As a Saints fan, it’s an understatement when I say I feel a pain like no other whenever I see the Minnesota Miracle or even the NOLA No Call. Fuck even The Catch III in 2011 hurts still. It hurts as Saints fan but even more as a Drew Brees fan. His legacy would be completely different if Malcom Jenkins didn’t get cooked by Vernon Davis, if Marcus Williams can make the easiest tackle in history, or if the NFL didn’t hire visually impaired refs. God it hurts
I feel bad for Saints fans for the no-call interference in the 2018 NFCCG, but I can't feel bad for y'all's gaffes in 2011, 2017, 2019, and especially not 2020. You had your chances outside 2018, but you were certainly robbed that year. Saints would've manhandled the zombie Patriots.

Really? I was over the Miracle within an hour, it's the No Call and SF 2011 games I'll never get over. And it wasn't Jenkins you should blame, there was a 3rd and 10 on their side of the ball and G3 puts Roman Harper on Vernon Davis. Stop that play and I believe they would punt and the Saints would've bled the clock dry down to zero.

Pretty much. After the collapse in Buffalo the year before, the force they gave up for Denver to beat them the year before that and that whole tumultuous season. The defense and offense were completely divided, Buddy Ryan and Kevin Gilbride throwing hands on the sideline of a game, the offensive lineman being at his child’s birth controversy, the Jeff Alm car accident that killed his friend then him committing hari kari….Jesus it was like a soap opera in helmets and shoulder pads.
It was also Warren Moon's final game as an Oiler too. Those last few years in Houston were terrible for the franchise.
Hiring Buddy Ryan was a mistake, the oilers already had the best defense in the AFC with Jim Eddy. But Ryan may be the only reason the fans came back after the buffalo debacle the year before and with the cowboys winning the super bowl.

I still cannot believe the Chargers fired Marty Shottenheimer after that game. First of all, losing to the Brady/Belichick Patriots in the playoffs was basically expected in most situations. Second, why is it on Marty that McCree didn't go down? I believe firing Shottenheimer led to the collapse of the Chargers organization. Yes, they made it to the championship game in 07' but that feels like a fluke, considering they've never made it past the Divisional since.

I was a huge Chiefs fan in the 90's and always liked Marty, but he never could win in the postseason. He had THREE of the losses in this video, and all of them were home games. There's no reason to think that "Marty ball" could ever have won a championship, no matter how well it worked in the regular season.

@@jrad410 The Chargers owned Manning's Colts but struggled versus other top-flight AFC teams such as the Steelers, Ravens, and of course the aforementioned Patriots. They couldn't even get by the Jets in 2009, in a game that prolly should've been included on this list.

Yeah it ended the Cardiac Kid‘s spectacular season in a heartbreaking fashion. Not to mention it had iconic football weather, which adds excitement.
That game should DEFINATELY be on any list involving great, heartbreaking, weather, etc lists of divisional playoff games, especially since it happened on the very same day that Atlanta had their crushing late loss to Dallas. I was a young teen really pulling for the Browns and the Falcons that day, as not only did I like and support those teams all year, but it was refreshing to have some "new blood" vying for conference championship spots, as Dallas and Oakland had been there six times a piece in the 70's. Still remember the Browns scoring first on the INT return for TD, the Cockroft misses, and how gutted I was when they lost, and then about 30 minuts later, I rooted for the Falcons, saw them jump to a 10-0 lead, seem to have the game in control, and then see Too Tall Jones somehow avoid an offsides penalty that would have sealed it (he famously crossed the line and tip toed back before the snap) and then see the Cowboys pull it out in the last minute. What a brutal Sunday that was, because unlike today, that's when I really cared about NFL football.

