Hello Sir, excellent video! I saw this through Linked In and just came by to see what all you had to say about being a BMET. I’m literally graduating from the BMET curriculum at FT.Sam Houston on Wednesday after going through a reclass for my Military Occupational Specialty, and am trying to pursue either an externship through the Army Reserves with GE and/or a job at my local hospital! I must say that the training I’ve received has made me so excited to get started in this field and help impact lives! I’ll certainly be taking a look at your other videos! Thanks again for the additional information and please, have yourself a fantastic day Sir!

I know this is a YEAR later 😂 but, I do want to say thank you for putting up this video....I have contemplated shifting my medical career as a Surgical Technician to Biomedical Technician as I have seen the techs roll into the surgery center I work at and I'm so intrigued to learn how to troubleshoot and fix the machines we use in surgery that I chat their ears off!! Hahaha! I have actually had lots of support and compliments from the existing BMET technicians who have shown me how to fix theachines that they insist I get myself enrolled into the local CC program here in Michigan...So, I'm chatting with admissions and watching BMET videos on YT!! OH BOY!! At my midlife age of 45!😳 I should mention that my previous vocation before becoming a CST was Certified (graduated MMI in Phoenix or 2003) Harley-Davidon Technician. I'm wondering if there is pressure on employees to advance or become trained in other areas in the hospital setting, or are you are much more free to specialize and stay in whichever area you want, even if it is for example the most simple area you've described (fixing hospital beds/similar simple equipment)?

Do you have a technical background? Do you know the biomed staff at the local hospital? There are also bmet jobs with manufacturers where they train you on a variety of equipment. Many options available. You can volunteer at a local hospital to get a leg up on job competition or you can casually write local medical equipment suppliers etc and express your interests in medical technology jobs. Don't give up after a few rejections. I've been denied for 20-30 (or so) jobs that I've applied for. Apply for every position that becomes available. -every one. (Bmet1 through bmet3).
Market yourself as if you were the product for sale. (Because you are)

This is a complex answer which I'd do better to make a full video to give a complete answer. In short: get your journeyman license and then explore biomed. We start at around $40k for bmet1 and you can make over $70k easily in 10 years if you are a trainable, motivated technician. There are plenty of areas where hvac would greatly benefit a bmet. I dealt with a -80deg freezer today that caught fire.

@@BetterBiomedChannel Apologies if this double-posted, it seems that my response no longer exists.
Hello again, and thank you for your response.
My plan is to transition into the medical industry to use my skills as a technician (although I have never been a technician). The motive is crude, but simple: learning something new, and money. If I can continuously gain certifications, I will learn more, make more money, and fundamentally maintain higher levels of care. I imagine I'll have a paycut that'll last at least 3-4 years, but to have functional and applicable skills that are outside of Excel are worth it.
From what I have said , is this the kind of character or motivation to have? Am I more greedy than my intentions?
If it is not, how would you recommend I proceed? In this video you mentioned multiple types of technicians, and preferably I want to be able to do each kind of work. Is that goal realistic?
My current plan, as I understand it, is as such:
      1) Find any mech. eng. job in the medical field that will have me at least close to the machinery.
      2) Study and achieve the BMET certification. (I'm still unsure how much my degree will allow for me to fast forward this process.)
      3) Find a new job that allows me the position of Biomed I, proceed with the experience requirements and additional certifications. I will repeat this process until I eventually become Biomed III/IV.
What do you think? Does this look realistic?

I want to be a certified BMET. I have a technical background. I want to be independent, mobile, and in demand. What specialty/sector should I aim for? Where should I start (online, community college, etc)?

If you have a technical background, you might already qualify for a position. You'll have to start as a biomed 1 or a tech 1 for a manufacturer
