John Mayer - Something's Missing

- This is "Something's Missing" taken from John Mayers performance on the RAVE channel. This is by far my favourite song. The Horns & Sax add much more depth musically to this awesome song. (I have updated this video, the sound quality & video quality should be much better than the Original one I posted.)
On his 'Any Given Thursday' DVD John took this tune up a notch and played it at a faster pace, but on this version he slowed the tempo, and mellowed it out. The Drummer JJ Johnson adds a whole new dimension to the song with his 'Animal' attack. Give the drummer some. David Labruyere, always the coolest bass player that he is. John Mayer is the real deal. His live shows are phenomenal.
I love john mayer his voice and man can he play a guitar! A lot of people don't know how good of a guitar player he really is! He'll go down as being one of the best! plays a lot blues too!
Beautiful vintage John Mayer. He’s classic and current at the same time. A true timeless genius. I love it. I love him forever
One of the few people left in the world who has true soul. Great tune, Great groove.
this is unbelievable- my favourite version by far
I like this performance a lot, the slow intro really sets the mood well.
This man is AMAZING live. He gets so into it!
You post this 2006? And it still beutiful nowadays. Epic...
Never really been a fan of John Mayer until recently...I'm a journalist and write about street fashion which he's a huge fan of. I started listening to his music and it's very addicting...GREAT,GREAT TUNE!
quite simply put..this music is the reason i fell for john mayer..it is so purely beautiful and true..keep sharing john!
This is the best live version of Somethings Missing
High class.
A very high quality performance indeed.
Kudos to JM.
Took me 14 years to come here..mayer is a musical magician..
Can we appreciate dela bass support here?, omygod the greatest band set john mayer has ever had here
Thanks AnthemicPolemic I dropped by and took another listen to this beautiful tune, have a great day and thanks for commenting so I pulled this up after a fun day celebrating my birthday early. : -) and floated in Heaven a little while before bedtime.
I think this is his best song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at the way he uses his thumb in the intro groove part! His thumb is huge. What a cool groove in the beginning.
Superb, just superb!
had to listen to this on my way to work today. It is just amazing and it is like he wrote what was on my mind. The greats do that.
DUDE... this is awesome, i love this guy
Aren't you, paigerocks884 glad ALL musicians are not alike? Just love John's mellow voice, jamming and a fantastic tune that makes you "DREAM". Nancy
For sure.
he´s got real soul in his music...
Another great one by one of the best
the guitars both were sounded amazing!
he actually sounds like that in almost every single one of his earlier performances and still does it every now and then. he's said before that he loses concentration on his vocals and the lisp just comes out.
john's response to this song- born and raised. wow...what a difference between heavier things and his new stuff.
He is in a completely different place in pair with other artists
This is next level
Most people wont ever understand. Hypnotizing music right here
what a huge epic sound he gets from his guitar
Wow - this is an awesome version of such a great song! Thanks for sharing it.. ;o)
13 yrs. Gone
@@mikebell7525 Now 15.
been having a JM week : nostalgia + craving for the songs i don't know/love yet (: cheers !
Only thing that hurts this particular performance is John's lisp when he's singing at various parts. I would so love to see him perform this song today. He's a much better singer now.
i agree but trying to find the balance between singing how it feels good without being sloppy is difficult especially at his young age
His music reaches right into the soul, this version is my fave', makes you come alive and flow with energy. So happy someone shared with me. Peace and Love to all that come to this sight to enjoy. Sax and the beat so awesome in this version shot out messages to give you energy. Thanks John Mayer for sharing your talent and thankyou my new friend for sharing vid with me today. I needed this lift-up in spirit.:-)
John Mayer is said to own over 300 guitars :)
I love the fact he's probably quite wealthy, but doesn't live the shallow way some rich people do.
Rock on Mayer.
thanks for this superb upload
This guy is TREMENDOUSFABULOUS !
Such an awesome groove!
He's live show are the best
I love JM he is the best male talent we have right now
This guy was amazing!
this groove is awesome.
yep, he's a good guitarist, anyone who starts out young in jazz and blues bars and gets accepted by buddy guy and the like is bound to become worthy enough to appreciate. its just that he chose the 'pop music' path early in his career which got him the fame but not the respect that he could have earned with his skills.
Beautiful song love you John Mayer one of kind
Awesome!!! Thanks for posting:)
Grandma Mary
John Mayer é muito bom!!!
Salve Salve John Mayer!!!
yeah i hear that
In Limbo's one of my fav rh songs.
HE'S JAMMIN!!
his guitar at the beginning reminds me of the fixx in the 80's... then he sings and it's all john - great song.
oh god. i love him
haha... this made me chuckle
You tell him.
sort of having john mayer my love of life
I think he mainly uses dumble special overdrive and two rock amplifiers, very hard to find, but this could also be just a fender reverb or so.
