Awesome! Romania in general is such an amazing country. This was Olena's 2nd time visiting and my 3rd time. We just can't get enough. Thanks for watching!
1:06 Although Ceaușescu was indeed president from 1974 to his his ousting and execution in 1989, he had de facto been in power already since 1965, succeeding Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej as General Secretary of the Communist Party. Creating the office of president was merely another reflection of Ceaușescu's megalomania and sense of grandour.

So you spent your teenage years in the worst possible period of Romanian communism, and yet it was “faaar better". Let me refresh your memory: food stamps, long queues in front of empty grocery stores, 2 hours of TV - mostly showing the exploits of the one and only Ceaușescu, endless blackouts, almost non-existent medical care, no birth control available, cold apartments, cold classrooms, overcrowded buses, no pollution control, no gasoline, etc. I have to admit, though, that oranges and bananas tasted great. Because I ate a few every couple of years.
A nostalgic without logic. Romania today is at its best of its entire history and this coming from a 63 year old man who lived in both regimes and I agree no regime is perfect but c’mon! Of course if you watch the local news 24/7 you’re getting brainwashed and depressed.
I spent a week in Bucharest last year, and it was nice!
