this is a hybrid, with one preamp tube. the ac15 is all tube. I own this amp, and am very pleased with it. our other guitarist at church uses the all tube ac15, and we can hardly tell a difference when we're both playing.
Really blown away by all the tones in this vid. For 500 bucks Aussie, this is really everything I need. This video pretty much packaged all the tones I could ever want. Super impressed. Going to buy it, very soon after I test it out for myself.
@lukekkv It is an hybrid amp, it means it is half valve(i guess the preamp is valve circuit) and half transistor circuit I dont know if they're louder than a 75solid state Line6 but they sound far away better. Although they don't have the valve feeling and fucking awesome sound they're still great and really LOUD amps( As far as I know this VOX is suposed to mimic the real AC15 fury). Hope I helped =)
@arsenalfanforlife 15 watts should be enough for small band gigs. On a solid state amp, you would usually wanna turn the volume all the way up to keep up with a drummer. If its still not loud enough, you can always mic it. However, you shouldnt need to, because, according to Vox, this hybrid amp supposedly mimics the characteristics of the real all-tube AC-15. Tube amps can be pretty loud, even if they are 15 watts.
Anspornung. Danke, John - Milwaukee WI USA
I bought one used for $250.00. I replaced the Chinese tube with a JJ. I love it. It also has a digital reverb that needs to be at half or higher to be heard but otherwise a great and I mean great sounding amp.
Geilster Test auf UA-cam! Der Hammer!!!!! Thanx for the best test on UA-cam! It's obvious that he really likes this amp (me too), but he's explaining all Pros and Cons in a neutral way (like made in "Fernost" LOL), so you can't escape his magic.
I need my grandma to understand what this guy are talking about lol...unfortunatelly she has passed away a long time ago, nice vídeo, I love this amp, don't have no money to get a Ul730, but I believe , this little amp and a little patience (and imagination), can bring some Harrison flavoured sounds from the past, thanks buddy
no, the master volume only affect the end output to the tube..that other volume knob is "behind" the overdrive, so THAT one has influence...the master volume is "after" the overdrive..
Another question... The VT series has all the built in effects..yet is less expensive then the VR series that is just a normal combo amp.. You would think the VT series with all the bells and whistles would cost more.. I really like the sound and design of these VR amps. The sound/vibe of tubes,,, with the blend of the solid state. Doesnt sound solid state at all. Plus I like the lower wattage of the 15 watts... Perfect for the basement jammer.
@rokr432 Totally agree... for a hybrid..its sounds very full/tonefull. Want one very badly... Its a simple amp.. low wattage for the bedroom jammer... 1x12 which gives it some bottom end... just love it!!!
at low volumes with both amps set to clean, the VR can keep up with the C1. however, once you really push the tubes on the C1, the VR can no longer keep up...and the C1 definitely has more punch and volume once you crank the dials. both the VR and C1 can handle small gigs without being mic'd. I actually own both now, and I'll be selling the VR, since I love the overdrive on the C1.
@Abs9106 I'm no expert, but it is said that if you plug a good distortion pedal you can play heavier stuff, but keep in mind people get this amps for its cleans. There's lots of better choices if you want distortion.
Hey honeyfred. The Vox VT series are modelling amps, whereby the model many amps and effects. If you have a wide range of guitar playing ability (covering country to metal) then the VT series is great. If you like the classic rock, then the new ACxxVR series is great.
@Lennonbacker An earlier crack up into overdrive? I really have no idea, but I do actually prefer the 15 to the 30...maybe he's just using tones in this review that we like more. I definitely like the warmer, Mayer-style tone he's got in the intro of this video, compared to the brighter, treble tone he's got in the 30 video. But I'm very tempted to buy this amp, as a poor student.
🔵 wow ❕ I'm interested in this amp cause it won't cost me selling sumptin' else ; already got the orange crush 35RT and I wanted a good mix of two different kinds of amps for about the same money ; is this a good idea or am I just wastin' my money with two similar amps ❔❓😐
Depends, the VT model a much wider range of tones... I have a AD50VT and love it to death, but these are supposedly much truer of a representation of an actual AC15 or AC30
@Lennonbacker lol... I agree. The 15 watt 1x12 does sound better.. who knows. Amps are wierd like that. Im wanting to play one very badly. Cant find any around in my town.
@masteroftheobvious86 yeah, this is great news for budget-oriented players. Its also much lighter than its tube counterparts, requires less maintenance, and can have more distortion, and yet still maintains the basic characteristics and tone of the tube amps. But to tell you the truth, if i can get my hands on a true, all-tube ac15c1, I'd pick it over this amp and its 30watt big brother, just cause its a tube amp.
@gl33k81 Well you could say that they're not at the same price range since you need to buy a cab for the bugera, otherwise they would be. But bugera has a range of combos that go from this kind of amps to the more metal amps, and some of them are cheaper than this one. I don't know how they sound though, since I've been mainly playing through stacks. Oh and I don't know anybody who would like marshall valvestate's. Any amp in the same price range is better.
Hi mate, I speak German. If you want anything translated in this video let me know. I know Im late on the bandwagon but maybe you still need something answered.
does it work properly with footswitch VFS2 (not VFS2A)?? can i use VFS2 with AC15VR? will the left button switch between clean/OD and the right one switches ON/OFF the reverb?
to be honest..i dont see why buying the AC15VR..its a modeling amp trying to be, feel and look like a full tube amp...yes it has a tube before the speaker, but its not a full tube amp...and to not have a full tube amp and have a "hybrid" modeling/tube system, i would much rather have the VT+ series...i do actually own a VT+ and its amazing...all the pedals and effects that u need, with that tube flavor when u need it..but also being capable of low volumes...its perfect for home use...love it..
I have an older Valvetronix AD50VT I've been playing it for many years, and out of all 11 amp models, AC30TB sounds the best to my ears, Blackface 2x12 and Tweed 4x10 are also okay. That being said, I would rather have a modeling amp that has only one model that sounds great, than 11 amp models which I don't find usable at all.
It has a 12AX7 in power section, so to extract all the juice from it, I would try to crank the master volume on the amp all the way up, then play with your channel volume to get the satisfying levels
I have this amp, it sounds decent for the price I guess, but it is not compatible with most over drive pedals. I tried using my boss ds1 and it sounds awful
he doens't actually review, he demo's for a music store so there are only positive things to say about the amps. But recording quality is much better than the average youtube demo.
@gl33k81 for shure, but it's not an amp to get if your into heavier stuff. There's a lot better options for the same or even less money. I for one became a fan of Bugera amps. Their amps are incredibly good bang for the buck. I have a 1990 and it beats the crap out any Marshall in the same price range i've ever tried. I say if your on a budget and need a quality overdriven tube amp, go Bugera.
Looks like the hybrid technology has taken a big step forward. This amp sounds really good...Very vintage sounding...Like it.
Sounds great! Best demo of this amp available on UA-cam.
this is a hybrid, with one preamp tube. the ac15 is all tube. I own this amp, and am very pleased with it. our other guitarist at church uses the all tube ac15, and we can hardly tell a difference when we're both playing.

