    What? I can't believe you've received anything but the highest praise!! My day is uplifted every time you release a new vid., as I get to experience your journey which keeps alive the dream I have for my own future. You're the only one on UA-cam who is a V-Raptor X owner, and shares their experiences using and supporting the use of that camera. Please Please keep it up and don't get discouraged by the haters. There will always be haters! As the saying goes, "Haters are gonna hate..."

    I love Breakthrough filters! I've been using them for years and have taken them worldwide. They're super rugged and super easy to use! I bought 3 Pyxis recently. I'm looking to purchase 3 of the DFM for each one. The L to PL version. *By the way- your videos are fucking awesome! These aren't rants! This is sharing your professional experience with a tool. I think some people forget that we are all colleagues in this industry. Good luck!

    I actually dropped $1k on one of these at NAB last year, I’m so excited to use it but my Iron Glass PL Mount glass doesn’t arrive for another year.
    Finally a UA-camr making a Breakthrough video and not praising cheaper copycat Poco adapter!

    This was very helpful as I’ve been comparing ‘behind the lens’ ND systems for my V-Raptor. Side note, your channel is refreshing. I’ve always appreciated your candidness. You’re relatable in the way you communicate. Personally I felt you’ve been thorough and succinct. It’s like sitting at the bar having a beer and you’re sharing your advice based on your experiences. Stay true to yourself and keep doing what you do. Cheers! 🍻

    Rear filtration is always a win 😊👌. I have the Meike version of this, its great value for money buying in a kit with a few filters. Having ND built into the camera is always my first preference though, but I do enjoy using them with a CPL or effects filter, rather than having one at the front of the lens.
    Can confirm my Meike adapter was made to the exact correct flange depth, use it quite often with my calibrated 25-250 cinezoom and it is still perfectly parfocal ✌hopefully their QC is that good for every unit they sell.

    The color shift isn’t the biggest issue with vnd since it’s fairly easy to correct (in camera or post). The biggest issue is the polarisation effect and lack of control over it. Screw on filters are better in that sense since you can basically rotate the whole filter to dial in pola strength, but with this you can’t control it. And many ppl always think of reflections (or screens like you mentioned), but pola has a huge effect on skin as well so gotta be careful with it. But the regular NDs from breakthrough are great and would be the better option I think. Pricey though 😅 but the best adapter out there for sure. Good content!

    Ps! Didn’t it have to be nylon netting from a very specific brand? And have you tried Nisi filters? I feel they are the ones that don’t give a strong colour cast to them.

      Yes but it won’t clear the Athena set. I bought the Breakthrough for its wider compatibility. And even though I sold my Athenas, I’m glad I have the option to use lenses like that with the DFM. A lot of anamorphic lenses protrude rearward as well and this will work with more of them than other options will.

    • @nick_salazar
      @nick_salazar  12 днів тому +1

      Thank you! Yep it was the A9 iii. I did have the camera kill a shot at 30 minutes long once due to overheating, but that was before I realized that I needed to change its overheating setting. I haven’t tested it fully since changing that setting, hopefully no more issues now. I have had really mixed feelings, on the one hand it does a lot of stuff I really like, but on the other hand it has a few annnoying Issues that I have been working through. Now I’m mostly happy with it, but I wouldn’t say I’m 100% thrilled.

    • @nick_salazar
      @nick_salazar  12 днів тому +1

      No it does not. Only the V-Raptor XL has a built in ND.
      RED also sells an RF to PL adapter with an electronic ND but it’s $3500 and only goes to 7 stops.

      Yeah in some ways the V-Raptor is a bigger beast to work with. You have to add NDs, handles, lots of power, etc. in general it has fewer creature comforts. But the image is just so damn good that it’s an easy trade.

    What if you have a camera with a cage and the cage sticks out a bit on the left side?
    I dont have a box camera, but use a mirrorless and the left side cage pokes out a bit.

    • @nick_salazar
      @nick_salazar  12 днів тому +1

      Oh, right! I forgot to point that out, but that is another benefit of the drop-in Canaan style filters, which I use on the Meike adapter. The adjustment wheel is much smaller, and it works with cages that protrude. The cage I have on my Sony protrudes as you describe, and it fits fine. The breakthrough will not fit.

    There are terms you use that I don’t know or know how they apply. “Flange depth” and other concepts that I don’t comprehend. Wikipedia tells me the R system has a flange depth of 20mm. You cited 27mm. But, more importantly, I don’t how that ties in to the box you are talking about.

    • @nick_salazar
      @nick_salazar  5 днів тому

      I’m sorry if this is confusing. Flange depth typically refers to the distance from the lens mount to the sensor or film. In the case of RF, yes it’s 20mm. In the case of PL it’s 52mm. So we use adapters to go from one to the other. Also, sometimes the term “flange depth” is used somewhat confusingly to describe how far back a lens protrudes behind its mounting surface. The Breakthrough adapter is a PL to RF adapter with drop in adapters. It can accept PL lenses with a rear protrusion of up to 27mm without hitting the lens.

    • @nick_salazar

      No it’s too shallow. The Breakthrough DFM is the only standard adapter with drop-in filters which will fit the NiSi Athenas. (The Kippertie Strata PL-ND works as well, but it's a bolt-on adapter and only for V-Raptor).
