I stopped around 452 moons. I know I could've collected more but I enjoyed my time enough with this game. Its REALLY fun and probably the best Mario game I ever played.
124 Moons: The best finale song in any Mario game alongside a humorous moment with Mario, Bowser, and Peach - roll credits. 500 Moons: Two difficult challenges that end with a heartwarming message from Cappy while you climb a replica of New Donk City Hall. 880 Moons: A secret final bout with Bowser, amped up to 11, plus a commemorative postcard at the end - roll credits. 999 Moons: Literally just a top hat on the Princess' castle.
actually if you capture everything on the capture list, buy every outfit, collect all moons and buy all purple coin items you get a gold star on your save file.
Like in super mario bros ds where if you beat and unlocked all the levels, collected every single golden coin and got all the backgrounds you woupd get 3 stars on your save file (i was actually so obsessed with this game i wanted to also reach the maximum amoumt of point, which was worthless but also extremely hard to reach a number like 99999999, i unfortunately never did cause my ds broke but whatever)
The 999-moon reward smacks of 'bookending'. A giagantic tophat is one of the first things you see in the game and it's one of the last. And the music and fireworks are the very last rewards in the game, and the very first in the first true Mario series platformer.
Would’ve been interesting if at the very end, the screen zooms out into a book and Rosalina closes it and says “and that was the story of Mario’s Odyssey.”
What could have been cool is that if you collect 993 moons, then a painting appears in peach's castle that takes you to a remake of bob-omb battlefield and you can collect 6 more moons from the original stars.
This crazy concept of flexible game content with more stuff to do after the ending is what we used to call "a game". Now everything is an early-access beta for two years, then you have to pay extra on top of the $60 to get more content.
+TearBothEyesOut Never thought about that when writing this video... Sad but true point! Thankfully there are still games like Odyssey out there that provide a "full" experience from a single purchase.
Jinku Knight well if the whole game is canon, then you would need to restart the last save or the whole game in general unless you will go without Capps whenever you play again
During my first playthrough, I made it to the second ending. When I played through the game a second time, I did absolutely everything and got the final ending. I got every moon, I maxed out my moon counter, I got every purple coin, I bought every outfit, and I ranked level 50 in balloon world. The thing is though is that when I started that playthrough, I only planned to reach the first ending before moving on; a mere re-experience. But I got so hooked that I just couldn't stop. Every ounce of that 100% completion run was fun and when all was said and done, I still wanted to keep playing! No other video game has ever made me feel that way. I loved Breath of the Wild, but I will never collect all 900 koroks. When I play my favorite game of all time, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, I still don't do the hard mode or time trials. Super Mario Odyssey is so special because of this distinction.
I try to do this level of completion for every game I play. And having done this to a few hundred games over the past 30 years I must say Mario Odyssey is not in my top ten games that keep you hooked. It's a good game, but it get really grindy really fast...
@@karenvictorias.bautista1541 it’s pretty easy to reach The Dedicated Completionist. Just play Balloon World a bunch of times until you get about 12,000 coins playing that, then buy moons until you reach 999
"Hopefully you've gotten the chance to play through oddesy your self" Well...after 3 years I finally got it from Santa this Christmas, and well I'm just happy to finally play it, I've watched lots of people play it and I know how good it was and I knew what I was expecting, I knew how a lot of the game went, I just finished the game about 15 minutes ago, it was so fun, and as Great as I expected, it truly is an amazing game and I loved playing it, and when I said I finished it I finished the first ending, I finished the first ending within 2 days because it's a relatively short game, only 15 hours or so but you can definitely do it within 2-3 days, or if you have enough time, less then a day, but my dad's on the tv a lot so I don't really have time to play it as much as I want, and the switch does die every 3 hours or so, so I have to wait for it charge before I can play it more, but I fully expect on playing and finishing the last 3 endings no matter how long it takes, I will go as far as I need to, I'm gonna finish the last ending, get tons of coins and buy all the outfits, and even play balloon world, they're a lot left for me to do but I'm excited to do the rest, and I cannot wait to finish this game, all ending, welp I'll edit this comment once I finish The Whole game, see you in maybe a few months! "Understanding Mario Odyssey's Multiple Endings." I love how they imply this is a serious story that could have multiple outcomes, even though the main plot only has one real ending. XD
The Nintendo team really outdid themselves on odyssey, the best edition yet in the Mario series, I really respect the time and effort that went into the game
Fifth Ending: The Legend Every purple coin in every kingdom. All costumes bought. All 999 Moons. Lv 50 in Luigi's Balloon World Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy *fully beaten*
@@MULM Just finished SMS. Level 48 and 80 stars on SMG with Luigi. Three SMO files complete (I speedrun the game), thinking of doing a fourth with max moons before defeating Bowser.
There’s also, in my opinion, is having everything be a gold star. Collecting every collectable, moons, stickers, captures, costumes, songs and regional coins. I have personally done all that, and I don’t have anything else to do. Just waiting on that Luigi mini game and the new costumes.
Wait, you said the minimum moons for the regular end is ONE EIGHTH OF THE GAME, and it gives us a "the princess is in another castle?" Very clever Nintendo. Veeeery clever.
I enjoyed this video and have just recently achieved the 3rd and 4th ending. While there is not a 5th and 6th ending, I do think there are 2 more types of players. There is the "Challenge Enthusiast". In addition to the 4 endings, the challege enthusiast looks at every high place and tries to somehow get on top of it. Some of these places have secret coin stashes. The ultimate is the massive tower at the beginning of darker side. (Yes, it is posdible, but it is very, very hard.) And then the last one I would call the "Ultimate Completionist" who insists on not just buying all if the soveniers (which you need for some Toadette Moons) but also buys every single possible outfit and then does the final boss fight again and again in different outfits to see what comment Bowser makes about how you are dressed. Thanks again!
There’s also two additional endings. One, you never play the game, and Bowser marries Peach. Two, you beat the game and never plays for years, and Mario becomes missing. Which the second ending leads to the sequel of Super Mario Odyssey, in which Luigi is the star of the game, known as “Mario is Missing!”
I beaten darker side as soon as i Reached after 500 Power Moons- it took a Couple of hours but worth it. Now- all i am doing is speed running it. Most of it is failure though.
There could technically be a fifth ending. The real moon count is over 2000+. If you were to be a super mega completionist you would buy 99 moons at each world. Theres no reward, its just a fun side thing to do. However, this requires so much coin grinding.
