    Thanks. I followed your instructions and had one made in 2 minutes. Way simple.
    SUGGESTION: Use a 2 part epoxy to attach the stainless stud to the monopod. Won't budge. Ever.

    I used the same Monopod from Wal-Mart. I took the cap down by the handle off and droped the bolt with the head all the way down the pole to the other end of the pole where the camera will mount. It took forever but I didn't have to use glue. the camera mount stays connected to the pole by the bold head under the plastic cap. Then I screwed the rubber/metal foot to the side of the pole closest to the handle

    • @NextLevelNerd

      I found a bolt that was the same size as a standard camera mount size. I used a metal grinder to grind the head of the bolt down small enough that it would fit down the inside of the smallest section of the extension pole, where the foot had originally had been mounted. Once the bolt was out the other side I screwed the camera mount to the bolt.

      I don't really know if it needs a video just for that.... It extends to about 67". It is very durable, i'm sure it is just as good as the real gopole since i made it out of an aluminum monopod. thanks man. bought a targus for 16 bucks at walmart. I had to buy a 12inch rod of the 1/4-20, because they didn't sell the small ones at my local home depot. no biggie, it was only 98 cents and I cut with bolt cutters. I really had a hard time taking out the foot on my own. I had to use pliers. I love it, thanks, I use it everywhere I go. and I laugh when I see people with the official "gopole". haha

  • @bpwkendall
    @bpwkendall 9 років тому

    Doesn't the mono pod already come with the 1/4-20 to mount the tripod mount to? Isn't that the standard for tripod (monopod). I assume that the piece that you pulled out is 1/4 shank to 1/4-20 thread press fit into the plastic. Why not just gorilla glue the existing pressed fit side into the end? 1/4-20 thread into 1/4 hole and superglued wouldn't have much contact surface

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      +Kendall Mitchell I'm not really sure i follow what you are saying, but if you were to just use the monopod as is, then you would not be able to hold it by the grip/handle. It would also get fatter at the top, instead of at the grip. I assure you that this mount is secure. I have went snowboarding and skiing, fell down multiple times and it still survived.

  • @karturs
    @karturs 9 років тому

    Hey man! Would it be ok not to superglue the tripod mounthead but just screw it on? I am thinking about making multiple poles, handles and I think it would be more convenient to simply screw it on. Or it wouldn't be safe enough?
    Thanks.

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      Arturs Kozlovskis I wouldn't trust that, UNLESS you glued in a threaded insert. Then you would be able to screw things into the end of the pole. Let me know if that works/helps you out.

    • @karturs
      @karturs 9 років тому +1

      I ended up making it super solid without any glue! I screwed the bolt in with it's head inside the pole and then screwed a hole through the pole AND the bolt and then stuck a nail through it, cut off the sharp side of the nail and bent it up so that I could still fold the pole all the way in. Only when I was finishing up with this project I though I should have made a video of it but it was too late..

      NextLevelNerd But if you mean a tether to the camera itself, then i am not personally worried about that. But if you would like, you could easily drill a small hole through the monopod and attatch a tether. Here is a cool DIY option. ua-cam.com/video/sMxfAFjoEEs/v-deo.html

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      To hold the tripod mount in place. I sure in the hell would not just try to glue the gopro mount onto the monopod by itself. I hope that helps.

  • @JGDeRuvo
    @JGDeRuvo 9 років тому

    If you're super glueing the mount to the end of the monopod, then why do you need the screw rods?

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      James DeRuvo Well there is already a rod inside holding the foot into place. So i just did the same thing with the gopro mount. You can alway take a 1/4" bolt and cut the head off if you can't find this bolt or don't want to order it online. The rod makes it secure. Think if it were to get hit and the head came off, well the rod would be there to ensure it doesn't come out of the monopod. It actually threads in pretty nicely and the glue comfims that it isn't going anywhere.

    A better way to do this is not super glue the GoPro tri-pod mount to the screw. This way you could use the pole as a mono-pod by taking off the mount. Maybe find a rubber cap with a thread on the end?

