Beautiful bike iv still got the baby 1 to this kx80 1979 steel back swing arm and steel rims , my dad bought it me when I was 10 I'm 39 now going to restore it soon
Mannn!! Had one of those in high school! Loved it!! So much power I use to have to replace the spokes regularly in the rear wheel. Still have the frame. Damn that one looks awesome! OMG! Checking eBay for price
Beauty dime piece. Mine (KX’s) were 79, 80, 82, all air cooled 250 cc. 82 was first year motocrosser equipped with front disk brake. They had a rather unique rear fender number plate style as well. Early Uni Track system was hard on pivot bearings but did work. Buddy had a 81 KDX 420 would roost with best of them. My 250’s all had plenty of power. The 79’s swing arm was a work of aluminum fabrication art. They were twin shock but could fly on it as well.
I had a friend that had one as clean as that one back in 80,s. I had a 80 YZ 125 with Simmons forks it was trick in those days. He literally throw chunks of sod at me I had to duct my head would of probably knocked me out 😂. Best memories riding with all my buddy's. Back then we rode on side of the road to tracks we made in the woods or orange groves
My great uncle had a 420 and a 500, growing up and riding with him and his son are some of the best memories I have. We called the bikes frog one and frog 2. We mainly hill climbed pipelines for fun.
Thats absolutely interesting bike and museum keep up the great work and one day i would love to just come to america just to visit your museum nothing else but your museum the most interesting place in america the bible of motocross is the best book i have read a non fiction no nonsense book
You guys are living the dream out there 👍💪 awesome old school bike for sure 😃 some day soon we’ll come out and visit the museum 🗽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 keep up the good work
Back in 1983 my pops drove me to his pals Honda shop. While I was walking around the back of the shop I saw this KX 420. Dad and his pals told me I could ride it if I could start it. I was 13 years old and they didnt think I could start it . Well I got it started and did a few wheelies with it and that bad boy came home with me...lol I cant count how many holes I got in my tennis shoes..haha Now I'm 52 and just had hip reconstructive surgery and would still love to throw a leg over that bike.. The other big bores I had was a husky 420 auto and a maiico 380. I loved my KX
All your bikes are great, but this is a stunning piece of art! I can remember back in the day, looking at my dirt bike magazine dreaming of being big enough to ride a bike like this. Love it!
Wow......team geen allday.. the old hondas are cool but this kx is unreal. Reminds me of a kdx 80 i had in the mid 80s. Same tank graphics. Unreal how this is a tru barnfind. Thanks a bunch. And yes we love 420....😀✌
Sat on that new bike at manchester honda growing up. Rode one a few years at manchester drive in loved it as long as the motor mounts and other parts are loctite it will run forever it's a short revving freight train
Hey I was 15 n my local Yamaha dealer was going too sell a 80 leftover 465 to me for $1;600.00 $800.00 down n pay the remaining. Balance no co sifnerr or collateral cause no one would buy it then a buddy of mine got it for his 18th birthday what a beast. It got smashed up against a boulder blind sighted. N sold after bit for $900.00 as is. Leaked oil a bit
@@alfred.monaco1996 cool I remember reading a article on them that the mid range hit so hard people was falling off that why they detune them in 81 I like them cause they was six speed personal I own two 1985 TRI-z 1984 atc70 one yz got a 1986 yz with working exhaust valve thank for story
I need to be re educated on my KX knowledge KAP. I thought the 420's had the cool ass rear fender that had the number plates made into the actual fender itself. Beautiful bike.
Awesome I too only 420. Came out of the crate atrociously jetted.. main. Needle and pilot. Unless you played with the carb I don't think most owners actually knew what they had. Explosive power on top end !!!
Just another comment always thought it was funny the tank and number plates were a different color glad to see it came like that paid 400 for the one I had
I use to have a 1981 kx 420 many years ago. I miss her very much I looking for another kx 420 how.much are you asking for this kx 420 I'm interested please contact me
Anybody remember the KX125 in the 1970s with something like a rotary Reed valve induction? Did not need to rev to get on the pipe but handled like a go-kart, felt like it had zero suspension.
I don't smoke but I'm sure some would need a 420 break after getting off that machine. I rode an 1980 RM 125 at that time. Last year for dual shocks and air cooled.
My friend had one. So I took it for a rip down the street 🔥🔥 hold on this was an animal of a different kind not my 500 dr. 😂😂 4 gears wheels were up. 👍
How do you explain it?,...They rode it. The early KX 450, 420, 500 etc. are bikes that can put the fear of all that is holy into the most seasoned rider,....that is because they know their limits, and that class of KX will take those riders there and beyond,... Looks like it was a beyond owner who knew they had best keep it shiny and live to tell. I had the 1974 KX450, hammerhead shocks, plastic tank, (they made about 200?) and rode it into the ground,....(a few times) They will really command a respectful approach from any rider who is wise enough to comply. The issue most found with the 450 was plenty of power but too little handling with the 3'' and 4'' wheel travel,a prescription for certain death if you dared ignore the shortcomings. I would be interested in how that 420 handles as it is dialed down in cc but has better suspension plus benefits from more years of research + development. Once you know where that threshold is,..its off to the races,...looks like that was the year Kawasaki found it. Great Bikeand Video.. Long Live Two Stroke KX Big Bores!!!
Don't twist that throttle too hard on those nice polished floors. I may be old but I still miss air cooled 2 strokes - noodle handlebars and everything.

My dad bought me a 1979 KX80 for Christmas and two years later traded it in on a 1981 KX80 man those were great bikes wish I still had one or both
@@sdime9858 I know I had the honda sl 125 the dt 175mx and the kawasaki kl250 loved them all same here mate
I had a KDX 175 1981 Same tank decals, but that is phenomenal. True museum piece. God bless

Now I wasn't even thinking about that other 420💭🤪 until you mentioned it 😂
That right there is one ultra rare beast !!!
Beautiful bike, just acquired an 82 kx250 to go with my 82 kx80. You guys pipes always look new what paint do you guys use on them?

83 & 84 KX 500 had the fender with number plates 85 KX 500 went back to the traditional fender
KX 80 D2 1982 definitely had the number plate rear gaurd!

Not many around, hard to get parts for and Kawasaki released it before development was optimised.
IMO one of theeeeeeeeeeeee rarest and coolest.
Team green! Awesome specimen, sounds great.
I love my kdx 420, they are awesome bikes.
Didn’t Lackey help develop that bike while racing the GP’s for Kawasaki? Just something about bikes from that era, they all had their own unique look.
I was a big fan of Brad Lackey especially when he was on the Honda RC 500.
Just another comment always thought it was funny the tank and number plates were a different color glad to see it came like that paid 400 for the one I had
The 420 might be significant to some of you guys for different reasons lmao
I want one just for that reason
I did not know kawi made a 420. Sick bike
Wow that’s insane my color too👍🏻

I had one of Those, they have a tendency to break the clutch shafts that year. I replaced it myself, it ripped.
Hey Kenny there's no riding your bike in the house LOL
Stunning bike
Never realized Kawasaki did a special Snoop Dogg edition back in the days.
420 😁
25 years after my last MX race I was doing chauffeur work.
Snoop was the first celebrity I drove and yes he passed it to me.
Where can I find a rear brake pedal tension spring for a 78 Elsinore 250
