I was also privalidged to go and see him perform at The Boardwalk in Sheffield around 2007 ish. I found him totally mesmerising to watch. Norman Watt Roy pouring with sweat from the start.
I'll never forget being in The Wardrobe in Leeds, 2012 and randomly finding out Wilko and Norman were playing that night, couldn't believe it, utterly blown away, terrific gig. Heroes the pair of the them.
man Norman Watt Roy is a monster, so glad to see Wilco still alive and kicking and playing better than ever, awesome post, wish he'd come down to NZ again, we'd give him a great welcome
The initial diagnosis turned out to be wrong. It was subsequently found he had a far less aggressive version, so he lived a lot longer than was originally expected.
@@frontagulus If you are referring to me, I will answer you. I'm talking about him being a top bassist and he is, you are a bassist, do you characterize him if he is good or not by 3 notes?
Norman Watt-Roy is responsible for the bass line on Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, one of the great bass lines. And he doesn't get to play any open strings as it's in the key of F.
@@frontagulus Watch from 6 mins onwards. This was NWR's solo tour and Wilko came on for a guest slot. Norman is a highly skilled player, fluent in many styles. Also, sometimes three notes is enough.
Great stuff. Love the improv approach to a Classic. Great ensemble playing but, blimey, the Bass Player makes it all tick.....hard work indeed, I salute you, sir. To the OP, many thanks for posting. Great quality.
Great video punkrocksal - I wuz there near the front! Saw Wilko with Dr Feelgood at Cheltenham and Reading in 1975. This took me back 38 years. What a star! Stay well Wilko!!
Absolute legend!!! Saw him warm up a Stranglers gig 2 years ago and have been hooked on the guy since! Can't believe I'd never heard his stuff previously!!
Back then the Stranglers were banned from live gigs for inciting a riot so they were booked under a different name the underground grapevine made sure they still had packed gigs that continued to be a bit of a riot. Like i said great days ✌
We had the pleasure of seeing Wilko and Norman more than once and I can't begin to imagine who could fill the gap at Northern Kin next year. Maybe no pub rock but at least we'll have some space rock from Hawkwind, who we've seen many times.
Absolutely agree with you about Norman. He has a brother Garth who used to play lead guitar in East of Eden back in the 70s (this dates me) -any idea what happened to him?
John Morrow i too remember garth watt roy!,saw the two brothers playing in a band called "The Greatest Show On Earth" supporting Jack Bruces band "Lifetime" in birmingham town hall in the early 70s,was a great live band the brothers were in and i got a few of the LPs + CDs
try a band from the nineties called Charlie croker and the providers on you tube, songs like can't get enough, the croker, time, good things and others are awesome
Hero of mine. Pure Thames Delta Bluesman and Watt Roy is a god Playing on a stage myself I've played many times....good stuff This is the end of my message
Amazing footage. Close up & personal just as it should be. I'm no videographer but always try and take a bit of footage when possible. Hope to see Wilko next year in Bordeaux.
I've played one much smaller!! It only just took the drums, the rest of us played on the floor!! (Not that I dare mention myself in the same breath as Wilko!!)
Wilko Johnson RIP. Very sad news of his passing but I’m so privileged to have seen him play live.
I was also privalidged to go and see him perform at The Boardwalk in Sheffield around 2007 ish.
I found him totally mesmerising to watch. Norman Watt Roy pouring with sweat from the start.
Saw Wilco and NW-R play for the first time in July. He was so full of life!
Takes me back to my Pub Rock days when we used to drive for an hour to stand in a pub watching and listening to real music played live!
Best thing I've seen and heard in ages.
RIP Wilko, what a sweet talented guy.
What a great night out. Always. Precious are these/were these chopsy London musicians - they could back it up. Fab.
I'll never forget being in The Wardrobe in Leeds, 2012 and randomly finding out Wilko and Norman were playing that night, couldn't believe it, utterly blown away, terrific gig. Heroes the pair of the them.
Sandy Batchelor I went to that too. Awesome. I bumped in to Wilko & Norman when they were on my flight from Bilbao to Heathrow a week ago.
Classic Wilco. No more another great talent gone RIP
man Norman Watt Roy is a monster, so glad to see Wilco still alive and kicking and playing better than ever, awesome post, wish he'd come down to NZ again, we'd give him a great welcome
Thanks Neil Ellis
Completely agree about Norman. He's a bass-beast!
RIP Wilko - a wonderful human being.
How can anybody not love wilko and his music
Wilko beat cancer after being given 10 months to live, legend !
Cancer couldn't keep up and had to drop out. He didn't beat it, he wore it out.
The initial diagnosis turned out to be wrong. It was subsequently found he had a far less aggressive version, so he lived a lot longer than was originally expected.
Norman Watt-Roy is a great bassist.
What do you mean? He played three notes all night.....

And he played sex and drugs and rock and roll

RIP Wilko Johnson - True Legend !
Keep rocking Wilko, what a legend.
Absolute legend!!!

If you'd been 20 in 1972 you would have and living in London.
I was great days ✌

Was at the gig last night, felt privileged. God knows why it’s taken me so many years to see him live. Was excellent.
You saw these legends, in a PUB?
Eternally jealous, in Nevada.
We had the pleasure of seeing Wilko and Norman more than once and I can't begin to imagine who could fill the gap at Northern Kin next year. Maybe no pub rock but at least we'll have some space rock from Hawkwind, who we've seen many times.
even the rhythm in his vocal intros are perfect. Wilko just oozes rhythm
RIP in guitar heaven, You will stay in our hearts forever. 💗😢🙏🎸🕊
Lucky to have seen and met Wilko a few times in Belfast down the years.
great credit for Wilko ploughing his very individual furrow all these years. As for Norman, I think he comes to life at 5:55
Imagine nipping down the pub, & THIS kicks off!!
You'd never wanna leave!! 😍😍😍
lol... Absolutely! I can't quite remember that far back, but think this was a ticketed event and naturally sold out in advance of the night.
excellent quality video, makes a nice change. great to see wilko alive and well. at least, looking well.
Oh, to be there! Wilko is the man. Norman Watt-Roy is just friggin' solid
Absolutely agree with you about Norman. He has a brother Garth who used to play lead guitar in East of Eden back in the 70s (this dates me) -any idea what happened to him?

Great performance, and nice to see a picture of the great Bob Dylan in the background.
Fantastic show, amazing to be there
The once and future Wilko...God I love his music. It makes me want to get wasted and smash my head through a brick wall...fucking brilliant!!!
Wow, he's still rockin', kicking the crap out of cancer as he's doing it obviously.

ACE of live entertainment that song will last for an eternity and byound....!
Lovely stuff at the end there Norman 👍🏻
Absolutely brilliant! Wilko has always been a hero of mine. Just out of interest, what camera did you use? The audio quality is fantastic.
A compact camera - Panasonic TZ7 which I have had repaired so many times. Can't get them now and the newer models are just not as good.
Wilko is indestructible!!
We wish.😌
Recently discovered Wilco and Roger daltrey , bought the cd , absolutely FUCKIN BRILLIANT
Another of my favourites gone 😢
Would give my left bollock to have been there!
This is the way you have a venue
Excellent!!
Norman Watt-Roy is a superb base player. Wilko is my Essex hero.
Here Wilko referencing John Otway's 'Flowers' (and JL Hooker before hi) during the Intro. Long live Wilko!
Wow! What talent, sadly never to be repeated.
What do you mean Jimmy?
There's nothing like this now or ever will be with the musicians that are up and coming.