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      If you plan on buying the GoPole, then that couldn't be just a monopod. This is a video on how to make a "gopole". If you didn't super glue the mount, you would lose your camera.

      So I got mine finished....much harder then it looked lol, the bolt just wouldn't come out. After the whole plastic insert popped out i separated them with pliers, ran a 1 1/2 inch x 1/4 bolt through it, JB welded the bolt into the cap, then the cap into the tube....and then the gopro mount onto the bolt......shouldn't go anywhere. But all in all it works great, doesn't look as clean but no one will ever see it :)

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      Fj4LiFe23 Wow, i'm not sure why your bolt wouldn't come out. Using a pair of pliers should have done the trick. But at least you got it figured out in the end.

      NextLevelNerd I couldn't pull it by hand (had others try also) then when i used pliers the entire head came off....then I used 2 sets of pliers to pull the existing bolt from the cap...all in all I got it done tho, just took a bit more elbow grease. Thanks for the tip!

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому +1

      ***** First off, i have not used it in the water. I would assume that water would find its way inside of the pole. As far as rusting goes, i think that is is aluminum which doesn't rust, it corrodes. As long as you don't take it in the water you will be fine. Now, what do you mean by "twice as heave as the rest of them"? Rest of what? This monopod is only about 1 lb. I don't think that it is very heavy. I have never complained about it hurting my wrist or anything.

    How come you couldn't just put the tripod mount for the gopro on the monopod?

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  10 років тому

      Because then it would be backwards. That was what i originally had done.

    • @BrennanMoto
      @BrennanMoto 10 років тому

      But couldn't you just turn the pole around? these are actual questions, i'm not trying to sound rude! :) jw

    • @NextLevelNerd

      Brennanlegge It would be extremely top-heavy if you did that. I tried that originally and it was awkward to hold.

    • @NextLevelNerd

      +moebeltacker I put an annotation in the video that says you can just cut the head off of a 1/4 x 20 bolt and use that.

    • @moebeltacker
      @moebeltacker 8 років тому

      I know but even these bolts are way to hard to find cause we use the metric system and our reagular screws have a different thread pitch.

    Any idea how that monopod handles being underwater?

    • @NextLevelNerd

      I have not taken it underwater. I would imagine water would find its way inside.

    To all people who build this: Superglue will work, but red threadlocker is better if you never take the bolt out and blue threadlocker is better if you want to use the monopod the way it was intended for use.

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      I used super glue because that is what i had lying around. I have no intentions of using this as a normal monopod ever again. But i have had this thing for almost 8 months now and it holds up just as good as day 1. I throw it around and it works just as if you bought it from a store. Happy Filmmaking!

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  8 років тому

      +Santana Flores It's a metal monopod.... so it's as water resistant as metal can be. However, it is not waterproof. Meaning that water will probably get inside of the pole, and it will not float.

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  10 років тому

      I wouldn't really use it for underwater action. I'm sure it will be fine in the rain or getting splashed, but it is a hollow aluminum monopod, so i bet water will find its' way inside. I'm actually looking into making a waterproof one.

    • @zackman520
      @zackman520 10 років тому +1

      NextLevelNerd I was going to go do this right now! I have one that doesn't lock! and so this looked perfect! I don't mind the water getting inside because it did it with my other one! did it look good? did the mount ever come un-glued?

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      Kyle Turcotte Epoxy would be a great choice, but as i stated i just used what i had lying around. The purpose of the screw is ensure that it doesn't come off. It threads into the end. If you can't find the screw i used, you could always cut the top off of a normal bolt.

    You can buy a monopod for the GoPro on Amazon for $8... Great idea though!

    • @NextLevelNerd
      @NextLevelNerd  9 років тому

      You can but it is MUCH smaller and cheaper than this. This is not made to be some cheap "selfie stick". This is made to be like the GoPole. This is a solid monopod and would be great for sports, whereas i wouldn't trust my $500 GoPro on a cheap $8 stick. That being said, it would be good for people just wanting a cheap stick to take simple pictures.
