They should have asked ol'Swearhard about the time he filled Senna's dress shoes with shaving cream before a gala. Or the time he put smelly cheese in the airco unit of the hotel they were staying at.
Senna considered Berger as one of his dearest friends in life. And we brazilians cherish it a lot, always great to see and hear Gerhard! Great interview! Cheers from Rio
Gerhard was one of my favourite characters from F1 history. The other is probably Mika Hakkinen. Seemed quiet but when he did actually open up was gold 😁
I met Mika at a sponsors party in Montreal in 1992. He was a gloriously nice guy. Extremely humble and not calling attention to himself. I took a liking to him immediately. Ron Dennis on the other hand...was the complete opposite. Extremely arrogant and unlikeable.
Mikka is a madman just like Gerhard. To me, it always seemed clear. But he also had a huge heart. And like all truly intelligent people, he was self-deprecating and didn’t take himself overly serious.
There was a Euro F3 race at Silverstone. On raceway morning , there was a Pitlane walkabout with 2 tables in front of Jonny Dumfries' pit. One table had Dumfries posters and photos on it with Dumfries sitting in front of one, doing autographs. People were picking up the photos or posters and there was a queue of us getting Dumfries to sign them. I was 2 places from the front, when I got a tap on my shoulder and an Austrian accent said, "excuse please" and this tall man stood in front of me in the queue. When this man got to the front of the queue, Dumfries wasn't even looking up, and just signing whatever was out in front of him. The guy in front pushed a photo towards Dumfries and requested ,"for Gerhard, please..." Dumfries almost collapsed in laughter. At Donington during practice for a Euro Touring car race, Berger was coning into the pits, and as he slowed, he quickly took of his helmet and balaclava, replacing it with a gorilla mask... He got fined for that!
Gerhard was a very brave man to step back into the car after Imola 1994. Not only he lost his ex teammate and friend Senna in the same corner he almost died, the day before Roland lost his life having suffered exactly the same fault for exactly the same reasons as Gerhard did, only later on in the lap going towards Villeneuve kink. Racing drivers are a different breed indeed.... Oh and the Minardi BMW prank on Eddie....just glorious!
Guys… this was excellent. Being a long F1 fan, this was so nice seeing all of you guys. Gerhard, you are on a another level. Would love to have a friend like you, life would not be dull. Like you said, you have to balance the seriousness of the sport. You all look great. David and Eddie, you are doing a fantastic job 😎
thank you so much guys for these great moments getting back to one of the best years in f1. Gerhard being one of the all time greatest figures in the sport. So good to hear from him and what a great hour to listen to these stories.
gerhard is absolutely a master. the stuff he got up to is much much worse than throwing senna's briefcase out the helicopter. awesome! always loved gerhard bergler.
I absolutely love this podcast! DC and EJ together is an absolute blast with banters and an incredible knowledge about F1. Gerhard might be the funniest driver ever. Definitely has the best stories 😂 P.s.: pls include the cam on Spotify 🙏
Berger mentioned another crazy prank to F1 magazine. He sneaked into Senna's hotel room (don't ask how he got in!) and hid a battery powered alarm clock that was VERY loud in the a/c vent (It hadn't been properly secured so he was able to move the cover and stuff it inside). At about 1 am, it went off. Senna burst out of his room in a panic, struggling to find the source of the noise while other guests shouted at him to shut the damn thing up. Berger peeked out from his hotel room and recalled "Ayrton was VERY embarrassed!" 🤣
well done guys, keep up the good work! and I'm proud to be Dutch, nice to hear the way you speak about Max....he's making history already ate the moment.....
I really enjoyed the discussion. There is one gripe though. It was good that they mentioned the crash Gerhard had (to highlight the dangers) at Tamburello but it was a pity that the marshals who reached the scene so quickly and acted so efficiently didn't get a mention. Without their invention, his burns could have been much worse or even proved fatal. I became a marshal because of their actions that day in the hope that one day I could make such a difference should the need arise.
Here where I live in Brazil there is a homeless guy that looks exactly like Eddie. I know him from the streets for like 20 years or so, and the funny thing is that as the years progress, they both get even more identical.
Intriguing discussion! Felt like sitting at a table in the pub, having a beer with my mates, and curling up with belly laughing, listening to them telling great stories about absent friends, loved it !
Poor David 😂😂😂 the amount of patience…I would love to hear him be able to finish a thought. Gerhard is one of the finest raconteurs of all time. Options are consistently respectful, humble, and conscientious. Eddie, though maybe unaware has a tendency to take himself so seriously. He could probably cure a rare disease with this amount of focus and seriousness. Dog with a 40 year old bone.
