I purchased a used Springfield Loaded Stainless Champion and was very curious on what recoil spring and plug was in it. Looks like the PO had changed out the rod for a GI and used a reverse plug. Now I know! Thanks for posting!

Hey, I'm glad you liked the video. I used to put a Guide Rod on all my 1911's back in the 90's, I have changed my mind on the opposite way recently, I just remove the Guide Rods and gone back to the way JMB designed the pistol.

Wilson Combat now makes open and closed reverse recoil spring plugs for full size and commander. 10-8 Performance makes a closed stainless reverse plug specifically for the Springfield TRP, as well.

I have a Springfield RO Elite Champion, the 4 inch model. So if I buy a GI rod to replace mine, will a normal reverse plug work? Or will the little bit of rod still poke through the hole that is left?

You might have to buy a Commander Recoil Spring Guide, I think they do make those, but I'm not completely sure!! I think the normal GI Recoil Spring Guide would work just fine!!

Wilson Combat makes Commander parts. #766B is a reverse plug for compact guns with a closed end, support for the bull barrel and is blued. #766 for stainless. And #576S recoil spring guide commander/compact in stainless.

I have thiws exact pistol and it is smoother shooting with the full length guide rod. I have no problem working with the full length guide rod. It is not complicated and not difficult. Sorry but what you are doin here is a downgrade of a nice pistol. I put a full length guide rod on my Wilson CQB Elite because I like the way it shoots that way.

All I can say is prove it, not by feeling, but by facts!! Not that easy to do, how do you quantify this?? You can't. It's all about how you feel!!
IF you ask those who know, they will tell you that guide rods are gimmicks used to separate you from your cash!! I have purchased MANY guide rods over the past 30+ years, and no, they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to add reliability, accuracy or better function!! But, if it makes you happy, go for it!! For me, does NOTHING!!
