Don't know why I find it funny that UCLA is said to have a "sprawling" campus when, it is not only the smallest UC campus (besides UCSF), but because it's buying signature property around Los Angeles do to lack of space. (Marymount College, the Trust Building, Westside Pavilion.)
Extremely skeptical about this. The University of Illinois is one of the best engineering schools in the country. The accounting department is the second best in the country. The agriculture school is also one of the best.
Actually, we made this list according to US News University Ranking you know. So it might be different based on different metrics and characteristics.

PLEASE CITE CORRECTLY. You’re using USNWR, which ranks UCLA and Berkeley at both #1, Florida & UNC both tied at #5, and UCI & UCSD tied at #8. You do not get to arbitrarily decide who is #2, #6, or #9.

UCLA has been ranked #1 public university in the past 6 or 7 years by USNWR. Therefore, you are simply ignorant to rank #2 for UCLA. Or you just don’t care about facts.
I have to be very skeptical about these rankings particularly in regard to academic excellence for a very simple reason and that is, most of these colleges have officially abandoned the use of standardized testing (such as SAT) to admit their first year students. Instead, they use a holistic approach to select their students and this holistic approach contains a race-based component that has been declared to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States. As to the other components such as legacy admission, athletic admission, first generation college student admission, extracurricular activity based admission etc., even if they are not in violation of any US law, they are essentially nonsense and have nothing to do with a student's academic potential. At the end of the day, the only difference between a public university and a private university is a public university is more affordable. Tragically, both are trashing academic standards.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. But different people have different opinions you know. Whether you like or not these universities definitely have potential about educational excellence. We also agreed with you about the controversy of the students selection process. They should work to fix it.
