    Super video. Thanks! I looked up every website analyzed in this video and of the 4 sites featured, only one of them made the suggested edits (The first one), 1 switched to a corporate site and 2 did not make any of the suggested changes. That's kind of shocking, considering they were willing to have their websites reviewed, publicly, by Don and posted on UA-cam!

    I find it very interesting that none of these people took the advice - their sites all look the same 3 years later...... how could they not see the value? Apparently, they know more about marketing than Donald does I guess!

      I bet it was primarily because of one of three things: 1.) They weren't the person that could approve (pay for) changing the site. 2.) They could approve the change but couldn't do it themselves and didn't want to pay someone a ton of money to make the change. 3.) A ton of money was already paid to design and create the site and they do not want to go through it again because they have not experienced the value that making those changes would bring. They are probably too focused on the site telling their own story.

    But to be precise about the Curse of knowledge Concept, I may add something here...
    " The Curse of Knowledge" was mentioned first by the Brothers Heath in their Valuable book " Made to Stick "
    Even the author of the book mentioned by Donald " The Art of Explanation", Lee Lefever wrote the following :
    .
    " ... To understand our problems in making
    assumptions, we can look at our decisions through the lens of the curse of knowledge,
    which is described in a book called Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath. The idea
    behind the curse of knowledge is that when we know a subject very well, we have a
    difficult time imagining what it is like not to know it ... "
    and then he continued:

    " ... Here is an excerpt of an article by the authors
    from the Harvard Business Review:
    In 1990, a Stanford University graduate student in psychology named Elizabeth Newton
    illustrated the curse of knowledge by studying a simple game in which she assigned people
    to one of two roles: ‘‘tapper’’ or ‘‘listener.’’
    So even the Authors referred the concept to Elizabeth Newton as Mentioned...

    I did a little research in Wikipedia about the origin of the term, and I found the following
    "The term "curse of knowledge" was coined in a 1989 Journal of Political Economy article by economists Colin Camerer, George Loewenstein, and Martin Weber. The aim of their research was to counter the "conventional assumptions in such (economic) analyses of asymmetric information in that better-informed agents can accurately anticipate the judgment of less-informed agents".[4]
    Such research drew from Baruch Fischhoff's work in 1975 surrounding hindsight bias, a cognitive bias that knowing the outcome of a certain event makes it seem more predictable than may actually be true.[5] Research conducted by Fischhoff revealed that participants did not know that their outcome knowledge affected their responses, and, if they did know, they could still not ignore or defeat the effects of the bias. "

    As of today, June 8, 2019, Victoria Clausen has indeed applied the Storybrand advice to her website, and I personally think it's better now! The only thing she did not do is differentiate quickly that she does not do catering and entertainment. However, it seems like people visiting her site would know that. She also has an extensive "what we do not to" section that Mr. Miller didn't like but that really clarifies things to the potential customer that will be reading the paragraphs on that webpage. (It is a bit wordy, but I think they'll read it anyway.)
    The Womble Company is ... I don't know what happened to their website. There is a Womble company that deals in metal pipes. The Womble company that deals in Pella Windows only showed up after I added windows to my search. However it took me on a wild goose chase through the BBB, some construction business association, on and on... but I think they took their website down and just work directly for Pella now. They were involved in winning a national Pella award for a submitted new-build so they are indeed good and they seem to still be in business.
    Metrogroup.com applied nothing of his advice. I don't understand why they submitted their website to be reviewed. Maybe for the free exposure of his local scrap recycling company to a national audience. (?) The site does rotate the "real estate" picture with two others, highlighting services they provide and why these services help companies. So that was good. The bad thing is that the pictures rotate (there are 3) faster than it takes to read the text.
    ForceSecurity.com literally did nothing that he suggested. There are a lot of words on their website, but since this is B2B perhaps this is why there isn't such a feeling of urgency to have "what we do and why this will help you" in a prominent place on the Home page.

    it blows my mind how this business owners got a website review from Donald Miller and didn't make any change to their sites. It shows how ignorant they are about business and also arrogant, thinking they know better. I am so tempted to even write to them, to ask WHY?! that's why some businesses grow, some don't!

    Mind-boggling. So, I was curious to see what their site(s) looked like now. Other than the floral lady, not one of these people made a single change Donald recommended to their website.
    The floral lady only made one change he recommended, completely negating the others.

      bebeezra I came across the audio version of this video last night for the first time and listened to the whole thing and was blown away! Then in the comments someone wrote that the people Donald helped didn’t implement the changes he coached them through, and I thought: NO WAY! Then I came across this video today 03-29-2018 and decided to watch it again, and saw your comment pretty much saying the same thing someone else said in the audio one I listened to last night and now I was curious, so I went to the floral website and she implemented one thing Donald coached her on and left the rest. I also visited the Womble website one and nothing got implemented, and I was blown away. Yet curious, and wondering: is it human nature? What would have people get all of that amazing coaching that can further transform their businesses and not act upon it? I really I am curious🤔

      This was one session at an ENTIRE WEEK of EntreLeadership Master Series. Most of these leaders were here looking for help running their business better and building better teams. Marketing was one of the aspects we looked at. Attending one of these events is like drinking from a firehose. There is so much learned that week. I'm not surprised that tweaking the website was not priority number one.

      Sometimes the bigger the company you have the slower to move on certain things like the website. Or maybe there website is built on bad software. Regardless there's lots of reasons.

      Nathan Riches Good point Nathan about having so much to digest from the conference. Maybe there’s still so much for these leaders to implement, and yet too many day-to-day fires to put out. Yet, I was shocked to see their websites largely untouched!

    The last security company website owner was like "f**k you, I ain't gonna change shit". 3 years after, the website is the exact same.

      HafieyR they probably all have a 17 year old nephew that “knows web design” who talked them into their current abominations and changing things steps on too many toes. Happens a lot.

      Usually when you get free advice you don't value it. Hoever in this case someone paid for attending the conference.
      It is mind boggling that you will not implement these SIMPLE changes if you are the owner of the business...

    Don’t equate Ramsey and Miller as being equal. Ramsey is a pure marketer and often offers misguided advice. Miller’s guidance is dead on.

    Wow, still only one person changed their site [slightly], by changing one button. No one else changed a single thing. Probably because they spent thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars on site design and are locked in to spending more just to implement the changes. Better to stick with the devil you know regardless of how mediocre it may be.

    I thought his reviews were half-fast. He didn't get into the branding or story at all. These are reviews that almost any web guy on craigslist could give. I wish he didn't talk so much.