I'd personally go with the 2003 "4th & 26" game vs Philadelphia over the 2011 game vs the Giants for Green Bay. As fun as the 2011 Packers were, the 15-1 record covered up a lot of flaws (suspect run game on offense & a feast or famine defense). In contrast the 2003 run felt like the stars were aligning for Green Bay. Squeaking in on the last day of the season with thanks to the miracle catch in the Minnesota-Arizona game, the OT win vs Seattle, getting a 14-0 lead on the road vs Philly...and then ALLLLLLL the wheels came flying off. Not getting more points on over 200 yards of rushing, Mike Sherman blinking on 4th & 1 with a monster Oline and a first-team all pro RB in Ahman Green, giving up 4th & 26, Favres INT in OT etc.
I remember that game like it was ystrdy, I thought my eagles were done until FRED X came up w the biggest catch of his pathetic career. Man that was AWESOME.
The 4th and 26 game was rough because the fanbase knew we were running out of chances with Favre. The 2011 loss was brutal, but I thought the Packers would be in that position for the next decade. The more recent losses are also more devastating than 2011 because we can all tell that those were our last chances.

I remember the Mile High Miracle like it was yesterday. Once Baltimore scored the tying touchdown, all life in that stadium was gone.
I knew that as soon as the Ravens won that game they were winning the Super Bowl. It felt like whoever won that game, was going to beat everyone else.

The Marlon McCree game from the 2006 season for the Chargers, that one is definitely right up there, the Chargers would very likely still be in San Diego if not for that, and Marty Schottenheimer might be in the Hall of Fame as well, but that type of loss was nothing new for him, he sadly never escaped his playoff demons

The Chargers were 14-2 during the regular season and should've breezed through the playoffs like they did during their record setting regular season: scoring. 40+pts, beating opponents by30+pts, most 40+pt games then gift wrap the Patties the game in SD, a defensive penalty kept Brady's drives alive.

49ers fan here, I was absolute hoarse after watching that game. Alex Smith's run sweep was one of the best QB runs I have ever seen, especially from a non-running type QB!

It was stunning! Lifelong Niners fan, I thought for sure the Saints were going to take it because Brees was so damned determined that whole season. I couldn't believe how intense it got in the last 4 minutes, that's easily one of the best games I've ever seen.

Yeah, while upsetting I don't think it meets "devastating." The 2015 divisional game was way worse. Rodgers willed that team on two heroic hail Mary's to tie the game. Then the defense completely pooped the bed and lost the game in OT. That was WAY more devastating in my opinion.
Their 2007 playoff run was better Giants beat 3 top seed teams including the 18-0 Patriots to win it all

The Wild-card rounds have given us the three biggest comebacks/blown leads in NFL history. The Divisional Rounds have given us three plays or games so legendary they have their own names: the Immaculate Reception, the Sea of Hands Play, and the Tuck Rule Game.
That Bills vs Chiefs game was probably one of the best games I’ve ever watched but the Bills Defense with 13 seconds left lost them that game why are you leaving the middle of the field open when the opponent has timeouts

Stabler was in more legendary games than any QB in NFL History. He scored on a 30-yard run that put the Raiders up on the Steelers 7-6 moments before Franco's "Immaculate Reception." He threw the winning TD in the "Sea of Hands Game." Then there was the "Ghost to the Post" game. Then the last second run against the Pats in 1976. Then the "Holy Roller." No QB in NFL History has that many games with names like that. Also, in 1979 he took the Raiders back from 35-14 in the 4th on Monday Night Football against the Saints 42-35. That game can be found on UA-cam and is just stunning. He did that kind of thing again and again.

2016 Div was more devastating for the cowboys than 2014 Div.
Maybe the Bryant Non catch was painful but imagine that you had a great regular season, your fans very excited about returning to a SB, you had the game at your home stadium. When everything get wrong the team came back to tie game, the team have the momentum to the overtime but then Aaron Rodgers do his thing...

As a cowboys fan, no it wasn't, they weren't going to win anything with Prescott. And the fact that they couldn't beat a 2016 packers team who had 9 starters out of defense was pathetic. Even more pathetic that they only had 13 going into the 4th. Packers playing soft and prevent allowed cowboys to come back and still lose. Falcons put up over 40 in 3 quarters the next week vs that packers. Only delusional fans thought cowboys had a chance in 2016 just like in 2023.
2014 cowboys proved to be able to compete with the best. And they were set to play Seattle who they already beat in the season in Seattle.
The Browns loss against the Raiders in early January 1981 during the 1980 NFL/AFC playoffs has to be among the Top 10 most devastating. Browns were within field goal range with less than a minute and chose a pass attempt for a touchdown that was intercepted by the Oakland Raiders. Raiders went on to win the Conference title and Super Bowl.
That was a heart breaking loss for the Browns, it was so hard to kick a field goal in the frigid condition, Cockroft had missed an earlier field goal and extra point

Chargers did make the conf. championship next season in 2007 but they lost again to the Patriots 21-12. They have not made it past the divisional round since then.

