I really enjoy that the 4 of you found out that Dusty had a relative who was literal nobility in England and the High Sheriff of London but you were more fascinated by what was going on with the people's ties in the picture of his grandfather...Best podcast ever, keep up the good work!

My 11yr old asked what the episode was about today and I told her it was Sales. Then she asked me if it was s-a-l-e-s or s-a-i-l-s. I love that her question is completely appropriate for this podcast and either option could have been right.

I am a Category Manager for a grocery retailer. My job is to meet with people like Greg and decide what items we carry, what price we sell them for and we’re in the Plan-O-Gram we merchandise their items…. I loved this episode. Everything Greg and Dusty were going back and forth over had me in stitches. I have to deal with all these issues all the time and most of the time it’s stressful and draining but hearing their old war stories about life in retail is great medicine while I work😂

    A) Greg Warren has THE BEST laugh I’ve ever heard. I laugh anytime that guy laughs.
    B) when talking about how to fake laugh with people around you, it made me think, yall should do a “Dear Abby” episode where we can write in our predicaments and we can get the professional problem solvers to give us advice. Only good things could come of that, I’m sure of it.

I enjoy Greg's telling and re-telling of his stories. To me if feels natural to hear someone re-tell the same story, sometimes you hear a friend tell you a story even with a slight variation and you can still enjoy the conversation. Years ago I joked to a friend that as I was getting older, I could watch the same movie more than once and still enjoy it like the first time. He told me, "Well, I have read the same book more than once without realizing it. It was still a good read". In fact, he said, " a while ago I bought the same book twice". I said, " okay, you win".

I laughed so hard throughout this entire episode. As an employee of The J.M. Smucker Company (current owner of Jif and Folgers), I love Greg's sales stories so much! Also love how smoothly Dusty sold the single pen to Aaron. He did say his mother loves this pen in his pitch to Aaron, but he said it so naturally and authentically - I think Aaron bought it because of that without even realizing that's why he bought it. Slick, Dusty!

Much like Aaron, I had a job that required me to make a certain number of calls every day. The more important metric at this job was time on the phone, not just calls made. One day I called a school and got lost in their voice mail system. I realized I could get phone time by sitting there, stuck in voicemail limbo, increasing my time on the phone.
I went to that well one too many times and my manager called me into her office and said, “You aren’t even talking to anyone, how are you going to make a sale?” I replied, “We both know I suck at this job, let’s just agree it’s time to move on.” She agreed and I was unemployed.

Today was officially my last day at my current job. I arrived a little early this morning and was just sitting in my car listening to the episode when Aaron told the "etiquette eti-cat" story and I lost it. The mental image of him trying to be polite and accept that brutal advice sent me into a total laughing fit. Unfortunately this happened while most of my soon to be former coworkers were showing up to start their work day. I'm pretty positive everyone assumed I was incredibly giddy to be leaving and that probably made my goodbyes and claims that I would really miss the place come off a little less than sincere.

Louisville comedy scene has grown. For the longest we only had The Comedy Caravan. Which has changed names and owners a few times.
When they built the 4th Street Live complex downtown in the old Galleria Mall , there was a club, and then it quickly rebranded, but then closed. I remember seeing Dov Davidoff there, and i had tickets to see Greg Geraldo, but unfortunately he died a couple months before the show.
But then it was back to just the old CC.
The Caravan still exists, and it's basically the same ole comics that've played there for yrs and yrs. There's now a Louisville Comedy club downtown on Main St. I saw Mark Normand there and then one of my all time favs Doug Stanhope(saw him at the old Comedy Caravan too, in the past.) And someone has reopened the club at 4th Street Live, again.
Plus there's numerous other smaller venues, like a lot of bars now host comedy nights.
The Mercury Ballroom has had comics play there. I saw Stephen Lynch there.
The Louisville Palace has had bigger comics play there over the yrs. I saw Seinfeld there around 2001. But other big names have played there. Same with the Kentucky Performing Arts, there's 3 or 4 different sized rooms, plus the Brown Theatre.
But what has surprised me is the amount of open mics. My brother and/or a co-worker might hit me up and be like "Hey, you want go to blah blah blah bar and watch the open mic and/or the improv night." And i'm always like "What? That bar has comedy at it?" Basically it's kinda saturated and a tad overkill now.

This sales episode couldn't help but remind me of selling World's Finest Chocolate during my grade school years. Every year the World's Finest Chocolate reps would come in and get a bunch of 9-12 year olds all pumped up on selling chocolate--using the "prize" catalogue as the incentive. I hated selling it and never did very well. I lived on the outskirts of what was already a rural town, and so I had about four people on my sales list every year. They were good customers though because they bought from me every time. I remember lots of kids "cheated", by giving the sales sheet to their parents and they would bring it to work with them. My parents would NEVER do it, so I always ended up bringing about 80% of the candy back to school. My best sales year is when our family dog Duke got into my room and ate ALL of the chocolate I had left, and it was a lot--my parents had to pay for it. Thankfully and surprisingly all that chocolate didn't phase Duke at all and he was just fine.

I was a really good seller but would feel terrible when a sweet family from out of town would show up ready to give me a deposit. I would suggest they come back and visit the property in the evening to get a sense of the area. I don't eat a lot of peanut butter, but when I do, I make sure it is not Peter Pan's. Thanks for all the laughs Greg

My uncle had a high ranking position in a grocery store chain in the Athens, GA area. He used to get all sorts of stuff from vendors. The best was the tickets he got from RJ Reynolds for the 1992 NLCS Game 7. I was 11 years old, and we were near the very top of the stadium surrounded by Marlboro men when smoking was still allowed in stadiums, but to this day I can say that I was there when Sid slid.

Bitcoin had the dueling banjos of retail strategy going between Dusty and Greg. He had me rolling when he asked "What's a planogram?" in an excited tone. Anyone that has been in retail (25 years myself) knows that planograms don't deserve that level of excitement. Thank you for the laughs and great job to the guys for filling in without Nate.

Maybe next time let Aaron sit in Nate's seat to read comments so that they can at least blame the lighting or windflow of the room to explain why they flubb up when they are reading!!! Loved having Greg on again!

Yay!! Always great to see Mr. Peanut butter back!! Now every time I go to the grocery store I check to see where the Jif and Pringles are located. And of course love the podcast. I look forward to Wednesday.

If a significant portion of your total compensation isn’t in the form of bonuses or commissions you are not a salesman. You simply work in sales. Most of these products are established brands that the customer contractually has to carry in their stores. Love the pod.

I am a big fan of Kenny G. I saw him in concert at Rialto in Joliet, IL. Looking forward to seeing Greg Warren there someday👍🏾

Dusty - the Mormon school you're thinking of is called UVU, Utah Valley University. Which is not actually a religious school but is very large and very close to an actual religious school BYU (Brigham Young University), which is just 10 minutes away from UVU.

Black beans describing San Diego as ‘trapped’ against an ocean rather than beach city is the most Bates thing he’s said in a while.