Jesus.. how can they remember all the races? And not only the race, but what happened and where they ended up. Remarkable. I really enjoy listening to Berger.
all I can say is these conversations are PRICELESS! these guys are from my generation and I used to watch them sometimes live on ESPN (in the middle of the night sometimes, lol). Back then, there were no apps, social media, so information about what went on behind the scenes were hidden. It's amazing to find out now all this stuff about the sport and its drivers and cars after the fact. Really enjoyable to watch.
My favourite driver as I grew up watching F1, loved his race style and style out of the car. My most prized possession is a part of the front wing from the Imola Ferrari.
I used to have in my possession a piece of the endplate from Mansell’s front wing from his incident in the wall of champions corner in 1992 in Montreal . It even had the titanium skid block with an individual serial number engraved on it.
Who would I like to see you guys interview??? Gerhard was brilliant. Thankyou. Who has the best store other than Gerhard? The thing with F1 it is so clinically organised, to get the really funny stuff it's no exaggeration but you need to go back to the 80's and 90's probably. The human stories are always better than the usual boring stories about how I beat my teammate etc etc. want to see more like Gerhard.
It would be cool to have Rubens there as well..he has told a lot of funny stories he had with Senna and Berger on brazilian podcasts and ofc he must have stories with Eddie since he's raced for him.
You need to get Irvine on, would love to hear not just the funny stories but that insight into Ferrari with Schumacher and the year he could have been champion
Thanks guys. This was absolutely brilliant. Would be great to see you guys in Abu Dhabi this year. You should do a live pod cast on that weekend. I'll sort the venue for you guys.
This is a great story & love more stories like this. Love F1 & all the greats but didn’t know much about Gerhard. Please interview more like him & definitely Gerhard again. Don’t forget David & Eddie, also about yourselves, maybe swap sides & get Gerhard to interview you 2. Cheers guys.
I've been listening to the podcast for sometime and hoping you put the long form out on video and finally you have. Hoorah!! My father had a stroke several years ago and he won't be able to concentrate on a podcast but he very well might a video. So I've just emailed him a link; he has hearing issues too and UA-cam audio isn't always good for him but my fingers are crossed that it's something else I've found that will give him pleasure.
Heinz Harald Frentzen or maybe Flavio Briatore would be nice... And just 1 advice - it would be maybe nice if you have corrected Gerhard, because he said he was racing against Senna, Mansell,Schumi and Prost almost 50 years ago... Second - it was maybe sad that he didn say anything about Prost and Schumacher.
Super guest and interview as always. I was disappointed that Gerhard didnt say anything about Schumi and Prost... He knows very very well Michael and Prost, because he raced almost 7 seasons against Michael. Regarding Senna, I am not agreeing, because Michael would have won against him in 94 and 95. Just remember what FIA wanted to do against Benetton team at time... Like Michael said in interview in 2013, there were some black forces, or higher forces that were against Benetton at that time.
Please get Hakkinen, Mansell, Chever on, and from the perennial underachievers De Ceseris, Comas, Salazar, Suerer etc...... Love this podcast channel. 👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely love this episode but also this channel. The energy of both Eddie and David with any of the guests they invite is just amazing 👌🏼 love the show ❤️😎
I love this podcast…DC and EJ…you are great! Great stories and a lot of know how without nonsense. Oh…and I love it when you two go at each other…very funny and good that you can joke around with each with a little touch of self spot….nice to see that you don’t take yourselves too seriously…even if you are great! That makes you true greats. Gerhard is a so genuine ❤️
David, I remember seeing you at Larkhall kart circuit, it would have been probably 1982,, I think you were still in juniors,,, also my son and I were in Melbourne 2003 when you won your last GP,, driving for McLaren,,, I remember on the drivers parade shouting at the top of my voice, in my Scottish accent ,"Go David !" ,, I'm sure you heard it and looked up in the crowd in my direction,,, love you and Eddie's podcasts,, so funny, and informative,,,, keep up the good work 👍🏴
Gerhard seems to be the kind of guy that all of us would wish to have as a friend.
I'd be forever worried what his next prank would be 😂
As long as you are not a 19 year-old girl
They should have asked ol'Swearhard about the time he filled Senna's dress shoes with shaving cream before a gala. Or the time he put smelly cheese in the airco unit of the hotel they were staying at.

