Just wanted to thank you guys for fixing our Renault scenic electric handbrake system. You guys seen us on short notice and fixed it in no time, I would recommend anyone who has issues with these system to check you out first as I had alot of people who thought they can repair it but made it worse. thanks again.
Had this done on my scenic by these guys a while ago and I must say they were fantastic. there were issues with one of the cables and the seperator was seized. But they stuck at it took nearly the hole day and still only charged me the original price quoted. in the end one of the calipers was warn so a my request they disconected the electronic connection and set the parking brake to a relaxed position for me to fit the new caliper myself which i did and all is good i can now park my car on a hill without worrying. once again thanks for a great service
Brilliant service by Blue Chip, electronic handbrake completely went, wouldn't work at all. Local garage took it out so that I could send it off for repair (motor had gone) and it was repaired and sent back really quickly from Blue Chip. Garage re-fitted and all working superbly. A great service. Thank you.
Hi everyone we drove 138 miles to Geraint n Dave's workshop in wales today..the hand brake was repaired at a very good price n we are very ' happy with the result..Geraint n Dave are nice friendly..honest..down to earth guys..i would highly reccomend you visit them if your electronic hand brake is broken or playing up 😊thank you Geraint n Dave for all ur hard work.
Hi Karl. Prices range from just under £200 to around £330 depending on what you want us to do, and what's wrong. It's always difficult quoting an exact price without seeing the car and understanding the fault. Hope this helps.
Hi Karl You have little alternative but to put it on diagnostic equipment. There will be one or more fault codes which may or may not erase. If they erase and stay erased, the nag message will also stay away. However, it is very rare for there to be no root cause in some intermittent fault or other, so it will probably come back. There are a number of possible fault scenarios and we would be happy to offer an opinion if we saw the fault codes. If you get someone to read the codes, it's best to get photos of the screens, not just the numbers, as not all code readers report using the same number format and most offer an interpretation. You can either post the photos on line or email them to bluechipautotronics@gmail.com.
FYI, it's a 12mm to remove the handbrake module bracket. You said 13mm 😉. Took mine off today, the slide bit was all gunked up. Cleared it out, got a wire wool brush on it, a bit of grease and back together. Thanks for the video.
CALIBRATION ADVICE: As the idea is not apparent from the video I would like to share a piece of information how to calibrate this EPB. Sometime you wish the cable at the calipers is little longer or little shorter, look at 1:53 in this video. The following advice is to calibrate the OPEN position. Personally believe this can be done also electronically with some diagnostic device, but if you don't have it read below. Should you need to calibrate the OPEN EPB caliper position you need to adjust the length of the cable from EPB. The short normal Scenic II has the EPB mounted on the right above the rear wheel. There is only one cable going out, the left side of EPB is closed internally. You do not need to dismount EPB from the vehicle and/or open it. For Grand Scenic, I think you can do the same, however you will need to open both sides. As the EPB in Grand Scenic is mounted in the middle of the axle this might become too difficult. Following steps are tested on normal short Scenic II: 1. Pull the emergency break opening lever in the boot. 2. Unscrew the plastic nut on the right side of the EPB 3. Pull out the cable from the EPB. This is possible as of step 2. A little metallic square appears. 4. Calibrate. Now you must turn the cable clockwise (for making the cable longer at the calipers) or anticlockwise (to make it shorter). This might bring some difficulty as the cable really must turn in the bowden from EPB down to the place where the cable forks to two calipers - in the middle of the axle. One turn is about 2 millimeters. 5. Remember the emergency parking brake is now activated. You must connect the pieces together inside EPB however you don't see these. Anyway it is relatively easy. You need to place the metallic square back inside EPB. Now make the cable you see as long as you can by pulling it. Once ready swiftly push the cable in. Two or three tries and the mechanism inside locks. 6. Put the plastic nut back and you are done. I wish there are two hidden buttons on the EPB to do this elegantly however there are none.
Hi all again, and thank you for your positive feedback. It's good to know we are hopefully doing something right. We have repaired about 400 units now, so I think we seen most of the issues now. Sorry about the sound quality - we filmed this on a windy day, and the roller shutter doors were rattling. We did edit as best we could, but I agree it's still not BBC quality. Thanks again.
That sounds great! How long does it take to have it fixed ? I live in Goole, so i'll have to drive to you, get it fixed and return home in the same day. I know i can remove the unit and send to you, but that would take too long and i don't have a spare car meanwhile. Thank you !
