Steve, I enjoy watching your repair vids. What a cool car collection you have as seen 33:51. What a great way to spend your time repairing your tractor during the winter while your service truck is out of commission.

Steve it must be tough being out of commission for so long awaiting a new truck but these videos in the meantime are terrific, really interesting to see you bring these John Deere’s back to life.

The B series was from '83 to '86. The '87s had the P series engine. You could also have the broken mount tig welded. JD used to sell a ring gear and you would cut off the old ring gear from the flywheel, then put the new ring gear into a 200° oven for an hour or two, while the flywheel is in the freezer. The ring gear will slip right on and once both pieces are to room temp. they are bonded.

onan is known to have valve seats come loose usually from overheating most reason was the shroud packed full of dirt & grass also one of the first thing to be discarded when new was the oil filter to shroud gasket people didn’t think it was necessary because they were hard to put back on after the oil change, you need all the air you can get to keep them cool

Seen my fair share of cam bearings go out. Or Mains, then wiping out the magnets inside the flywheel.

I have currently the same prob with my 318 and already have the b pan and starter on the way, I’m a little pissed because I bought the 318 2 weeks ago than about a week into my ownership a cranked it up and a big bang the aftermarket starter had the top crack off and caused the block to crack. I have a really special connection with 318’s my grandfather owns one and it it’s the first thing I learned to drive at about 7 years old and I have just turned 16

I found Part 2 video and decided to see where we ended up on motor swap vs weld and retap ..... You just made me a nervous wreck putting the pan base on! Lol ... If that would've been me, I would've pulled the the threads or stripped them clear out.
I don't know how you find these low hour 318s. ... usually I find them with 1800+ hrs.
Great idea on the firewall. I've read that this insulation is critical with the motor so close to the battery.

Enjoy the videos. Your good at research, as when I fix something, it’s always direct replacement. I just don’t have the patience. Had to have a gas hot water tank installed, I did half the work to speed it up. Part of me wishes I did it myself, but I prefer to not do gas plumbing, and want the permit for gas appliances. Also, be up on new earthquake strapping rules. The guy actually said to me, your knowledgeable, why not do it yourself when prepped everything for me. My response was insurance since I don’t mess with gas. What surprised me, he was gonna use Sharkbite. I balked, so he had to get out fittings and his torch. I am glad supply valve changed and all new copper flex. We don’t hard pipe appliances here.

For my Lawn Tractor, when I needed parts, I’d pull them off, and read the number on the part. Usually it was on the side you couldn’t see while the part was attached. Would go on the Internet with the part number. Got parts for a fraction of the dealers price. Replaced the PTO Clutch, Starter and Steering Gear this way. PTO Clutch was also used on a Skid Steer.

On Briggs and Stratton Engines, they used to make an Electronic Ignition that snaps on the Coil and it comes with a cap to plug the pionts plunger. They really run good with an Electronic Ignition on them.

Oh, I’d like to know what brand of basket strainers you use. Looks much better than what I have, and I’m tired of changing the wimpy O-ring every year. Your UA-cam response for the Rigid tool helped me greatly on changing kitchen faucet. Also, videos on In-sink-erator made that change super easy. Thanks Steve! I was trained by electricians and plumbers while growing up, but forget some things since don’t do that often. It takes me most of the day to do what you can in an hour and half. Oh, toilet flange repair videos saved me a lot.

Strongly recommend you check what the manufacturer recommended torque on your fasteners, and obviously go get you a torque wrench. Can't overemphasize utilizing correct torque values since in some cases, overtorque can lead to several self-initiated problems which are easily precluded.
