We both Have been riding MTB for over 27 years and the ebikes are our favorite bikes ever, they can do everything and not leave you wrecked afterwards. Best of all 3 times more riding in the same time with just about the same amount of effort.

I recently had two days riding in the Lake District (before lockdown) I loved it on my none ebike but did end up pushing uphill in places. I hired a Focus ebike for the next ride and have never smiled so much since my days of motorbike trail riding.....right where's my wallet? 😉
Hey Ali Clarkson! Well good to see you enjoyed ebiking! There are disadvantages but for me the advantages vastly outweigh them! I find you still get a work out riding them because for every bit of power you expend the ebike rewards you by adding to it and that is a great motivator! More effort in is rewarded with more fun out! I'm riding 5 times as much as I used to! Ride ride ride!
I’m in my 70s, I have a knee replacement and arthritis but thanks to my e-bike I’m still riding and there are big hills where I live. Yes, I am Ali’s Mum and he once rode my bike for a few yards in a car park, doing a wheelie. My bike has been sulking ever since because I won’t let it do it again!

I can fly to the trial on the road at 35 MPH , then drop down the level and enjoy my day without worrying about someone breaking into my car or pay some stupid fees to park. For that price i have 50 miles of pure electric/ no pedaling at all of range @ 30 MPH AVG, 100 + miles of range if I actually pedal and enjoy a trail ride or 20. It is stupid NOT to have an E Bike. Why waste your fuel and pay extra just to park when your going to ride anyway? @@jakepople9692 There's no license, insurance or petrol cost with an e-bike. You don't have to brake any laws to have fun either. And if you do there's rarely any penalty. Riding a motorcycle to it's limits or even close to it on the road means your breaking traffic laws, risking big fines and losing your license.
If you're the sort of person who gives abuse to any mountain biker for any choice they make, you should give up the sport because we don't need you. The community is why people start in the first place. Yes part of a professionals job is to promote certain products but that's a byproduct of what they do. They're actually paid for their commitment to relentless pursuit of greatness and pushing the boundaries of the sport, race days and competition are their days off. It in no way shape or form affects you or your ability to ride a bike if someone chooses an E-Bike or a £300 hardtail. Leave your ego at the car (home in this current situation) and ride.
Solid ride from both of you; unsurprisingly 😊👍🏻 Just needed a little more momentum for that hill. I have owned a Specialized Turbo Levo since January 2019. Every time i go out on a normal bike I wish I’d got my ebike. Not because I am lazy, more because i can do more miles. I bought an ex demonstrator for £2500. It’s still a lot of money i suppose but much better than buying new. People need to give them a blast; you won’t look back. Just go to your local shop and give it a try......well when this bloody coronavirus dies down. Stay safe people.
When are prices on these things going to get reasonable? I saw Segway put out an electric DIRT BIKE that debuted at $2500. A hub motor kit you can slap on a $700 hardtail costs $550 (leed / hilltopper ebike kit).. much less if you source the parts yourself on aliexpress. I dont get why every ebike built for trail use is starting at $3500 and going up to $13000. Sure.. tack on $1000 for a motor, battery and slightly beefed up components for the added power... but it seems more like a $2000-$4000 upcharge.
I was just thinking how absurd it must feel when you're struggling up a mountain and all of a sudden Danny Macaskill and Ali Clarkson pedal past you. Can't imagine. 😂
These look great for somebody that's struggling with fitness or injuries. Still gives you a good workout and an enjoyable ride but makes it more accessible.
E-bikes are amazing, you don't need to spend stupid money. I got the Vitus ESommet 2 years ago for just under £3k. I can honestly say that it is hands down been the best thing to improve my riding. I have definitely got a lot fast due to this bike
It's to easy to go fast uphill on a ebike, and if you did a really good run on a normale MTB you should be proud of the performance you put out. If you do it on a ebike you just bought more performance, that isn't fair play
@@Ali_Clarkson i really like to ride uphill and it has a unfair feeling when someone with a ebike just speeds by while u push urself to the limit with all that ur legs can provide.
An eBike has allowed me to get back on the saddle and enjoy singletrack fun with my pals. I have a complex medical condition that affects my strength, so I was excited to get a 2019 Kona CTRL. The only problem with an eBike is weight. I'm a small dude: 5' 6" and 115 (wet). I have trouble guiding the steering and throwing the bike around. Maybe I'll be able to afford a carbon one day! Until then, I'm grateful for what I have. Ride on friends.
what people don't realize is that riding a heavy bike is like weight training. when Danny hops back on his trials bike it will feel even lighter and more controllable.
Nice one Danny. I'm 61 and after a really bad back injuiry I am now able to Cross Country Bike again with my new E-Bike and blast through trails like I used to do 30 years ago when I was your age. But not so mental as you...Because I still have to take it easy and be sensiblle. Great video. You really are an absolute legend. Love your adventures.