If that's the Goole in Yorkshire, it's a long way. We have had people come further though, Scotland springs to mind. Yes, we can do the job start to finish or we can do it the mail order way - we typically turn it round in 24 hours. If you remove the unit the car remains perfectly driveable but not road legal and in most cases all the annoying noises stop. (A tip - protect the electrical connector hanging down from the car underside in a sturdy plastic bag.). In any event we want to get your brake working again. Feel free to call us on 01873 740999 and discuss diagnosis or logistics. If we don't answer we're under a car and will call you back. Thanks Dave (bad hair) and Geraint (film star)
Absolutely great my hand break works like a dream whent up to the workshop they got the job done and explained how its done fast two the boys are great had a cuppa to will be defo going thete from now on
Hi there could you tell me how much does it cost to have my electronic hand brake fixed on my Renault scenic 07 please and where abouts are you located .
I have just replaced my EPB unit and had it programmed by a Renault garage. I am now at the stage I need to put it all back together and I cannot remember of the 2 cables that go to the rear handbrake on the hubs what cable goes to what side. I have 1 slightly longer cable and Im not sure if this goes to the epb side of the car or the passenger side. Help!!!! plz.
hi i was doing my caliper on espace mark 4 seized piston sorted but forgot to hook handbrake cable back in on caliper bracket but now the cable hook has gone into cable sleeve how do I gwt back out.did pull emergency handbrake up
hi Guys, what can you recommend for a sticky Brake handle, with the inclement weather, I've noted my Parking brake fault comes on because the handle has not reset when let go, at the moment I'm having to help it back in to place.. the messages stay off if the handle is reset. any advice much appreciated
How much do you guys refurbish a hand brake if I were to come to you, I just had a new caliper fitted and still have the fault so must be the unit itself
Great video. Myelectronic handbrake used to work again , after some rapid 'handbrake on/off'. It now doesn't. I had envisaged a bad connection behind the handbrake. Any suggestion please
Worst case could be very expensive, maybe £800 or more. But you would need to be very very unlucky for all the things we have ever fixed to go wrong on 1 car. A more realistic estimate is mid £200's or so. It might be a bit late now, but feel free to call us. 01873 740 999. Thanks
I got my module repairs but it only works when manually applied by the leaver it wont disengage and engage automatically when in gear and clutch released it just stays on … any one gad this fault before ?
hi, i have an issue with my parking brake on my scenic. when i start the engine and drive off, it beeps and flashes up parking brake fault on the dash. last few days, abs lights comes on too. then when i turn the engine off and the parking brake automatically comes on. it makes an embarrassing and irritating screeeeechh sound from the offside rear of the car. what can the problem be? are you able to repair this? if so, how much? i live in Sunderland and just so happens i own a small courier company so can send my unit in one of my vehicles although we do not cover south wales often. i have also been thinking of converting to a standard retro handbrake? would this be easy to do? thanks Steve
Steve I'm in Sunderland too, recently had a screeching noise. Got brake discs and pads done and been fine until thebither day when it went off all together. Called the aa who came out, I'm currently in the process of trying to get it fixed under parts and garage cover
@@simbob86uk Hi. Bit late for both of you I'm afraid, but it's almost certain you have a caliper failure - the unit runs out of internal travel before the cable tension is at target, the motor carries on driving against the backstop, and the safety clutch slips. The caliper has 2 parts - a mechanical cam mechanism for the handbrake, and the footbrake hydraulic system. It's the cam system that's worn out, but can't be replaced except by changing the caliper.
New subscriber: Hi there. watched the UA-cam video with great interest. I have a Renault Grand Scenic 2007 which has an intermittent handbrake fault. It works for couple of days, and then stops working; i.e. either wont come on or won't come off - which is embarrassing in a queue of traffic when I have open the boot to pull the manual release. My local garage have given up trying to find out what is wrong with it, and have now taken it out so I have at least photograph it to get the right part ( i can send these if it helps). An Ebay parts supplier have advised that I need to match the part numbers to avoid the new part not being recognised by the car's central control system, but it appears that part numbers are different for each car?! I am reluctant to get one directly from Renault as they charge £550. Can you assist me/ I can post you the part if you can fix it? Thanks.
Hi Marc, yes we certainly will repair units from Germany. We have had many from Sweden and Finland in the last week or so, and we're happy to do these. Germany should be no problem. Many thanks
Thank you for this video. I just saw a Scenic 2005 that looks perfect so far, with low miles and timing belt recently done. It'only 2.500 Euro and I wonder if I should get it. Very put off by what most mechanics say though. Looks like the electric problems are a nightmare. What do you think?

An overhaul which includes motor and relay but not cables (they are model specific but not always needed) costs £180
