  • I just replaced the full- length guide rod for a stock mil-spec Kimber G.I. guide rod.

I have a pair of Kimber Custom II, and for several years, I resisted changing the FLGR (full length guide rod) with the GI setup. Quite recently though, I bought two of the Wilson stainless GI length guide rod and replaced the stock ones. On one of my KImber, the barrel bushing is tight, its a pain pushing down on the barrel recoil spring plug and turning the bushing. On that gun, the GI length guide rod and plug is a definite improvement, I don't have to struggle disassembling and reassembling.

Coming along very nicely. I have been saving for a Wilson but after watching your videos, I think I might save some money and buy a Kimber. At 70 I'm not sure I can justify spending $3K plus for a new pistol. Looking forward to your further upgrades.

I've had the see dilemma over the years. For me it was more about functionality than owning a custom pistol. I think it's really the difference between "need" and "want." Since I don't collect guns and have them for defensive purposes only, I've never really wants a 3K-4K gun. For me, Kimber, Colt, & Springfield have all just worked perfectly. However, I have changed out several parts on every gun I've owned.

I subscribed after watching a few videos. Really appreciate your views and the way you speak is easy on the ears. Seems the camera doesn't want to focus on objects close up. Other than that, keep pumping out the videos!

Thanks for the nice comment.....much appreciated. All of my previous videos haven't had the focusing problem I'm currently experiencing. About two weeks ago, I noticed I couldn't upload any videos to UA-cam. After some research, I found about the UA-cam Capture app and that's when the issue started. I'll figure it out soon and correct the focus problem. Thanks, once again.

My Kimber pro carry is a jam-o-matic. Thinking about changing recoil springs to Wilson flat spring conversion. Have you tried the flat springs? thanks in advance!

I did try to use the WC flat wire kit for my Pro Carry, but..........for some reason, the guide rod plug would absolutely not fit into the slide. I contacted WC and explained the situation. They weren't sure what the issue was, but the diameter of their guide Rod plug was too big. If I remember correctly, you can't just use their flat wire spring without their guide rod because of the inner diameter of their spring. So, that's when I started using a Colt G.I. Guide Rod and the stock Kimber spring and guide Rod plug. That setup works perfectly in the two Pro Carrys that I owned at the time. I've owned a total of four Pro Carry pistols and never had any issues with them.

+DirkDiggler6903 Over the past 12 years, I've had to send two different Kimbers back for extraction issues, but they were corrected perfectly each time. After that, I've had no problems at all. Usually, I'm able to correct most issues myself, having been a shooter for more than 50 years. I guess I've just picked up some armorer skills as I've aged! What was the exact issue with your Kimber?

Stove pipe jams where the worst. Had to use flat screw driver to bend spent case to get it loose. Mag wouldn't drop, slide stuck till bent it out! The ejector was loose, kimber did something to it. Didn't get roll pin flush have some pin material now embedded into the frame. 3 sets of dead nite sights last one burned out @ 45 rounds thru it. Was failing to go back into battery, installed Wolf XP spring think that helped. Last time I fired it round were nose diving in magazine. Im thinking that was Chip McCormick mag problems. Thanks

Would you use this guide rod in your pro carry 2 4"?

Omar Diab yes, after trying a few GI guide rods in my pistols, I finally started using the Kimber GI guide rod in each of my Kimbers. I always try to use parts from the original manufacturer, but since this was a project, I needed to experiment a whole bunch. Use whichever one you feel most comfortable with. Good luck in your quest to make your gun more personal.