So nice playing, that groove!
awesome!!!!!!!!!
absolute genius.
he tunes his guitar to an F# sus chord!!!! who does that!! omg. I try to solo and i forget. This is one of my fave john mayer songs ever.
amazing song
Great video. Yes, the intro sounds nice. If you know how to play the song, the intro in this video is just a variation of the chorus fingerings but just with the lower (E and B) strings.
damn It! he's one of the greatest already... come to Mexico MAyer!!
favorite version of this song!
Dat groove......
love the groovy intro!
4:42 my favorite!
I prefer min 6:35 - 6:3:7. The sound, taken as a self-illuminated reference, strongly points at the muliti-climactic ability of this guitarist.
@nickluna5995
Lol he can just have chosen the lower pickups to catch the sound and then you get that exact sound (of course with the delay too) it's pretty simple, but that is definetely not a tele!
And sorry i didn't read your full message before answering... yeah it dosen't really matter cause it sounds awesome!
He's just smart at that point. He's well known because he play (meaningful) pop and respected because of his blues background.
JM didn't lose anything.
I see hes playin a hybrid fender tele/strat
@RideLXbindings are you sure? it looks like both haha but it sounds like a tele
@RideLXbindings look at how the top of the guitar doesn't have the fin that jutts out-it goes back down to the neck. That's a tele body. However, the knobs and pickguard are similar to a strat setup...weird.
I agree with JiggaBoxx - JM is a Motown voice and hands trapped in a skinny little white boy's body. Much respect to Motown and JM. I wanna be like that when I grow up [im 23]
i agree!
what guitar is that it's like a strat with tele form???
@MysticGrant same pickups as his signature Strat...such a sweet strat!
my god that beginning always seems to make me move my head
friends, check
money, check
well slept, check
opposite sex, check
guitar, check
microphone, check
messages waiting on me, when i come home...
love that part... xD
Are you still alive? How are the kids?
The Trio bring the song to a whole different level. PINO+STEVE+JOHN=FUCKIN SICK!!!!!
this is pure bliss... pure fucking bliss
its a hybrid!
a hell of a lot
IMO, if John Mayer is not more popular it is because when women listen to him, he becomes the one they desire. And that's threatening to their men. I mean, who wants to be a fall back guy to *THIS MAN*?
what's impressive is that he created that intro/groove at the very start with the already very weird tuning :P
haha
i love your dry sarcasm
whoa! hook me up. buddy and john are always nice together
@Hikki4Life fender produced a stratocaster telecaster model a while ago, i dont think its very popular.. i only knew about it cause last week i looked up the fender custom shop page
That tele-strat hybrid definitely has his big dipper pickups in it, sounds so good. Anyone know what pedals he's using?
Autumn 2019?
1:40-1:43 first glimpse thought it was JAck Johnson
he definitely doesn't have a lisp. that must be something with the mic, because I've never heard him sound like that in any other performance
that's true in most of his acoustic pieces, but tunes like "something's missing" and "neon" requires incredibly odd tunings. just an FYI.
@MattyFingersify Yeah, It's delay. I couldn't think of the right word and yep it is delay.
@nickluna5995 yea its 100% a stratocaster, but i see what you mean how it sounds different. He probably has his guitar on the bridge switch position to get that sound. But yea its a strat ;)
@MattyFingersify Just an echo effect.
is john mayer wearing retainers in this vid?
Great song, great player.
i love the tele
i love the strat
that thing looks a lil strange
but cool idea i guess
@siskjoey pause at 0:12 or 0:26. A telecaster looks nothing like that. See how it has the 3 single coil pick ups and switch knob plus the way the pickguard looks? look up any strat and then look up a tele and you'll notice the difference ;)
@nickluna5995 lol true it does sound cool but Strats "do look like that" and this song is in a different tuning which gives it that kind of sound. Anyways ;) happy playing.
haha i like the head bobbing
i believe it to be a jaguar or a mustang or possibly a jagstang? idk
fair point. i do think mayer care way too much about the crowd, but his roots were playing hendrix and srv stuff in small clibs and jazz bars. but i do agree the crowd has somewhat eclipsed that
it is possible that it is a tele, but it looks a hell of alot like a strat, and people saying you can't produce this sound from a strat are wrong... It happens that fender (and any other company) produces oddly shaped models of current ones.. I mean Hendrix played a strat too, but sometime used one that looked like an Ibanez (still with the plate on though, to give it the strat look)
Actually it was of a torrent I found a while back. Send me a PM and i'll try to send you the link. There is a nice collab with Buddy Guy in it.