The fact that packers earlier in the game dropped a catch, and it was called a catch. Then reviewed it and it clearly hit the ground before even touching the player, yet refs still called it a catch, which led to a packers field goal. Only for them to call Dez actual catch not a catch lol
Really enjoyed this list. Learned a lot too and I feel like I generally know about all the great playoff matchups too. I'm not saying I agree with all the rankings which are subjective but this was thorough.

The 2019 ravens getting blown out at home was the second most heartbreaking moment ever for me as a fan. It was the single greatest football team I have ever watched. They dominated almost all the winning teams in the league and won 13 straight. Dominated both sides. They got arrogant and didn’t take the titans seriously. That team would’ve dominated the superbowl
The most insane part is that the same thing happened to the Ravens in 2006 as well. That team was on another long winning streak with a defense with 6 future Hall of Famers on it that rivaled their 2000 defense for crying out loud. Not to mention the best offense they ever had in the Billick Era. Just like the Titans, Baltimore didn't take the Colts' defense seriously which gave up the most rushing yards in league history during the regular season. Just like Earl Thomas, Corey Ivy ran his mouth and got run over by Dominic Rhodes. Those were two of the greatest teams I've ever watched, and the same thing happened in nearly identical circumstances.
I gotta say, as a long time Chiefs fan it's really interesting to watch this (and the wildcard round video) in March of 2023, after KC just won their 2nd super bowl in 4 years. Prior to 2018, the NFL playoffs were a recurring disaster for KC, from several divisional round losses when KC was the AFC #1 seed, to wildcard losses that had bizarre, "curse"-like qualities to them. It helps keep in perspective how truly special these past few years have been for KC, because it hasn't always been so. So many people feel certain that KC is the next great dynasty and that Chiefs fans will stay drunk on success for several more years, but even though all the pieces appear to be in place and on paper that looks true, there have been plenty of dynasties stopped short for various reasons. Whether our Mahomes-led Chiefs go on to become the first franchise to win 10 or more super bowls, or they win one or two more, or Chiefs fans 15 years from now tell their kids about the 5-year glorious stretch at the beginning of Mahomes' career that resulted in 2 lombardi trophies...nobody really knows...but what I do know is that having your heart ripped out repeatedly before reaching success makes the latter so much sweeter.
Yep before Mahomes got their it was ugly, 2013 huge collapse at Indy, 2015 terrible clock management at pats, 2016 lose to a Steelers team that didn’t score a TD, 2017 blown lead at home vs Marcus Mariota.

Kind of surprised that Jets-Patriots 2010 wasn't mentioned here. New England was 14-2 that season, Brady would go on to win the first ever unanimous MVP, and they had blasted the Jets 45-3 on National TV just a few weeks prior. This game also marked the 3rd straight season that New England failed to win a playoff game while Brady was rostered, the longest such stretch of the Brady-Belichick era, and they wouldn't win another Super Bowl for 3 more seasons after that.

Yes was very shocked that game wasn't on the list. That definitely did end that era for the Rams. And I think at the time, it was only like the 2nd or 3rd ever playoff game that went to double overtime!

Too much recency bias. Devastating to me means more than just the loss, but what it symbolized. One of the forgotten games of all time should be on this list...49ers/Cowboys from 1972. Most remembered by folks old enough as "The other playoff game after The Immaculate Reception". Dallas coming back from 28-13 down...Roger Staubach's first signature Captain Comeback moment...and that loss, with San Francisco trying to enact payback after two NFC title game losses the previous years, sent the 49ers in to a tailspin the rest of the decade. Took a couple of guys named Walsh and Montana to get them out. I'd also have Houston/Denver from 1991 AND Houston/KC in 1993 as one combined spot. Warren Moon's Oilers were such underachievers and for all the talk about the blown lead against Buffalo in the 1992 wild card, losing a 15 point halftime lead in Denver and blowing a completely winnable game against Marty Schottenheimer of all people after winning 11 straight games never gets mentioned enough. Those two games summed up who they were perfectly.

