  • This is "Something's Missing" taken from John Mayers performance on the RAVE channel. This is by far my favourite song. The Horns & Sax add much more depth musically to this awesome song. (I have updated this video, the sound quality & video quality should be much better than the Original one I posted.)

    On his 'Any Given Thursday' DVD John took this tune up a notch and played it at a faster pace, but on this version he slowed the tempo, and mellowed it out. The Drummer JJ Johnson adds a whole new dimension to the song with his 'Animal' attack. Give the drummer some. David Labruyere, always the coolest bass player that he is. John Mayer is the real deal. His live shows are phenomenal.

    Only thing that hurts this particular performance is John's lisp when he's singing at various parts. I would so love to see him perform this song today. He's a much better singer now.

    yep, he's a good guitarist, anyone who starts out young in jazz and blues bars and gets accepted by buddy guy and the like is bound to become worthy enough to appreciate. its just that he chose the 'pop music' path early in his career which got him the fame but not the respect that he could have earned with his skills.

  • @oliverandm
    @oliverandm 14 років тому

    @nickluna5995
    Lol he can just have chosen the lower pickups to catch the sound and then you get that exact sound (of course with the delay too) it's pretty simple, but that is definetely not a tele!
    And sorry i didn't read your full message before answering... yeah it dosen't really matter cause it sounds awesome!

  • @siskjoey
    @siskjoey 14 років тому

    @RideLXbindings look at how the top of the guitar doesn't have the fin that jutts out-it goes back down to the neck. That's a tele body. However, the knobs and pickguard are similar to a strat setup...weird.

    that's true in most of his acoustic pieces, but tunes like "something's missing" and "neon" requires incredibly odd tunings. just an FYI.

    @siskjoey pause at 0:12 or 0:26. A telecaster looks nothing like that. See how it has the 3 single coil pick ups and switch knob plus the way the pickguard looks? look up any strat and then look up a tele and you'll notice the difference ;)

  • @RideLXbindings
    @RideLXbindings 14 років тому

    @nickluna5995 lol true it does sound cool but Strats "do look like that" and this song is in a different tuning which gives it that kind of sound. Anyways ;) happy playing.

    fair point. i do think mayer care way too much about the crowd, but his roots were playing hendrix and srv stuff in small clibs and jazz bars. but i do agree the crowd has somewhat eclipsed that

  • @oliverandm
    @oliverandm 14 років тому

    it is possible that it is a tele, but it looks a hell of alot like a strat, and people saying you can't produce this sound from a strat are wrong... It happens that fender (and any other company) produces oddly shaped models of current ones.. I mean Hendrix played a strat too, but sometime used one that looked like an Ibanez (still with the plate on though, to give it the strat look)
