    Timisoara is an amazing city! The architecture is stunning-there are a lot of old buildings that need restorations, once they're completed, this could become one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Plus if you have a sweet tooth like I do, this particular city has the best deserts I've ever had in my entire life- after visiting 20+ countries. They're not too sweet, so you can actually taste and really savor all the ingredients and flavors-fruits, spices, etc. Try papanasi (a romanian special donut-trust me American donuts have nothing on these ones-and I'm an American), profiterol, cozonac, amandina, salam de biscuiti, savarina, all cakes with chocolate or fruits. I"ve lived here for the past 8 months or so- I read somewhere that is on top 5 safest cities in all Europe, and I feel that way - I love this city!

    • @Monas99
      @Monas99 11 місяців тому +1

      @@miklos3289 these shops come to my mind right now, but most desert shops =aka cofetaria ( in Romanian) carry these popular deserts. Right now the ones that come to mind are: Codrina- my absolute favorite- everything they do is top notch, super high quality- all their cakes are amazing, including the cozonac. Then Andalusia, Trandafirul. La Focacerria doesn't do all traditional sweets I mentioned in my prior comment but they're very good as well. Right next to Focacceria is one of my favorites ice cream shops - Pomo D' oro. Papanasi you'll find only at restaurants as it's always made fresh right before it's served. The restaurant Miorita in Unirii Square makes very good papanasi. If i remember other cofetaria shops ill add them later on the comments. If uou like ice cream- these 3 ice cream shops are my favorite- Grazia, Zanoni, Pomo Doro, Chantia. Enjoy!

    I grew up in Chicago, and cabbage rolls are an important part of the Polish and German cuisine in Chicago. Also Middle Eastern cuisine, where they are thought to have originated. I learned to make them decades ago. Yes, they contain meat, some rice---minced veggies, spices, etc.. They are stuffed, rolled up--and simmered in a sauce. DELICIOUS! I was happy to see them on your plate at the start of the video. A reminder to me that I need to make them again--everybody loves them.

      Are there any abandoned castles or older churches out in the countryside areas? Abandoned mansions? Are the Carpathian mtns huge enough to get lost in?

    • @andykata4249
      @andykata4249 11 місяців тому +5

      @@jacksondrake-lost well ... yes and yes and yes. Due to its rich history, Romania has indeed a lot of old churches, castles and other fortified buildings (including some amazing fortified churches or monasteries). A lot of ruins too, some on top of steep hills or mountains with some utterly amazing views all around. There was a guy on UA-cam camping overnight in some of them, really amazing (and sometimes terrifying) videos, sadly I don't remember his channel, should be easy enough to find though. If going deep in the countryside and remote areas, one will surely have the chance to find such places. Abandoned mansions too, especially in Transylvania, where former Hungarian, Austrian or German owners emigrated decades ago. as for the Carpathian Mountains, they are the second longest chain in Europe, with heights reaching in Romania over 2500 m, believe me that you can (and some in fact do) get lost and/or have a more or less friendly meeting with bears, wolves, wild cats and so on. As long as you avoid the well known resorts you can wander for days without seeing another human, if that is what you wish. But be careful what you wish for! 😀 As always, Google and UA-cam are your friends to find more, but the reality is that Romania is indeed a beautiful country, with a varied geography, fauna and flora, and, as us, Romanian say, too bad that it is populated (just joking, people are nice and welcoming too). To not mention the food, it alone might make you think about staying there for good. 👌Romania has a lot to offer, from super modern areas and shopping centres all the way to old, time forgotten, remote and sometimes strange and mystique places. From a tourist's point of view the transportation from place to place can sometimes be tricky or not so pleasant (in terms of state of roads, railroads and the vehicles or trains themselves), but nothing insurmountable and sometimes just part of the adventure. Hope you'll visit Romania soon and enjoy it as you should!

    Hi Gabriel, It's a really nice city tour of the city. You're right, this town and many places like it have a major upswing on where it's heading. Eastern Europe is going through a renaissance. It's budget-friendly now, but this is going to change in the near future. It's really modernizing on the go and a reason I'm saying that is the trolleys there are becoming more modern. The trolleys were such a big part of American society many cities did away with them, but they have become trendy again in many American cities again.

      Hahahaha, am fost in Cluj-Napoca. Un oras mult supraevaluat. Another level ? Evaluarea unui oras consta in mostenirea istorica pe care o are acesta: cladiri, zona centrala, pietonale, piete, etc. tocmai de aceea Timisoara a castigat Capitala Cultural Europeana 2023 si nu Clujul.
      Cat despre Oradea, da, e frumoasa, dar haide totusi sa pastram proportiile comparative si sa nu ne aruncam la cuvinte mari.
      Sincer iti spun am plecat cu ideea de a vedea schimbarile majore din Cluj pe care nu l mai vazusem de 10 ani de zile. Din pacate a fost dezamagitor. Cu siguranta stau mai bine ca Timisoara la marketing si publicitate, niciodata la frumusete.
      O seara buna !

Romania have beautiful mountains, history, seaside, Danube delta which it s quite unique in Europe, Dracula s legend, Transilvania s legends and it s old villages on the mountains and so on. To take but one example, when you mention AQUA as a Latinate / Romance language instance that has found its way into many English words, we have at the same time Greek ὕδωρ (húdōr) w/ English variations of HYDRATE, HYDROLOGY etc.

    Cabbage rolls are good. We used to make them at Prost. German cooperate bar in Portland and seattle and Bend.
    But. Bald and Bankrupt was in Romania last year. He ate a deli near a transit center. It was maybe the worst meal he ever had. The whole trip was horrendous food he couldn't eat.
    God Bald and Bankrupt does such a great job at getting is involved and interested in the history. The Romanian trip last year was very very short but he went to the famous spots of the revolution. I had no idea about the Romanian revolution in 1989 and the prime minister and his wife shot. Good history lesson.
