nothing is showing. I have the TT600 and had same issue until I discovered that it should not be set on M mode (Bottom symbol near the wireless). For the misses it need to recharge. Have the sound on so you know when its charged for the next shot.

      @@MicaelWidell First of all thanks for all the videos you post. You do enspire me to shoot Macro. I also ended up buying the Laowa 100mm x2 even though I have the Sony 90mm G master. They are both sharp. Now for the Godox....
      It looks like the V350 has the M mode (The small M at the bottom ) You can watch this video of how it works ua-cam.com/video/DYRd82Ro0DU/v-deo.html. I do have the TT600 and it does misfire sometimes but when its on wireless mode. When on hotshoe make sure you press it all the way as the Sony contacts are bit sensitive on Godox. Also make sure the battery is fully charged and the sound is turned on so you know when you are ready for next shoot. When you take shoots after each other it may take some time to recharge and cool the lamp. As I said Godox are a bit more sensitive. I would give it a second try. :)

    i have a tt350 and use it mostly in macro. it feels a stop weaker than your meike. i have bought it because it's cheap and light and worked with my godox trigger.
    i don't have dark frames but never used the burst mode. i had dark frames but that was when i didn't pushed it completely inside the socket.
    i am shooting between iso 200 and 400 with the laowa 85mm to have a smaller flash setting.
    that said i am not having enough time during the sleeps of my newborn to drain the batteries ;).

    I started with the tt350s due to the size and locally available and it's the same situation with the missed flashes.

  • @edb2720
    @edb2720 Рік тому

    I have the TT350 and I can comfortably shoot at 1/16 most of the time with no need to increase exposure in post. This is with a GX85 body which is bound to be less sensitive than a full frame sony camera. Maybe the V350 version is weaker? or maybe it's too tall for that body? The reason I specifically chose the TT350 instead of the Meike MK320 is the height, since I knew the meike would be too close to the lens and that could cast a shadow on the subject. I also use a custom made diffuser that captures all the light of the flash, that's probably another factor.
    On the black frames issue, using eneloop batteries I have noticed that sometimes I get black frames when the batteries are not fully charged, but that's not usually the case in the first 20-30% of the battery charge, although I am aware that the meike outperforms the V/TT350 in the refresh rate area. One day I might buy the meike and compare it myself, but I'm actually waiting and hoping some manufacturer out there comes up with a new small form factor speedlight, not too many options out there for small cameras and that's disappointing.

    Micael, the angle of the flash seems to shoot 'over' your subject (check at 8:04) thereby missing the full strobe of the flash; maybe that explains the lack of light on your subject??

    I bought a 3 pack of the diffusers that are like square socks that slip over the flash and find them way nicer than the big diffuser you have. I bought one like yours but it was just way too bulky for me. The ones that slide over the flash seem to work better for me than that one.

  • @dbphoto1310
    @dbphoto1310 2 роки тому +1

    You are correct in saying the Godox doesn't work as well as the Meike in your macro diffusion setup. This is because your diffusion is a good match for the Meike and a very poor one for the Godox. The low forward facing Meike flash gets a lot of its energy in the centre of the Doerr diffusor, the tall slender Godox gets very little of its energy in the diffusor, at a shallow angle. So you need a higher setting, which reduces the recycling speed. Also, you seem to use the Godox in its wide angle (14mm) setting, which reduces the amount of energy hitting the diffusor even more. The Godox is automatically set to 14mm when you extend the built-in diffusor panel. So for people using a different diffusion setup to yours, the Godox may well be a good option.

Both at 1/60th second and with hss at faster speeds. So either there is a difference in the modes we use our flashes in or there is a hardware (battery?) problem with yours.

      @@dbphoto1310 I’m not sure what to think. I could have gotten a bad unit, but several others in the comments also write that their Godox flash misses shots. • @ZeLoShady
    @ZeLoShady 2 роки тому +1

    Thoughts in the video. The 360 cam is awesome sometimes. I hope you never do as full video with it again though.
    Yes, it will miss frames sometimes but only at 1/8th or higher or 1/16 if you do 20+ bursts and the flash can't fully recycle in time.
    I would have liked to see what the meike can do in the video as well. Why compare 2 things but only show the 1?
    Personally, I have had amazing results with this flash. Using a proper diffuser I find I rarely have to shoot higher than 1/16th with proper settings. This flash can continuously fire at 1/32nd as well for super deep stacks (which isn't something you compared, it would have been nice to see how long each can burst for at different flash powers). Only when I start shooting at 4x is when I need to go higher in power. I have a friend who used a poorly designed diffuser and comparted to a proper one, he was losing a stop of light or more when shooting. Controlling the light is so important in macro and is probably even more important than the flash itself.

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  2 роки тому +1

      I agree the 360 should be used sparingly going forward :) A bit too much to film only with it.
      The reason I didn't test it side by side with the Meike is I have used the Meike in pretty much 90% of the other videos on my channel, so I am very familiar with it. And I would have tested the V350 more in depth, if it didn't perform so badly, missing 20% or so of shots even at 1/16 even at pretty slow shooting rates. I didn't see the point of doing more tests with it, when it performs so much worse than the much cheaper Meike MK320. Maybe I got a bad copy of the v350?

    • @ZeLoShady
      @ZeLoShady 2 роки тому

      @@MicaelWidell You definitely could have a bad copy. I have had a bad experience with the TT350 version (before I upgraded) where it would stop shooting because of over heating even if I had just taken like 10 shots. The quality control for these flashes might not be as great.
      It could also be that the flash just doesn't work the way YOU need it to. There isn't one way to do things so it might not fit yours even if it fits mine. Lenses are always in this scenario.

    Your choice of diffuser wastes a lot of light. Flashes recycle faster when they don't use the entire charge so a diffuser with a top and reflective surface might allow shooting using a more efficient. I use an old Canon flash and have no experience with either brand you mentioned. Is the difference possibly what the flash does with the excess charge not used at lower settings? Your comparison is only valid if you set each unit to the settings that work for each. The Meike flash is shorter and may just be at a better angle.

      I would not recommend a ring flash. In my opinion it gives ugly looking photos and it is hard to diffuse. Check my video on the Godox MF12.

  • @HansOlque
    @HansOlque 9 місяців тому

    In the video you can see that the built-in diffuser plate has been pulled out. When you pull it out, the flash zoom automatically sets to 12mm. This makes the light less strong. Could it be that that was the problem with the weak flash? And I dont have black frames. I can do Lo-burstmode up to 1/8.

    That's so odd you are having such bad experiences with that. Maybe it isn't syncing with the Sony right. Which I'd think Godox should have that down with communication on a Sony. My TT350 syncs with Olympus so that it doesn't allow blackout. I will see it in my EVF of it isn't ready to fire. Also I can shoot an 8 frame focus stack at 1/32 within a second. I was looking to understand the V model because of its more powerful battery.