It's been years since I've beaten the entire game and experiencing all of the endings. After watching this video today (the time I am writing this), I remembered in nostalgia all of what I did in the game like maxing power moons, purple coins, & buying every outfit. I first beat the game, then collected every power moon in the game (excluding the purchasable ones) and purple coins, then grind out coins by playing in balloon world (which was what I at least knew was the fastest way of collecting coins for me), then buy all of the outfits and remaining amounts of power moons, and complete all of the endings. It was such a fun and fascinating journey of upcoming obstacles contained within the game and it was the best time I've ever felt grateful in my whole gaming and general life. I'm really hoping for Super Mario Odyssey 2! 😊😇
This is one of my all time favorite games. I've gotten the "level 4" ending twice now, once when I first got the game, and again when my switch needed repairs and all my save files were lost. the difference is that this second time around, I only recall looking up about 8 purple coins and maybe 3 moons. This was very satisfying, and theyve made this game much better with the constant updates. The new (ish) luigis balloon world was instrumental in getting the last coins for all the outfits and extra moons needed, and it was actually fun getting them instead of the previous grind. If any of you havent 100% completed this game, I highly recommend it as it is one of the most fun and rewarding things ive done in gaming, and the game is much more accessible to do so now.
What about the 5th ending where you still don't want to stop and you start a new save file, where you get more of the secret coin piles, learn how to do cooler jumps and skips, and take on daunting community-made challenges that push your skills to the limits, until you finally, after a number of hours unheard of for a single player game, decide "Alright, I want a break now." This video was cool! Great job!
I was actually expecting one of the endings to be a speedrun ending. Like if you got to the moon in a short enough time, you find that Bowser is still setting up for the wedding and the guests have not arrived yet. The other endings don't disappoint though.
I've been trying tough challenges I see online or make up online, and if I succeed I go buy myself a power moon as a reward. I have 999 already but its still fun to throw them in the Odyssey. Its almost like a Mario Maker perspective. The world is laid out, part of the fun is coming up with new challenged to try.
I have the dedicated completionist ending, but I'm also missing 3 purple coins in Tostarena, 2 in New Donk City, and 3 in Bubblaine. Edit: I now have all the purple coins, and a gold star on my save slot.
I bet you miss the 2 coins in ND City in a wall facing outside the world in the southest section of the west side of the city... in tostarena perhaps are the coins you get hanging in the edge of the world in the southwest area... in bubblaine beats me... there are so many coins hidden in the water that no one is "special"
You forgot endings 5 and 6. 5 is when you have the moon counter at 99 in every Kingdom for the shopping moon (That gives you 2154 moons,) having every regional item and every item in the yellow crazy cap store, and finally having 9999 as your coin count. Ending 6 is doing it on all 8 profiles.
I’m finally getting the 4th ending today, I collected all outfits, moons and almost all purple coins. Really great game Edit: I finally got it I’m going to beat the game again lmao
It's been too long, and Mario Odyssey's end game was still on my mind. Thanks everyone for supporting the channel. EDIT: Looks like I may have said 883 moons for the completion run, instead of 880, whoops!. Thanks to those who pointed it out.
NIKMOE but wait, theres actually 5 endings, the last one being the diehard completionist, collecting every last power moon, every outfit, every last regional coin, maxing everything out to the point there is literally nothing left you can do
All 4 ending: 1. Final kingdom, wedding, you beat bowser. Moons required- 124. Reward- mushroom Kingdom. 2. 250 moons grant you access to the dark side of the moon, 500 to the darker side of the moon. Once you beat this hardest level of the game, your reward is a "thank you" and final words from cappy. 3. Getting 880 moons makes your odyssey turn gold, and grant access to a new bowser painting, the hardest boss fight. If you beat him then the credits will roll once again and you will receive a postcard. 4. Once you buy the rest of the moons and get to 999, you have your final reward- in the Mushroom Kingdom, a hat will appear on top of the castle. If you climb up there you can trigger a cutscene of the castle with fireworks and the end-of-the-level music from the original mario bros.
I did all the endings in this order, but for my last collectable moon(s), I decided to make that darker side's multimoon, which felt fitting and right, I was thinking about getting 998 moons prior to doing that to complete all the 3 truer endings at once where it makes sense to end it in the story before doing the secret boss to truly truly end it but didn't, but that was a matter of buying moons I had the coins for already so I kinda made darker side and the harder bowser fight the remaining levels to complete
Yes, i know complete the fourth ending in the five files, and the game doesn't let you copy files, so... the fifth ending is called, WTF ARE YOU, BEAST!?
I’m late to the party but this game was absolutely amazing! I teared up when Peach’s castle opened up. I spent forever playing Super Mario 64 as a kid just exploring the castle so it was amazing that Nintendo included it in this game 😭
There is technically a fifth ending, with the power moons in the shops. In each kingdom, on the moon list, if you buy more than one moon the number next to 'shopping in kingdom' will increase and max out at 99. The fifth ending is to buy 99 power moons from each kingdom. I'll call this the dangerously addicted ending.
I almost cried when I got the last ending (I am complete try hard) as like he said it’s symbolic and Nintendo has recognised that you truly are a fan, so it means a lot
Honestly I laughed out loud. The tower ending was heartfelt goodbye after hours of marathon gameplay, but I couldn't believe that was it, so I kept playing to do everything I possibly could. When I finally got the fireworks, it felt like the game was saying "okay, fine, good job, you've achieved something, now please go outside. we swear there really is nothing else left to do until Nintendo releases some DLC."
I just finished the first ending while doing the complitionist. Sadly I gave up on the darker side after a long evening of trying it, because I thought there was nothing left to see. But now I'm recharged. After one week I start it again and going for the dedicated complitionist run.
5: Completionist EX All purple coins All moons collected All levels played 6: Hellbringer Completionist EX x5 7: True Dedication Hellbringer x2 8: Infinte Power Hellbringer x5 9: Infinite Dedication Hellbringer x10 10: Infinite Time Still playing baloon world in 2030
0:53 I literally did that, I've been seeing this video in my recommended for months and I finished it today so I've got you 👍 Edit: Guess I'm only a dedicated player then 😐
These, these aren't actual "endings". These are skill thresholds. Multiple endings means that your decisions make a difference in how you end the game, here it's just how far your willing to take it and how much you're willing to see. These are thresholds, not endings.
Its the same with endings to how far you are willing to go to complete the game, To collect things that makes it so you cant continue with something therefore a end of the game.
What about Darker Side? Darker side is the final challenge, and technically the true ending to the game. Because the level itself is the boss battle. Because it's Mario's final hurdle to overcome on his journey.
The ultimate dedicated try hard completionist ending All purple coins Every music track unlocked Every capture All 999 moons All costumes bought end the game with 9999 coins Luigi balloon challenge streak maxed out And that’s sadly me