Never even considered a ebike like the workout getting to the top until i watched dannys vid when he said can get up twice as fast so can go down the trail twice in the same amount of time on a bike made sense lets face it most of us only climb up for the fun we get going back down
That was some proper riding, boys! Couldn't agree more... I love the uphill advantages but was pleasantly surprised about that planted feel on the downhill chunder. E-bikes >>> # of laps up, heart rate up, stoke up. Yeeewwww!
Oh man this is such a nice feeling! Not being able to ride because of the stupid virus (plus my frame snapped) than seeing Ali's 20+ min video! No matter the topic of the video it always brings a smile on my face! Thanks Ali! Cheers from Serbia!
I started on a emtb, only been riding for some 8 months and I'm on the ups and downs I'm one of the quicker riders in the group. Switched over to a normal bike to prove myself and I'm not worn out at the top of climbs like the other mid pack and slower guys in the group. EMTB got me fitter and fast, who can ride 40+ kms and still be good the next day for another 30 odd ? EMTB people
santa cruz is a fine bike mfg. i just sold my santa cruz blur lt (yes, 13 yrs!) and got a specialized turbo levo comp. it's a Beatiful beast!!! best buy/fun for the $$$
One thing that most fail to mention is that you get more fast action on an ebike and this improves ones skill set. Just like when moto riders cross over. Most of them haul ass..
I've grown up on a dirtbike, and I can really supplement how much some added inertia bearing the front wheel keeps the bike on-line. Counter-intuitive regarding all that MTB has stood for, but these bikes are downhill machines.
Great video and good video write up. I've never ridden one but really fancy it! I dont see how people can be against things without ever experiencing them.
Thinking particularly of that last ‘shaley’ run, who devises these routes? Is it the Forestry, or does some mad-brain find somewhere new, ride it a couple of times, and then others follow to make it into a regular route? Uncle G.
Brilliant to watch Danny riding trails. Bike placement, rear wheel placement, body positioning all stand out. Just SO precise. He makes speed from the trail really well.
1:56 Torque sensor calibration error from the get-go (from resting foot on pedals). LOL. Welcome to ebikes. There's another one you'll likely encounter: speed sensor error, if you try to ride off with a different rear wheel (without magnet properly installed on it).
Right...I've been riding since 1989. First 'real' bike was a Proflex 550 (1993), and have ridden full sus ever since. I've kinda fallen out of love with the sport for the past few years, but this has reignited my interest. And I've been resistant to e-bikes for a while, but this machine looks the just the ticket. Hmmmmm Thinking time...
Abit of help plz ppl…. What do you call this style of trail called? Or is it just a trail and this is a certain grade?
It was great to see pro MTBer still having fun on their bike, nice video beautiful place.
Ali Clarkson never, especially the way you two ride them 😊👍🏻
ive owned tons of mountain bikes and road bikes but i have the most fun on my E-MTB!
yeh but do you really get the same feeling going downhill you know compared to a normal bike probs not much far off but idk 😬
@@SSH01 yes i do actually because i dont pedal downhill.
Where about are these trails? Im guessing somwhere in scotland?
Innerleithen, Scottish Borders.
I've been ride'ing big motorcycles for over 20 years, watching you going through the trees, have to say you guys are Nuts.
Big nuts :)
When Ali left the trail, that’s when I knew I’d have died on that mountain 😅
Danny is a LEGEND !
Great riding. These 11 second google adverts are so tedious
Innerleithen = Competitive Tree dodging . :-)
Looks like tons of fun! I'm sure those riders were really surprised to be passed by you and Danny while climbing up!
I was just thinking how absurd it must feel when you're struggling up a mountain and all of a sudden Danny Macaskill and Ali Clarkson pedal past you. Can't imagine. 😂
@@steezymtb5876 I probably would have crashed immediately after that moment!
Given that it's them, they would have passed me the same way if they were on MTBs and I was on the emtb.
Who wouldn't want an e-bike!🤤
Can you imagine getting passed by DMack and the only thing that comes to mind is theses cheaters😂 just bought a bike and wish it was an E-bike.
Its called the ebike smile.
Probably not quite as broad a smile as riding a motorbike, though !
Nice, they're £4300 now.
Its all about fun, fuck what anyone thinks
An eBike has allowed me to get back on the saddle and enjoy singletrack fun with my pals. I have a complex medical condition that affects my strength, so I was excited to get a 2019 Kona CTRL. The only problem with an eBike is weight. I'm a small dude: 5' 6" and 115 (wet). I have trouble guiding the steering and throwing the bike around. Maybe I'll be able to afford a carbon one day! Until then, I'm grateful for what I have. Ride on friends.
In that forest through those trees, real star wars vibes there lol crazy 🌳🌳🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️😜
That was a super fun watch, guys! Got me revved up to go riding now. That trail system and an e-bike would be the actual dream.
what people don't realize is that riding a heavy bike is like weight training. when Danny hops back on his trials bike it will feel even lighter and more controllable.
