    I think showing your day to day shots on film would be a great compliment to the technical advice you give

    A friend of mine recently gave me his old bulk loader that had a partial roll of Ilford HP4 (not a mis-type) from 1972. I shot it at ISO 100, and it came out fine! It might have been a bit lacking in contrast - it could have just been me - but no worse than Kentmere. Have fun!!!

      Hi Richard, very happy to hear this about the old HP5. I also have a friend who gave me a old bulk loader from the 70’s with HP5 😱 He kept the bulk loader under the house, so I’m not sure it will come out as a good yours 😉 I need to find a handle for the bulk loader and they I will test the old film 🥴

    Good to see you again Darryl. Love the minimalist set and your audio was fine. Too many people shooting BG lights toward the lens, attaching Cinebloom filters, etc. YOU are the content with this set without distractions. Excellent!
    So maybe it's my age talking, or the fact that I grew up in the 70s, quite literally in the shadow of The Eastman Kodak Corporation, but I just can't pay the outrageous film prices being demanded today. As a pro, I shot Portra 400 for years after Fujifilm quit making NHG. I vividly remember paying $20/Propack for 120 and double that for 220. And don't even get me started on Tri-X 135. As lovely as your M6TTL and MP are, if I had an M10-P, that's all I would shoot!
    BTW, I'd like to say that exposing Portra 400 at 200 is not "overexposing" it. This is perhaps semantic, but I believe it's important for your young viewers to understand. Properly exposing negative film is exactly opposite of exposing digital or transparency film. An in-camera meter is great at making sure you don't blow the highlights, but terrible at reading shadows. And that's what color negative film needs. Enough exposure to develop film density from the shadow areas of your image. Using an incident meter is really best practice for film exposure. Folks don't want to fuss with that, so rating a 400 ISO film at 200 or even 100 is a quick workaround.
    Enjoy your trip! Can't wait to see the images!

    You going to do a video on the V Raptor? Did you hire or purchase?

    • @DarrylCarey
      @DarrylCarey  Рік тому

      I purchased camera from RED direct, it arrived a couple days before I left for Taiwan (Did not get a chance to test the V-Raptor before I left🤣). Will work on a review when I get back to NZ. Anything you want me to included 😉

    would you pick up a new M6 or MP if you were in the market for one? considering there's the option of the M6 new now.

    • @DarrylCarey
      @DarrylCarey  5 місяців тому

      Hi Samuel, I sold my M6 and using the MP for film photography. I like the look and feel of the MP, something very special about the black paint, the NEW M6 is a MP in a different body … If you get the Black Paint MP, the camera will age with you. Both great cameras

    Old expired film will not ruin your camera unless it's been soaked in saltwater or something like that. Most likely you'll just be wasting your time. If the bulk loader is still light tight, you can use it to purchase new film and bulk load it for yourself and all your friends. It's definitely worth trying out.

    How do you enjoy the MP compared to your 503cw? :)

    • @DarrylCarey
      @DarrylCarey  29 днів тому +1

      Very different shooting experience, do miss the 503, but it’s much easier to travel with the MP as I have an M11-P and only carrying M-mount lenses

    • @mahdimanesh4221
      @mahdimanesh4221 29 днів тому

      Ah yes this makes sense. I shot all kinds of digital medium format from Fuji and Hasselblad. Looking for film - but maybe the MP is the better Allrounder as you mention. Otherwise I use my Fuji X system for speed. Enjoy your MP!

      Get a good used MP which looks better than a M6 and does the same quality of pictures in my opinion. Buy Films and do some trips for the money you saved… ;)

    Only tip I can give you is get the cinestill film developed in ECN-2 and not in C41 for the best results😄

    Darryl, WRT getting filmed developed in Tokyo-the best person to ask (in my humble opinion) would Jeremy Hunt (Japan Camera Hunter/JCH). He’s a dedicated, diehard, unwavering, film guy that knows the in’s and out’s of the film world/culture in Tokyo. Be Blessed , Doc Chaps
