Licensed pilot here, this game is the real deal. Its been making its rounds through the AOPA and we all love it. Been a big gateway drug to getting a bunch of the old timer retired vets into VR.
Honestly, this is an extremely simplified version of how modern combat aviation works. It's absolutely a ton of fun, and built for VR. But this is a lite-sim, DCS is where your helmet will catch on fire with the amount of buttons and knobs you have to worry about lol
@@BookmansBlues not really, the weapons systems are simple enough that anyone can learn them in under a few days, but complex enough that with practice, you can still find ways to improve your own skills, and gain an upper hand from other players/AI.

Some of my friends would defiantly feel that way, but most people I encounter these days would do an about face and scoot if they felt the least bit intimidated by it. This is in part why Fast Travel still exists in games, when there can be more than enough content to keep people occupied between locations in games. They just can't be bothered by actual in-game immersion, it is always about min-Maxing their time in game. And I get it, a lot of people have families, needs need to be taken care of before parents can play, etc, time is fleeting, there are times when I feel the same way, as I work from home, I need to make sure everything work wise is in a good place before I can switch over to a game, let alone feel like I spent all my time trying to get from point A to point B, and run out of time before I can do anything. Though I still dislike Fast Travel.
Battlebit took the same approach on a battelfield clone and as of now its playerbase is larger than actual battlefield. Shitty graphics with S tier gameplay. I was kind of hoping that someone would take a similar approach with a star citizen clone that had crap graphics but achieves the same goal.. I wonder how that would turn out.
It's just awesome how well the controls work. Perfect for anyone with a headset who doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on HOTAS and rudder pedals yet.
@@adawg3032 I want Battlebit in VR so much. It would totally run on modern vr hardware, it literally runs at 200fps++ in 4K.. Personally I love the graphical style as well. It's just very clear and uncluttered.
There's been too many times to count where I simply try to lean against the cockpit while shifting around, or come back from a break, and try to grab the controls with my bare hands as if that's what I've been doing this entire time. There's simply no beating that level of immersion.
VTOL is an incredible game. One of the most immersive despite having super mario 64 textures. Wasn't into planes that much but a friend got me to try VTOL out a few years ago and now it's one of my favorite games.

Put your yaw on stick control in settings, as someone who's played for quite a few hours freelance, and had formation pilots who play DCS tell me to turn this on to save me three digits on getting flight pedals: You'll thank me for changing it.

VTOL VR is sick as fuck but I normally just do singleplayer or coop tho because I get wrecked in pvp (I attribute this to a combination of skill issues and the types of people who play VTOL PVP on the reg being more serious)

No, but he's a virtual fighter pilot in DCS, lol. DCS is extremely realistic, especially in VR. It has everything that IRL fighter pilots/jets do, except for the feeling of the Gs and the danger of dying, lmao.
I know VR is hard to run as is. But what would have sold me instantly is if there was trees and more graphic fidelity. If that’s not possible I understand. VR is super hard to develop for, i tried.

I see submitted results where a 3060 should get 116 fps with an i7-610, which is a 12 year old CPU. here are the requirements to run: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. OS: Microsoft Windows 10. Processor: Intel Core i5-3570K or equivalent. Memory: 8 GB RAM. Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 or equivalent. DirectX: Version 11. Network: Broadband Internet connection. Storage: 3 GB available space. its literally using rendering that is beyond a decade old.
@@jamesb1018 I think they mean PSVR, the only issue with that is that there is only one dev working by himself on the game, BahamutoD (that one BDArmory guy), not only that, but the game relies heavily on Steam services for the multiplayer aspect, as well on Steam Workshop for both single player, and multiplayer campaigns/missions. Without workshop, the game only has the base tutorials and some freeflight maps.
Umm....think again. Like literally not even how the game would run 1080p30 max 💀 But how would you run the interface with a 🎮? It would have to be KBM compatible at least

This is my favourite combat flight sim. Has a bit of a learning curve but at least you don’t need to read 500 pages to turn on the radar like in DCS.

If DCS is like iRacing then VTOL VR is like Forza. It clearly has its roots in realism, but it's still pretty friendly to pick up and play.
Forza is more of ace combat. I'd say that VTOL is closest to gran turismo or assetto corsa

This game in particular is not too demanding. Probably anything above a GTX 1080 would play it well. Of course you need a VR headset too.
