Wow I remember the first time I saw this KX 420 at my local dealership I was 14 years old I got the KX 80 I remember the reviews were not good on KX 420 but was a beautiful bike thanks for the memories 😊
This is a 1981 KX420-A2, not a 1980 model. I beam section swingarm, green seat graphics and aluminium footpegs are sure signs of a 1981 model KX420. ;-)
Was one of the worst handling bike I ever rode in that Era. And I'm including the 81 cr 450 r. Very similar. It had the ability to buck you off quickly. When I went to a 83 yz 490 was an immediate upgrade. Then the 84 CR 500 was decent but lacked something I could never describe. The 86 500 was really the first complete feeling big bore I owned. I slways loved the Kawasaki finish though.
Yes. I rode both the 81 CR450 & 84 CR500, both suffered from a too light flywheel coupled with a shit clutch which upset an already unsettled chassis IMO. Horrible models!
Had an 82 first time I rode it baffle blew out and it blew up hadn't rebuilt 2nd time in rode hit a tree lost 3 toes on left foot healed up bought a cr 500 but it was a beast great looking bike
Sounds tight ,they all sound like that big Air Cooled strokers ,its the vibration /cooling fins ,the exhaust note sounds like hitting nitro with a Hammer so she's tight.💯🤠🤟,and the little end bearings soon rattle with the slightest wear.

I can't believe how badly the front end tucks on mine in soft dirt! LOL! Still, I love riding it. 🙂

Find him , and Thank him ,,, these KX420 A & B were junk ,, Kawasaki was embarrassed and discontinued parts shortly after release

There's no such thing as a KX420 A or KX420 B! They are (were) KX420-A1 (1980) and KX420 A2 (1981). 🙂 @@GatesRapes