Sansgamer 124/Will1mac yep, after beating it (not sure of just beating it, or the full game though) go back and it'll say "so... tired" though I don't think it does anything else
Did you know… There's ending 5 called 'Ultimate Completenioist' He knows that he can buy moons even his Oddysey has 999 moons (max. 99). He calls it 'end' after collecting *2154* moons. That's ridicilous! The moon couter says though, it has 999 moons.

@@PlatonicDIVA ---- Lumas doing that was cool and heartbreaking. The real thing about that ending is that like, Bowser caused all that yet again and they simply left him free like wth. -
@@DLBBALL Yeah I know that. But it's way too nonsense. In the 2D games he dies at least, in lava... and then comes back to life (we see that for sure in NSMB)... But like now, in Odissey there's also that ending that is so disappointing, cause it makes literally no sense and it's not even funny imo cause the message is actually wrong but whatever lol...
I think there is a 5th, 6th, and 7th ending as well Ending 5: Maxing out your balloon world rank Ending 6: Buying everything possible from shops and collecting all purple coins Ending 7: Buying 99 moons from each shop. Even though you can’t put them in the Odyssey, you will have approximately 2,147 moons (I think) Just my opinion, if you have any other endings in mind, feel free to reply below.
There Must Be Even More I Guess... Ending 8: For Talking To Peach In All Worlds Ending 9: The Gold Star Ending (Collect All Gold Stars) Ending 10: The All Bosses Ending (Complete All Bosses Including Painting Bosses Like Eyerok And Bowser) There Must Be 11 12 13 14 or 15
Now, there's no ending for them, but the truly dedicated completionist would then collect the max amount of coins, both regional and not. And, finally, those who don't just stop playing a game would continue playing, putting on different outfits and making their own scenarios. That's the beauty of it. Most games would become redundant and boring if you continued playing them after collecting everything. But Mario Oddysey still has plenty of possible adventures, even when you have collected everything. A businessman trying to get through town, a chef that has to go a long way, a groom that is late for his wedding and has to get there quick, but finds out the brides not there...the possibilities are endless.
With the new Balloon World update, I think we can revise the fourth ending and add a fifth one. Instead of grinding coins in the same place to get enough for 999 Moons, this is when players would start to get into Balloon World, which is both more lucrative and more fun. Some players would still keep playing Balloon World even after they don’t need coins anymore, which leads into the fifth and final goal of maxing out your Balloon World rank.
That's a great point! It's true when this video was published Balloon World was not available. To me, the fourth ending (and perhaps a fifth ;) ) are both enhanced by Balloon World. No more grinding in Bowser's Kingdom, there's finally a fun way to get coins!
Imagine that after that final ending music plays a message pops up and it says “level one completed”

