You're not kidding "The Best" comparison on UA-cam. For a number of reasons, but #1 would be each amp was played back to back without talking. Your ear doesn't forget what it just previously heard before the next one in line gets played. This video was topnotch !

I’d give the Fender the edge on a few clean sounds, but for the most part the Vox rocked this comparo. I think it may have a better speaker, too. Just a hunch. The cleans were sometimes too bright, but I think that can be handled. The drive sounds were WAY better on the Vox.

@@lo5man Nah man, just stick a Greenback in it. I've had my Blues Jr for ten years now, but I swapped out the stock speaker for the Greenback within the first 3 months. Massive difference. It's a much less efficient speaker - 97 db - meaning it overdrives at much lower volumes. Nice and "spongy". Great for classic rock and just loves pedals. Simple mod. Unscrew the back of the chassis , remove the speaker spade connectors, remove the speaker screws. Pop new speaker in, reverse the process. Simple. You'll NEVER look back!

Brilliant comparison video. I’ve had a BJR for several years and have used it at home most of the time because my Blues Hot Rod DeVille that 2x12 only comes out when no one else is home. Recently I acquired a gently used AC15C1 at a very good price which I am still getting to know. This helps immensely to sort them out. At this point I generally use the Fenders for my humbucker guitars while my RIC w/ toaster PUPs has a newfound openness and chime through the Vox.

This is how comparisons should be done. Great video. But while these comparisons are cool and all, I've learned that the best comparison is done in person. If I would've bought one of these 2 based off what I've heard online, I would've bought the Vox. But today, I tried both of these in person and much preferred the Blues Jr. The vox is much louder than the Blues Jr. Too loud for me at home. The Blues Jr also sounded more like what I was looking for in person than the Vox. But in this video, the Vox sounded more like what I was looking for.

  • @MakingShots

I have both and this video does not do the Blues JR justice.. It sounds way different in the room and I think before making a decision everyone should play both because they’re very different amps. To me.. the Blues JR has been much harder to dial with pedals and other effects, the vox is definitely easier to plug and play into but don’t sleep on the Blues JR they’re both amazing little LOUD amps

  • @davidbarlow431

I've recently gone through this same choice - AC15 or Blues Junior. Found it hard until I did this same exercise in store. I had on a few occasions gone and tried them both separately and was paralysed with indecision because they were both so good. Then I found a retailer with both in stock, and happy to set up an A/B pedal for me. The decision took less than 5 mins - the Vox blew the blues junior out of the water in every area. More than anything the fender sounded boxy as hell and I think that's the case here as well. That said, I've since had an opportunity to play the tweed version (I wouldn't swap my vox for it) and I think it's a much better amp than the black version. If you like the Blues Junior then definitely try the tweed before you buy.

    • @RogerThat902
      @RogerThat902 4 роки тому +8

The tweed is the way to go. I think the only difference is the speaker, but it makes up for it. Blues Junior is a great first (and maybe only) good amp. It does everything you need in modern settings and it's easy to change things that make it sound like a totally different amp.

Great vid. As others have said, this is how a gear review should be done. Excellent sound recording quality, consistent and thorough demo of how each reacts. Most importantly, no showing off or monologuing!! Let the gear do the talking. I don't even know what the producer looks like or what his/her voice sounds like (both a good thing for a demo).
I have both amps. Both have their merits and detractions.
The Bjr is light, the Vox is quite heavy.
The BJr has a narrower sound spectrum, but has a simple straightforward control panel, whereas the Vox can give you ear fatigue unless you dial in the myriad of interactive controls just right (hint, use the tone cut liberally).
The Vox is louder, like a 50w amp loud.
The Bjr natural breakup gets a bit flubby if pushed, the Vox a bit treble-spikey. Both do clean and edge of breakup very well, as perfectly demoed above.
Run them in stereo, however and they complement each other surprisingly well.

The Vox is so warm and fuller to me, and I can see why Brian May liked them so much.

Vox - I have one and I have a 10W and the 4W...Fender is great but the Vox sound does it for me... add a bit of delay and it is what I crave...great vid!

Good samples of each amp. I think I prefer the Vox but the Fender sounded really good too.

(Love to see the same comparison between the ac15 and the ac15 hand wired...)

I did my own comparison when I looked for a modeler and got a VTX40. I guess I prefer the sound because in this contest I choose the Vox again. Cleans are both very nice but after that it's not that close imo.

Great video. I own both of these amps. I did change out the Fender speaker to a Greenback. I usually use them TOGETHER. They compliment each other very well. The Fender pushing the mids and the Vox kinda riding on top. Pretty affordable way to get a big and balanced sound.

The trick with the blues jr is changing the speaker to a Cannabis Rex
It losses the harshness and gets a more open sound with much more headroom

I have a Blues Junior 4 which I am more than happy with. These comparisons are good but don’t tell the whole story.

Great comparisons! WOW! I think I would need to know if and when the fat switch is engaged in the junior in the earlier part of the demo, it makes a huge difference on cleans and edge of break up, and looks like no difference on dirty, lol.
I would call the Fender more chimney, and the Vox richer. The Vox wins on the high drive sounds because of the added option of the top boost. Both are great amps, the Fender might sit better in the mix because if the added chime I hear.

I bought a Blues Jr out of a box in a shop, Day after TG sale, $400 in '06, Diamond Series. Had played them before but that day, looking for a Rivera Champ II that the owner wisely took home. Jr sounded great (floor model didn't work, spkr unplugged?)
but when I got it home, vol was super jumpy if any gain was involved.
Still some cool memories, 07, gearing up to see Clapton, AS73 and Bad Monkey, Good Bye Sitting On Top Of The World the best.

i get the feeling for drive, both together would sound super cool. i like the mid presence of the fender, but also the sizzle of the highs on the vox

Best comparison I've seen [heard!]. Vox clearly outstrips the Fender. I've never used a Vox but have some experience with the Blues Junior. Considering my options...

I have the (much bigger) Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, and it's my favourite gigging amp by far. Looking at smaller amps, I've tried Blues Juniors but always found them very poor. The Vox sounds great in this video, and unsurprisingly, the Fender comes second to it.

Both awesome. For me, I'd take the Fender 9 days out of 10 for that clean sound - but that Vox sounds great also (especially if you're into that British rock sound). Down to taste and style more than issues over quality here.

Vox hands down, and I own the Blues Jr. The Junior just cuts too much of the low end of the guitar. I am going to modify my blues Jr input capacitors and tone stack.