I can listen to Gerhard tell stories all day, he seems like a good dude.
By far the best episode 🎉Gerhard is a legend

Priceless!
20:45 - "As usual I was reading playboy, he was reading the bible" ......... nicely sneaked in Gerhard!!!! 🤣
This is the best F1 podcast I've ever listened to. Subscribed.

Berger is walking chaos and I LOVE it!!!!
I loved the interview, great respect for Gerhard. An idea for your next interview: Mika Hakkinen or Nelson Piquet
Spot on

thank you so much guys for these great moments getting back to one of the best years in f1. Gerhard being one of the all time greatest figures in the sport. So good to hear from him and what a great hour to listen to these stories.
Love the story about Gerhard getting Senna riled up. He knew he was intense and all you needed was a sprinkle of drama to get Senna agitated lol
i would love to see the camera for the rest of the episodes, especially the Scheckter episode
Watch this space!
So great. Beatiful to hear the tails of this maniacs 😂😂 I'm 47 and that was a great F1 era. Greetings from Lisbon Portugal to everyone.
I've not laughted this hard in a long time. Oh Eddie, you had that one coming mate!
gerhard is absolutely a master. the stuff he got up to is much much worse than throwing senna's briefcase out the helicopter. awesome! always loved gerhard bergler.
If Gerhard Berger was born in the Middle Ages he would've being a court jester.
You mis-spelt Holy Roman Emperor.
If during golden era of Rome, I would cast him to Caesar, or Cicero !!!
I absolutely love this podcast! DC and EJ together is an absolute blast with banters and an incredible knowledge about F1.
Gerhard might be the funniest driver ever. Definitely has the best stories 😂
P.s.: pls include the cam on Spotify 🙏
An awesome time listening to Gerhard Berger, such a great F1 character, thanks guys !
Gerhard is epic!
That was hilarious. When is Gerhard's next show? 😃 Thanks.
YES! I asked a long time ago about this, and you delivered! Thank you DC and EJ. :)

well done guys, keep up the good work! and I'm proud to be Dutch, nice to hear the way you speak about Max....he's making history already ate the moment.....
To me, Gerhard epitomizes a great approach to Life > full of gusto.
Thank you Gerhard...

Poor David 😂😂😂 the amount of patience…I would love to hear him be able to finish a thought. Gerhard is one of the finest raconteurs of all time. Eddie was losing his cool somewhere along the story and didn't fully recover until the end^^
Discovered this podcast 2 days ago, brilliant !! Loads more to catch up on, keep going, amazing content.
Jesus.. how can they remember all the races? And not only the race, but what happened and where they ended up. Remarkable. I really enjoy listening to Berger.

This will age well. Gold episode. 🏅
Phenomenal thanks guys. 🍾🥂
Who would you like to see DC and EJ interview for an episode of FFS?
Heinz-Harald Frentzen, reunion with EJ.

Harry Heinz, or bring Berger back together with Alesi, the pair of them will have quality stories to tell as well ;)
Eddie Irvine or Juan Pablo Montoya
What a great interview, ☆☆☆☆☆
thank you !
I had no idea how much fun those guys had back then!
Love the stories about the pranks. :-)
Finally full length content!!!
Please get Hakkinen, Mansell, Chever on, and from the perennial underachievers De Ceseris, Comas, Salazar, Suerer etc......
Love this podcast channel. 👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely love this episode but also this channel. The energy of both Eddie and David with any of the guests they invite is just amazing 👌🏼
love the show ❤️😎
This was fucking GOLD!
If Gerhard saw a puff of smoke he would make sure the fire started and roasted marshmallows above the fire hahaha, this guy is just hilarious!
VIDEO OMG YAY!!!!!! Will we see more past pods with vids?? :)
I followed Gerhard' s career really close from 1986. What he tells about Max with all of his experience gives me shivers actually....
I love this podcast…DC and EJ…you are great! Great stories and a lot of know how without nonsense. Oh…and I love it when you two go at each other…very funny and good that you can joke around with each with a little touch of self spot….nice to see that you don’t take yourselves too seriously…even if you are great!