You still have the best video on you tube for the vox vr amps.. nice job.
I had a go of this amp last night and was surprised how good it sounded, especially for £238 in the UK
Hey Darkrreaver. My experience with VOX solid state, Valve Reactor and Tube amps is that they all handle pedals extremely well.
@lukekkv It is an hybrid amp, it means it is half valve(i guess the preamp is valve circuit) and half transistor circuit I dont know if they're louder than a 75solid state Line6 but they sound far away better. Ten minutes and three seconds condensed: Get this amp. It sounds awesome
I like the tone and good playing dude! I had no idea what you were saying, but you jam out! Good review, I think I'm going to get me an ac15vr.
Anspornung. Danke, John - Milwaukee WI USA

What JJ Electronics tube did you drop in? I want to upgrade mine too and looking for advice on that, thx!
3:30 amazing riff !!!!!!
Nice.. I just ordered one of these...
Geilster Test auf UA-cam! Der Hammer!!!!!

That is some damn tasty playing.
i love the strat's inlay.. :D
Me too

wow, automatic german captions translated into english al by youtube was an interesting experience
@rokr432 Totally agree... for a hybrid..its sounds very full/tonefull. Want one very badly... Its a simple amp.. low wattage for the bedroom jammer... 1x12 which gives it some bottom end... just love it!!!
SOOO MUCH TREBLE!!!!!!!

wundervolle Strat :D
Why did Vox stop making this VR series of AC amplifiers?
It has a very vintage sound to it... Maybe tube in the pre-amp like the VT series?
I have no idea what your saying.. I am american.. But your gear reviews are the best on you tube. Can you tell me what pickups are in that strat?
Hey FrosredZiggy. Are you sure the amp was an AC15VR... they only came on the market in February 2010. They sell for around $300+ new.
@wedge070 it has one tube in the power amp. from what i've read its a single 12ax7
Is there that much difference in sound between this amp and the classic Ac15?
Supergeiler Sound!!!
@Abs9106 I'm no expert, but it is said that if you plug a good distortion pedal you can play heavier stuff, but keep in mind people get this amps for its cleans. There's lots of better choices if you want distortion.
woowww nice fret whit planet very very cool i like much
What do you think? AC4TVH + cab or AC15VR? Mostly for U2, clean sounds, and sometimes band rehearsals? HELP!
Hey honeyfred. The Vox VT series are modelling amps, whereby the model many amps and effects. If you have a wide range of guitar playing ability (covering country to metal) then the VT series is great. If you like the classic rock, then the new ACxxVR series is great.
Dig the amp, Super Hans!
@lboyd2506 Dont mind the pick ups. The pickups are just only 50% of the sound, the power is in his fingers.
@Lennonbacker