Also, the first capture in the game is a frog, and at the end of the darker side, we realize the frog is also the very last capture.

and not even mentioning purple coins!
Well, you need to get all the non-special outfits for a moon. This includes purple coins however it can be bypassed by purchasing the special outfits.
And don't forget get the maximun rank on balloom world
What could have been cool is that if you collect 993 moons, then a painting appears in peach's castle that takes you to a remake of bob-omb battlefield and you can collect 6 more moons from the original stars.
That really would be cool!
why 993?
I'm assuming they meant 992 since there's 7 stars in BOB
Or better yet you collect 880 moons and the entire super Mario 64 is remade in the castle
Or even better mod your switch and play a remake of bob-omb battlefield
This crazy concept of flexible game content with more stuff to do after the ending is what we used to call "a game". Now everything is an early-access beta for two years, then you have to pay extra on top of the $60 to get more content.
+TearBothEyesOut Never thought about that when writing this video... Sad but true point! Thankfully there are still games like Odyssey out there that provide a "full" experience from a single purchase.

me: is this the ending?
game: well yes, but actually no
During my first playthrough, I made it to the second ending. Super Mario Odyssey is so special because of this distinction.
wow i only got 3rd ending
I try to do this level of completion for every game I play.
And having done this to a few hundred games over the past 30 years I must say Mario Odyssey is not in my top ten games that keep you hooked.

