We flew to Indianapolis in ‘93 to see Nigel in the Indy 500, we saw him with his family in the driver roped off area and shouted for an autograph, as soon as he heard our accents he told his ppl to let us in and sat with us asking where we’re from, took photos with us and signed everything we asked him…..totally star struck as a youngster we were all blown away and he made our trip. What a guy !!

The only driver in the 80's and early 90's who wasn't afraid of Senna and Senna knew he couldn't get to him. For that I think Senna always felt Nigel was a true challenger to him and gave him a lot of respect.

Great guy Nigel. I was fishing on one of his lakes near his golf course back in the late 90's, and he came along and helped me land a big carp I had been fighting with for a while. It was such an experience to catch such a nice fish, and have Nigel Mansell to help me land it. I sat there stunned and speechless for about an hour after my heart rate came down again. He was a brilliant, brave and very fast driver. In the mid eighties we had a real treat of drivers, from the end of the Lauda era to the beginning of Senna. Piquet was a real artist of a driver, so gifted. Old Prosty was another Jackie Stewart, so smooth and clever, to boot. Mansell, though, drove with his youknowwhats.

Really amazing, we'd just moved the Phoenix and a friend mentioned he knew the mnager at PIR and I said I'd live to meet Nigel, next thing some tickets arrive and I'm told to be at Practice at the Track at a certain time.
Thinking, no way is this going to happen, I'm there and blow me Nigel gets out of the Racing Car, hops over the barrier and is guided to meet me, we spoke for some time. It was simply a magical moment I'll always remember for ever. His Wife is just a lovely person.

I’ve been a Mansell fan for decades, personally witnessing so many of the events you discussed here. However I’ve never really seen an interview which I felt did him justice - until now. You absolutely nailed it, showing the true emotional family man behind the phenomenal driver that Mansell was. Many other drivers had a succession of trophy wives, Nige restricted himself to a succession of trophies! Possibly the only driver who was a match for Senna. What a legend he is, and what a great interview you gave us. xx

I absolutely agree. Not only is this the most revealing interview with NM ever, it’s done with a great deal of affection & sincerity. Kudos, Jodie.
And bloody hell, I knew he was determined & tough, but some of the tales of racing when most of us wouldn’t have been standing at all made me wince.
The tragic deaths were horrible, and to lose people you liked very much yet to continue is impossible to fully appreciate, at least not by me.
The number of times Nigel drove races & near-impossible manoeuvres meant fans always willed him on, knowing that, if his car was competitive, he would take some beating. Skill, courage, determination, will to win.
It’s wonderful to see him looking content & I hope not in too much physical discomfort after several potentially career- if not life-ending injuries. The harsh realities are that we never fully heal & many mended injuries leave marks which hurt, frankly. He’s earned his well-loved status as a retired lion!

Again, Thank You, Nigel Mansell was one of my very favourite drivers, his life and mine seemed on a similar 'Ying & Yang' pattern, as while he was repeatedly taking the second step of the world championship of the podium, my own passion for car racing was crowned as I was selected in Paris, to become a leading contender in reformulating octanes in gasoline as the lead phase-down was being enforced. The year I got the Patent for it, is the year Nigel finally got the crown. I'll never forget it!

I remember seeing Nigel in Formula Ford in 1977 in a Javelin JL5 and Crossle 32F. Even then he was fabulous to watch. True legend. Many thanks for another magnificent production Jodie x

Thank you Jodi, for producing easily the best interview with "our Nige" I've ever seen. His exploits are extraordinary and driving whilst injured and laughing about feeling uncomfortable as his stitches were tearing at over 190mph. Legend.

As an aside. I really love watches I can see your wearing a wonderul ebel , this tells you how sad I am, I recognised at first it by the buckle and looking at Nigels wrist It looks like a Patek Buckle, absolute class both watches!

I was scared of Mansell growing up. The aggressive style, the mustache, the Red 5, and racing against my local boys Senna and Piquet made him the perfect sports villain to me. Later I came to admire the fact that he always delivered in every single race , win or lose. Cheers from Brazil, really miss the 1980s and early 90s F1.

Why is this channel only having 70k subs, craziness. This is amazing stuff that people need to watch. From the first time I met the lovely lady JK at Goodwood, she was so kind to give up time on her day out I’ve loved all the thing she does. She’s a fantastic lady and role model to bust down those barriers to show girls can drive cars to! More need to be in pro driving. Good luck with everything you do. Luv ya Jodie 👍

Having followed Williams from 1977 and their inception at Didcot and my very first job letter that I posted out after leaving school was to WGPE in June 1978, the period of Keke and Nigel as the FW10 was improved is one of the most wonderful times - I met Nigel a few times but at the Tribute to Williams day at Brands Hatch at the end of 1986 there was a lot of fun when Nigel and Patrick Head raced Ford XR3's -not a straight panel to be seen at the end. What followed over the next years were perhaps the best days of F1 I have seen - a great interview Jodie and also brought back lots of experiences I had with F1 30+ years ago.

A little story for you, really enjoyed this interview, what a legend.
Many years ago circa 93 ish, my italian boss acquired a Testarossa from a dealership in Wiltshire. He stated it was formerly owned by Nigel. On his way back from the dealership the day he collected it he was clocked at over 100mph and banned for a month from driving. The car sat in our company HQ and our boss gave us the incentive to perform by saying the most productive employee that month would get the Testarossa for the weekend. I won and had the car for the weekend at 20 years old! I've always wondered if indeed it was owned by Nigel.