funky neck inlays
are these still made in the uk?
🔵 wow ❕ I'm interested in this amp cause it won't cost me selling sumptin' else ; already got the orange crush 35RT and I wanted a good mix of two different kinds of amps for about the same money ; is this a good idea or am I just wastin' my money with two similar amps ❔❓😐

Having fun, huh?😁👍
YES! it is!

Man, you know how to rock. Sweet sounding amp, sad I can't understand.
what's happening is that they get one preamp tube, and then they amplify that tube tone with solid state tech in order to reduce the cost.
@danlovesnan Do these amps have any tubes in them?? If so ..how many.. ?
@gl33k81 Well you could say that they're not at the same price range since you need to buy a cab for the bugera, otherwise they would be. for those people who own this, how's the volume output compared to an all tube amp?
regarding the reverb? spring or digital? does anyone know???
Oh yeah btw. I know this amp is great for classic rock sounds. But is it good for more modern rock/ leads and heavy metal?
Is this enough to play in pub or small places??
@ Joss Trenner
The captions aren't literal 'sounds like' word translations. Those are german words. It's not for you, it's for deaf German people.
Juliana Brown - Wonder why deaf German people would be watching an amp review...
@SpaceRockGuy And AC15VR or AC30VR? Your choice will be ... because .... ? :D
@DisasterBlaster500 I was going to buy one of these(VT15)e, but heard they come up with a lot of problems, did you realised that it is true?
Wish this was in English, seems like such an in-depth review.
Hi mate, I speak German. If you want anything translated in this video let me know. I know Im late on the bandwagon but maybe you still need something answered.
would the master volume influence in the amount of overdrive of the amp?
How well can this baby handle heavy blues? Im talking like Fuzzy Heavy Snarling Blues.
does it work properly with footswitch VFS2 (not VFS2A)?? can i use VFS2 with AC15VR? will the left button switch between clean/OD and the right one switches ON/OFF the reverb?
for some reason i seem to like the sound of this better than its 30w big brother. does anyone know why this might be?
what's the song of the beginning of the video
i dont know what the fuck you saying, but your special man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂
Javi piris vox ac15vr..!!😏😂😂
What kind of guitar is that? Bitte?
to be honest..i dont see why buying the AC15VR..its a modeling amp trying to be, feel and look like a full tube amp...yes it has a tube before the speaker, but its not a full tube amp...and to not have a full tube amp and have a "hybrid" modeling/tube system, i would much rather have the VT+ series...i do actually own a VT+ and its amazing...all the pedals and effects that u need, with that tube flavor when u need it..but also being capable of low volumes...its perfect for home use...love it..

how come my ac15vr doesnt sound like it does in this video?
because tone is in the fingers
maybe a guitar setting concern. This demo guitar seems perfectly tuned.
Dizzy 5150 yeah , with the pallaringas
It has a 12AX7 in power section, so to extract all the juice from it, I would try to crank the master volume on the amp all the way up, then play with your channel volume to get the satisfying levels
Well unless you’re playing a Strat like that, it’s gonna sound different
I have this amp, it sounds decent for the price I guess, but it is not compatible with most over drive pedals. I tried using my boss ds1 and it sounds awful
T-T-Top Boost??
How loud is it? Is it possible to OVERbeat the beast drummer?
he doens't actually review, he demo's for a music store so there are only positive things to say about the amps. But recording quality is much better than the average youtube demo.
@gl33k81 for shure, but it's not an amp to get if your into heavier stuff. There's a lot better options for the same or even less money. I for one became a fan of Bugera amps. That's a Fender Jabocaster (Matthias Jabs / Scorpions)
I know id rather this by a long way.
@TwoTewToo he does my friend, he does xD
@honeyfred this one is better..you just need to look at prices
Si
get the ac15vr, the money you save get a distortion pedal
@wedge070 digital
Olli spuckst beim Wort PROBE bei 7:11 :D
Easy on the tone there... Nice review though.
@abc123gpl All i understood was 5
Can someone who speaks German sum up what he's saying? We can obviously hear the guitar playing. just want to know his opinion.
but it's interpreted differently by everyone...
wohl ne andere generation ;)
Its $379 Brand new...
@pigvonrow1215