Well...after 3 years I finally got it from Santa this Christmas, and well I'm just happy to finally play it, I've watched lots of people play it and I know how good it was and I knew what I was expecting, I knew how a lot of the game went, I just finished the game about 15 minutes ago, it was so fun, and as Great as I expected, it truly is an amazing game and I loved playing it, and when I said I finished it I finished the first ending, I finished the first ending within 2 days because it's a relatively short game, only 15 hours or so but you can definitely do it within 2-3 days, or if you have enough time, less then a day, but my dad's on the tv a lot so I don't really have time to play it as much as I want, and the switch does die every 3 hours or so, so I have to wait for it charge before I can play it more, but I fully expect on playing and finishing the last 3 endings no matter how long it takes, I will go as far as I need to, I'm gonna finish the last ending, get tons of coins and buy all the outfits, and even play balloon world, they're a lot left for me to do but I'm excited to do the rest, and I cannot wait to finish this game, all ending, welp I'll edit this comment once I finish The Whole game, see you in maybe a few months!

There could technically be a fifth ending. The real moon count is over 2000+. If you were to be a super mega completionist you would buy 99 moons at each world. Theres no reward, its just a fun side thing to do. However, this requires so much coin grinding.
You could call that ending:
The Definition of Insanity
No, more like : ABSOLUTE MAD MAN
> Bowsers Kingdom Above the Clouds Coin Grinding
2147
No joke, I did that, and it took me too long, like 2+ months, I can't say it was worth it
It's been years since I've beaten the entire game and experiencing all of the endings.
What about the 5th ending where you still don't want to stop and you start a new save file, where you get more of the secret coin piles, learn how to do cooler jumps and skips, and take on daunting community-made challenges that push your skills to the limits, until you finally, after a number of hours unheard of for a single player game, decide "Alright, I want a break now."
This video was cool! Great job!
+Pasta Rhythm This is the true ending... You enter the game as a player and leave a speedrunner.
I was actually expecting one of the endings to be a speedrun ending. Like if you got to the moon in a short enough time, you find that Bowser is still setting up for the wedding and the guests have not arrived yet. The other endings don't disappoint though.
Pasta Rhythm yes and 6th end for getting all regional coins

I've been trying tough challenges I see online or make up online, and if I succeed I go buy myself a power moon as a reward. I have 999 already but its still fun to throw them in the Odyssey. Its almost like a Mario Maker perspective. The world is laid out, part of the fun is coming up with new challenged to try.
How about the Super Tryhard Completionists ending where you collect everything and get that little star in your save file?
Sabino Ultimate it’s so fun to do that

I did the same

In each kingdom, on the moon list, if you buy more than one moon the number next to 'shopping in kingdom' will increase and max out at 99. The fifth ending is to buy 99 power moons from each kingdom. I'll call this the dangerously addicted ending.

Honestly I laughed out loud. The tower ending was heartfelt goodbye after hours of marathon gameplay, but I couldn't believe that was it, so I kept playing to do everything I possibly could. These, these aren't actual "endings". These are skill thresholds. Multiple endings means that your decisions make a difference in how you end the game, here it's just how far your willing to take it and how much you're willing to see. These are thresholds, not endings.
You decided to keep playing the game after the first endings. The endings each have different moon counts and unlocks after them. There you go.
So then his 4th ending is the one and only ending
Its the same with endings to how far you are willing to go to complete the game, To collect things that makes it so you cant continue with something therefore a end of the game.
All are endings because you decide to end the game when you reach a point that you think that there is nothing to do.
What about Darker Side? Darker side is the final challenge, and technically the true ending to the game. Because the level itself is the boss battle. Because it's Mario's final hurdle to overcome on his journey.

No more grinding in Bowser's Kingdom, there's finally a fun way to get coins!
also because of how hard it is to get every power moon the 3rd and 4th ending should be switched around
but you know to get the 4th you need to get all the moons which gives you the 3rd ending first... wouldn't make much sense to switch those 2 around
actually you just need 999 power moons and i got that many without getting every single power moon
