    I used the Gleim self study kit to prepare for the FAA Knowledge test. I bought it, studied, took the quizzes, and in less than a month I felt ready for my written. Called to scheduled the test 10/3/17; took it 10/5/17 (yesterday) and passed with a score that I am VERY proud of.
    I must say that watching your UA-cam videos helped TREMENDOUSLY!
    Thank you for making these videos.

    _"DO NOT MEMORIZE"_ -- I went to a college class once many moons ago (back in the early 1990s) to prepare for a Microsoft certification test. There was a kid there that had graduated high school at, if memory serves, 16. He thought he was all that and a bag of chips. We completed the course and were studying for the exam. He would brag about how fast he could get through the practice tests. Back then, they didn't even randomize the questions OR the answers, so the memorization was super easy.
    My strategy back then, as it always has been, was the take each question and figure out WHY the right answer was right, but sometimes even more importantly, figure out why the wrong answer was wrong. Come the day of the exam, he failed. Not by the skin of his teeth, but by a considerable amount. I got one of the highest scores of my class.
    Before I turned 55, I finished a 5-year Bachelor's program in IT Software in 3 years while working full-time and rehabbing my house. It was a pass/fail program where a passing grade was at least a B. All the IT-based classes were MS certification tests. I used the same techniques and didn't have to retake a single test, let alone class.
    Rote memorization is the least efficient way to pass exams, let alone actually learn anything.

    My CFI pushed me to take my written, saying a passing grade is all that matters. Bring ADD, i can't get passed a question if i don't understand the correct answer. I would like to take and pass a short answer exam. With 30 hours of flight training, i go Thursday for my written. I'm gonna make 100%.

    Thanks for posting these videos and I've also been listening to your podcast as I commute to and from work. Very excellent content thank you. Here are a few questions for anyone who's a pilot. On the FAA Knowledge Test I know there are 60 questions and have 120 Minutes to answer them. What about the oral questions during the check ride? How many questions are there? What are the topics? How much time do I have to answer them? What materials can I use to answer these questions if any?

    With respect to the certification of aircraft, Airplane, Rotorcraft, and Glider are CLASSES. CATEGORY is a subset based on intended use: Normal, Utility, Acrobatic. You referred to class as 'category'. Not a good term to re-inforce to your students because many of the FAA possible questions will explore this.

      Thanks for the info but honestly I think it’s better to become the go to for information online in a specific topic without doing a ton of promo and then once you’re trusted in that forum, then you can do quick plugs instead of long “I’m good because” parts. Just be the go to for info and people will come

    The biggest issue i'm finding with Studying is I am going for my Private Helicopter License. But so many of the test questions are in reference to planes which i have zero experience with. So im being ushered into learning information i will never use nor have any experience putting into practice.
    I'm quite worried as i am in the solo phase but am struggling to grasp some of the foreign plane questions, usually when it has to do with a graph that i have never seen which cant be deciphered(like a landing distance chart or density altitude chart).
    I see this was 7 years ago so maybe im about 7 years too late on this haha hopefully it has gotten better since though.

    What would you suggest a person do as far as training to become a private pilot? I.E.; study manuals then go to a ground school, when should you take an "introductory flight. In other words, how should a person set up their pilot training to be the most effective and be able to learn and do the best?

    • @Da-Creams
      @Da-Creams 5 років тому

      Live Above Average learn as much as possible before paying for flights and an instructor it'll save you a lot of money. Also stay on top of scheduling as it's pretty easy to let a couple weeks go by which will waste your time reviewing what you've already learned.

    • @moeictstevo
      @moeictstevo 8 років тому

      I started working on obtaining my PPL late last year
      I've achieved the hours needed and done the ground school classes and it is only now that I am required to write this exam
      You can write this exam at anytime
      However no, you don't have to do it one time. And yes, you will be trained before you write it.

    • @davidlong3359
      @davidlong3359 8 років тому +1

      No, just make sure to take the test pretty soon after your solo so you don't end up waiting on the test before your check ride.
      It may be a good idea to knock out ground first through the test though, it would definitely make your lessons more productive.
      I recommend this order:
      discovery flight
      Medical
      Then invest time/dollars into training and training materials.
