1) be the lighthouse -> maintain positive emotions so that people will be drawn to you (smile, eye contact) -how do i want people to feel? --> set an intention 2) be curious (notice, wonder, ask questions) 3) listen (for real) 4) ask great questions (discover patterns) 5) share the real you (express your real emotions in the moment) this was so interesting and helpful! thank you.
Very good talk, thanks. my biggest problem in having a conversation with strangers is i'm too slow: too slow to realize interesting things to talk about, too slow to realize i should ask more about something that is very interesting to me... Having better conversations would for sure help us more feeling less lonely.
Same problem, but I think we should first know how to have good conversations with people you are acquainted with. So, it should be more challenging than a close friend and less pressuring than a stranger.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've watched on communication. I can just tell these are the core principles of good conversation from observing people I know are good at it. I'm just gonna focus on these for a good while.
Georgie thank you for a great talk. I hope you're having a great day today. Please continue to pass on your message of conversation. I am an English man living in the Southern part of the USA and in 2021 the world is crumbling because we don't talk and listen enough to strangers.
My goal this year is to be more authentic, so I google "how to have authentic conversation, then I found this Ted Talk. Thanks, I felt quite inspired by the sharing.
Yesterday I was thinking about this, and this helped me clear my mind and set the goal of having more interesting and meaningful conversations, or at least trying to
The opening question, I absolutely detest it and view the questioner as dim and uninteresting.. I love the work that I do but, it is such a small part of my every day living.. I would love one day to be asked intriguing questions from others but.. I would NEVER ask, "so tell me, what is it that you do".. Thank you for this talk, you have proved what I have always known about myself, I am a very interesting individual.. 😊
Yea self praise is no praise, I doubt your that interesting, probably why people don't start conversations with you, I would not stay if you started talking, enjoy living in ur delusional mindset about your self lol.
What if the stranger is a selfish , mean , and deceitful person? Is it prudent to open up with total strangers ? He or she could be a thug ! Doesn't privacy matter?
Great talk, going to have to hard-disagree with you on "how we do anything is how we do everything" because it's one of the most false and harmful ideas about people and leads to misjudgment. I know plenty of people who appear to be messy, constantly late to meetings and disorganized, don't have their lives together, but they are immaculate and singularly devoted, with great attention to detail as mothers and caregivers. A person might be uncaring and dismissive of schoolwork but passionate and full of expertise when it comes to a sport or hobby. How we do one thing is ABSOLUTELY not how we do everything. You'll greatly misjudge someone by thinking it applies to everything.
Brilliant! but her constant smiley facial expression isn't going along well in delivering her beautiful messages. Feels a bit like I'm listening to a new generation model AI speech. Something is missing! Overall, it's meaningful.

Same here. I've tried several times, but I have no idea what to say after my initial icebreaker.

Great insights. I can feel that statement "I was surrounded by people and yet felt disconnected and alone"
Great talk, wonderful messages. If we all had more meaningful conversations we’d feel so much more connected as a society.

Those are some really good tips ! I'm not a fan of her style of talking, but the information is helpful.
This is very helpful!
She reminds me of Bridget Jones!