Ali. You must get pissed off with THE NOBS who give this video a thumbs down ! They are the NOBS not you. AWESOME VIDEO.
Awesome footage. So stoked to see this bike in action.
I recently demoed an e bike and I had the exact same reaction when I first got on “holy cow this is insane” Love the video and collab with Danny 🤘
love your videos and Danny is amazing
Never even considered a ebike like the workout getting to the top until i watched dannys vid when he said can get up twice as fast so can go down the trail twice in the same amount of time on a bike made sense lets face it most of us only climb up for the fun we get going back down
Impressive you
Can talk through that!
EMTB people
Met you both that day and you were both total gents. You made Avalanche looks easy . I doubt ill vere ride that , looks scary AF.
My biggest fear is slamming a tree just like that lol glad y’all helmets on lol
I was puckering hard through those trees! 🤭
Ali Clarkson I’m glad lol great video tho
Peter Charlton hahahaha yeah so was I, I even bobbed and weaved on a couple of em
@@jimmyrayne5425 right? The POV is so compelling. Its like training for your brain.
Scott Pratico lol yeah it definitely is
niice. good to see you both riding together on E-Bikes
santa cruz is a fine bike mfg. i just sold my santa cruz blur lt (yes, 13 yrs!) and got a specialized turbo levo comp. it's a Beatiful beast!!! best buy/fun for the $$$
I sold my tallboy for that levo beast
@@yonaissaiss7491 i assume no regrets?? ;O
@@jackcraigaptos i am very happy.
Learn how to work with mission control its fun.
@@yonaissaiss7491 have you tried Blevo? I reckon it leaves Mission Control in the dust.
Where are these trails they look amazing? Great video guys. I’m actually saving for an ebike after snapping the rear triangle on my full susser.
Did you find out? I'm wanting to know also
Love from South Africa
One thing that most fail to mention is that you get more fast action on an ebike and this improves ones skill set. Just like when moto riders cross over. Most of them haul ass..
I've grown up on a dirtbike, and I can really supplement how much some added inertia bearing the front wheel keeps the bike on-line. Counter-intuitive regarding all that MTB has stood for, but these bikes are downhill machines.
Anyone know where this is. ?
E-bike were made for the Golfie. No uplift and disgusting climb to the top.
I have 6 bikes...2 e-bikes...One is a EMTB 9.0 Haibike 2019 - it is the most fun since it allows me to ride further and do so much more !!! :D
I have 2 Haibike Yamaha Midrive I love them.
Where are these trails please
innerleithen golfie trails
Great video and good video write up. I've never ridden one but really fancy it! I dont see how people can be against things without ever experiencing them.
Thinking particularly of that last ‘shaley’ run, who devises these routes? Is it the Forestry, or does some mad-brain find somewhere new, ride it a couple of times, and then others follow to make it into a regular route? Uncle G.
I hit about 20 trees just watching this video. Looks like fantastic fun and the ebike must take the edge off the hill climbs quite nicely.
i have E-bike and bike normal, but i love my E-bike men...amazing video, congradulation!!!
Brilliant to watch Danny riding trails. Bike placement, rear wheel placement, body positioning all stand out. Just SO precise. He makes speed from the trail really well.
Not sure really. Phycologically I get more out of non-e-bike. But ebike means going further and faster so more variety. . . . horses or courses.
1:56 Torque sensor calibration error from the get-go (from resting foot on pedals). LOL. Welcome to ebikes. There's another one you'll likely encounter: speed sensor error, if you try to ride off with a different rear wheel (without magnet properly installed on it).
Are we supposed to know were this is? Can't find a mention anywhere.
it is in one of the answers : innerleithen golfie trails
Right...I've been riding since 1989. First 'real' bike was a Proflex 550 (1993), and have ridden full sus ever since. I've kinda fallen out of love with the sport for the past few years, but this has reignited my interest. And I've been resistant to e-bikes for a while, but this machine looks the just the ticket. Hmmmmm Thinking time...
Abit of help plz ppl…. What do you call this style of trail called? Or is it just a trail and this is a certain grade? Currently I’m still abit of a newbie and on blue trails a decent speed not overly fast but really enjoy these techy “natural” looking bits in these videos but not trails I ride. Thanks
Does the magura brakes
imagine just riding around and you see Danny just going around you
Some day maybe :D
I LOVE the UPS... but I am too Poor and Too Lazy to invest in making them long term easy...
I LOVE the UPS... I prefer the UPS!!!!
No more Motion Ride e18 fork, what happened? Don't like it?
@@Ali_Clarkson Wow that's super sad, I wanted one. I wonder what went wrong.
@@Ali_Clarkson Looks like their facebook page is still active and they're still working on the project.
Holy s**t, how fast were you on that last run 😳
Impressive skills on display 🤘
Anyone know the location of this particular trail?