Agreed. That weekend featured the Top 2 seeds in the AFC suffering devastating losses at home after dominating all season. Some say the NFL was conspiring against the Ravens and Chargers in order to have a Brady-Manning AFC Championship Game.

The Colts loss to the Steelers WAS devastating for a year but they came back and finally won the Super Bowl the following year in dramatic fashion. The Jets losing to the Steelers in 2004, now THAT was a devastating loss. Packers losing to the Niners last season as well
I think the Pats-Jets game from 2010 should be at least an honorable mention. With the exception of 07, that was the best chance to win a ring in that 10 year period where it never happened.

I know you can't have every one mentioned (and nobody seems to remember how brutal the Giants '89 divisional OT loss to the Rams was) but two missing games really need to be on that list. One is the 1980 AFC Divisional playoff between the Browns and Raiders, as it was a brutally cold winter game with a devastating finish, and also happened on the same day as the 1980 Falcons vs. Cowboys game that's on this video, so the two would go hand in hand. The other that needs to be on this list is the 1987 Divisional Playoff where the best team in the league, the 13-2 San Francisco 49ers somehow lost to the 8-7 Vikings, when Anthony Carter caught 10 passes for over 200 yards, and Joe Montana, with Rice, Taylor, Clark, Jones, Craig, and Rathman, along with his Hall Of Fame O-Line , had the rare terrible game and got beaten soundly at home. Essentially, the same 49ers team would win the next two Super Bowls (getting revenge against the Vikes along the way) and barely came up short in the NFC title game the year after that. When you look back on it, the four 49ers seasons between 1987-1990 saw them go 51-12, and they might have won 4 Super Bowls in a row those years other than the great upset the Vikes performed in '87, and the Lawrence Taylor caused 4rth quarter fumble by Craig in the heartbreaking 15-13 loss to the Giants in '90. Yeah, I'm aware they still would have had to win some more games in '87 and '90, and Buffalo and Washington weren't slouches, but the 49ers would have been the best team in every game they played. The 2000 Titans and the 2007 Cowboys also had some pretty devastating defeats in this category, among a few others that also didn't get mentioned. Heck, the 1979 defeat of the Cowboys by the Rams in Dallas in Staubach's final game when Billy Waddy scored that late 50 yard TD was pretty devastating too, although not for those of us who hated the Cowboys.

I remember watching the Bills Chiefs game, I was so tired after work and I kept falling asleep, I remember seeing us score the 13 sec left touchdown and the ESPN app saying the game was over and we won. I was so happy, I passed out with the game still playing and I started having one of those “half asleep, half awake” dreams where you wake up feeling like you were living a nightmare or weird, bad dream. I kept having some kind of nightmare we got blown out and lost the game. So I woke myself up to prove myself that it was just a dream that we lost so I could stay asleep.
It wasn’t a dream. We were in OT and I remember waking up and refreshing the app over and over to see if it was an error. I went back to watch the game and I literally still cannot process the emotion I had to them winning. I to this day cannot enjoy that legendary game because of the denial I had because the ESPN app decided to call the game before it was over.
I love how the raiders beat the patriots with a controversial call and the patriots did the same thing to them 25 years later.
The Pats got screwed far worse in that game than the Raiders did in the tuck rule game. The refs made so many bad calls almost all in Oaklands favor.

This is not a good list. You had a Cowboys/Falcons game at #3 that has absolutely no historical significance, and is a game most football fans have never heard of. You also somehow left off 4th & 26, literally one of the most painful defeats I've ever seen.

The problem with your statement is that it wasn't even technically correct. There are a few photos that show Brady with both hands on the ball while Woodson's arm is still coming down. Brady was finished tucking the ball, and therefore, even by the rules of the time (which everyone agrees sucked), it was still a fumble.

Dez most certainly caught it. Back then you had to “perform a football move” after the catch to be considered a completion. Dez was reaching out to the goal line (football move) trying to score the TD.

Yes, the ball shifted, but he held it against his helmet, then let it go and sort of "re-caught" it after. Dez took 3 steps with control and had had hip, knee and forearm down before the ball popped up. So according to 2014 it was 100% a catch in more ways than 1.
