    I chose the doorbell. I have read some say the woman needed to let go, move on, and not give her father a second chance, but this was never about him getting a second chance, it was about her. She needed answers, she needed a conclusion, she needed to get all of this out of her system. She took an entire walk on the beach, reminicing over the past, just to gather the courage to step on the man’s porch. Changing her mind and leaving for the car, would have made that all for nothing. I didn’t do it for him to give him a second chance, I did it for her, for the above reasons. A family was torn apart, and simply “letting the past be the past and letting go” wouldn’t have mended the wound. She would have lived the rest of her life regretting not getting answers.
    We had a long running tv program here in my country that roughly translated to “up and vanished”. Each episode was about a grown up desperately searching for their missing relative (mom or dad), not because they necessarily wanted to give the person who ran from their lives at a young age a second chance, because they, like this woman, longed for answers.
    If my dad just up and left I would be angry yes, but I would still want an explanation.

      I love your explanation of the "door bell" ending!
      Initially, I saw the "leave" ending as okay. I've heard some people say that sometimes, confronting the people who might've hurt you isn't a good idea. Because there's a chance that you are giving the person power over you to open up wounds and further hurt you. Sometimes, living well is truly the best revenge.
      But you put it in a different perspective: it's not her mother she's seeking in the story, it's her father. It would be one thing if she tried confronting her mother because it's implied that she wasn't a good parent, so there's no use seeking reconciliation with her. But her father's the real mystery, the one whose side of the story she doesn't know.
      He's the key to her closure. And perhaps, hearing his side of the story can help her understand how to be a better parent to her unborn child.

    I think there's some symbolism to the chess piece; I think the father disapproved of the main character being interested in dancing, so that was the cause of many of the fights and the father walked out because he would rather run away from the family than try to make it work out. That wasn't the only cause of the fights, in the paper airplane memory, you will notice that the brother is making paper airplanes out of pages that were ripped from the father's books, this makes the father try to lash out harder than he should.

      Yeah I definitely will! So far it's incredible. Being able to look up at the towering structures or the monster in front of you is amazing.
      Also there was a certain point where the princess slid down a yellow path. The camera would change to make it so she slid right by you and it was such a thrill.
      Anyway, as I said I'll get back to you once I'm done and I look forward to your video!

    okay so granted: i have not played this game. I've only watched this video, and Dan on Extra Play play up until episode 3. But in my mind at least, the Father doesn't actually seem like a bad guy, i haven't seen any evidence of him being abusive or evil beyond leaving the family. In the chess-scene, we see the father playing chess with his children, and while the "monster" character seemed to be doing so angrily, i see no anger or rage on the father's face during their game
    Later, we see the "Savior" character look into a box and get blasted by some smoke, leaving him in pain, and waking the formerly sleeping "monster" who rushes to his aid, obviously stricken with grief, before carrying the "Savior" away in his arms. We see this reflected in the memory, the boy is tipping over a pot of hot soup, and the father is sleeping on the couch, all while the mother is not paying attention and watching TV.
    Finally, look at 5:45 in this video. The Mother is CLEARLY the aggressor in this scene, angrily ripping off her necklace and shouting, while the father has his hands up defensively and a look of fear on his face. Given all of this, i would think it safe to assume that it's the mother, not the father who is the true monster, and eventually the Father couldn't take it any more and left. Since the daughter stayed with her mother, her own thoughts and opinions on her father were skewed, making him out to be the villain, when in reality he was a caring father-figure fed up with an abusive wife.
    i dunno, again i haven't played / finished watching the entire game, so this may be moot eventually, but that's just what I've taken out of it so far.

      TamTroll I just finished the game and from my first impressions I agree. The mother IF anyone seems at fault.

    • @Worsteverything
      @Worsteverything 6 років тому +8

      i think they are clearly both at fault. if the mother was so abusive and the father a good guy, the father would have tried his hardest to get full custody of his kids. there are scenes where the mom is fucked up but also scenes where the dad is.

    • @TamTroll
      @TamTroll 6 років тому

      fair enough. the game seems to try and pit most of the blame on the father though

    • @inquisitorphillipe8187
      @inquisitorphillipe8187 6 років тому +5

      I think what you guys missed is that the girl try to reunite with her father, wich means that she lived with her mother, and at the beginning of the game, it's the Princess's mother that tells us that their is a monster, so the monster is built by the mother, what we discover playing the game is that the "monster" never really attacks us, every time he could have hurt the Princess, he just didn't. There are no really bad guy in the story, just interpretations. As the dad is not a monster, the mother is kind of cold and not very caring for the Princess, so I think it's just the girl's interpretation that present him as a monster. In the souvenirs he doesn't seem to be a monster, he is made one by the mother and the time the girl spent with the sorrow of her mother. In the end we don't even know if when the monster says "Because I could" is his real words or just the idea that the mother has let the girl believe.
      I loved this game so f'ing much !

      @TamTroll 6 років тому +2

      Oh yeah i totally caught that Arto. We do see the mother and the monster fighting at times though, and there are scenes where the monster seems to be yelling. so it's likely the two parents fought every so often.

    I had been putting this game off for way too long. Buying it on launch because of the unique artstyle and the intriquing concept of controlling a dancer, but I never got very far in the first stage for whatever reason. I always meant to go back to it, and having just finished it before I watched this video, I am glad I did. I wasn’t initially sure how the three narratives related/were connected - the beach, the memories, and the dream world - but when we learned that the dream world was the manifestation of the childlike drawings in her notebook, it all made sense to me, and I then became very invested trying to piece it all together.
    Great and emotional story that really makes you think, superb artstyle, unique concept in general, but a bit lacking in the gameplay department, as many platform sections have an easy shortcut.

    Your explanation sort of made sense but I never really cared for the scenes with pregnant woman I just never really understood it but what I think is the mother and the father simply had a bad marriage and the girl blamed herself and her bother basically calmed her by say it's not I don't think the father just walked out I believe it was more of he got sick of the fighting between himself and the mother.

    Can you explain the memory which the parents are neglecting the kids and hot food is pouring down to the brother's face please? It's been bothering me for ages. I've looked for at least a mark on his face during other memories but no, nothing. As if nothing happened.

    • @NIKMOE
      @NIKMOE  6 років тому

      It's been a while since I've played the game but from my memory... The hot food pouring on the brothers face is just a painful memory for the main character (the pregnant woman/ballerina). When she was a kid her parents were not paying attention to her brother, and her brother managed to knock a pot off a stove and badly burn himself.
      As she gets older she realizes this painful memory is because of her father, and how he neglected his children. This is why at the (SPOILERS) climax of the game you can choose to never confront her father. You can leave the beach and the father will never be in her children's future. Thus, breaking the cycle of neglect and pain.
      Hope that clears things up!
