I don’t find it disturbing at all..! He is simply answering the questions he’s been asked in a considered & honest way. Very lucid & coherent - doesn’t seem high at all. He’s so dreamy ❤
He’s naturally a very shy guy, although his speaking voice has considerably deepened since this interview. I think he looks younger than 30 here a bit, at times he looks 16 or 17 here.
it’s not his song (i think it’s the best off the album, though), but you’re totally right. he has a very mid-range speaking voice, and a great vocal range in his singing.
However, he has gotten better over these past few years. Whenever he’s with someone he knows well, he’s much more relaxed. And to be fair, this was only a few years into his bad seed days.
it's painful to see him in such condition. this whole interview gives a feeling of total emotional emptiness. the spark in his eyes is lost and he's left with a blank look, which is so uncommon for him. i don't know if drugs have something to do with it, but it amazes me how a person in such state of mind can still put so much meaning in his words.
Phoenix Zappa ..guffaw.. I second and concur. the >profundity< exhausts me. 'cliche' on you, 'cliche' on us all. And you should really cover your mouth when you cliche, you're spreading germs..
This is hard to watch, you can see his dependence seeping through. Maybe it's true that drugs are really good for creativity since they recorded some of the best Bad Seeds albuns in that time, but this is still disturbing to watch.
What happened to Caveys voice between '88 and '93? Seems like his voice was lowered by an octave... Maybe this is earlier than '88? Also, he seems way more innocent here in the way he deals with interviews. Without a mask, so to speak
Sounds a bit like him at times too, minus the accent. The difference is is that Earl is far more outgoing and willing to be interviewed than his old man is.
Cave poo-poos Bukowski, but it’s funny how much they have in common. When I listen to Cave interviews I often hear things that remind me of Bukowski. Like his points about filmmaking, reminds me of Bukowski’s novel Hollywood, comments Buk made about his experience with the movie Barfly. Also reminds me of David Lynch’s experience.
Christ! You can hear the heroin in his voice and manner. The collapsed, lazy larynx. Too relaxed. But a brilliant mind nonetheless. I feel bad for saying this. Hey ho.
What??? You are a Smack expert I take it. Wow...how does a person post something about someone on that level... not knowing or having a clue who this man is??
Still Mick G. you fucking BOZO...It doesn't change the Fact that you do (not) know or have a clue who this man was or is....CLOWN. Would your statement stand up in Court?? No it would (not) Mick G. Stop playing God and work your 2nd step of the 12 steps.Wishing you all the best in the New Year.
Me....Having said all that....you could be right Mick G. But still my question is...why feel the need to post something that comes off like making a judgement on ones character. How would you want to be treated? Even you yourself said..."I feel bad for saying this." But yet the need to go on with it?? Dude, never mind. I will probably never get you. I'm ok with that. Sorry for the Bozo and Clown remarks. I'm coming off as no better than. I'm being a BOZO! Ha!Ha! Ha! Cheers!!
Ron Twyman I've been listening to Cave since 83, I've followed him on tour four times, his albums have essentially been the soundtrack to my life. Even though I have never met him, I do understand some of the lyrics in a way others can't for obvious reasons. There are references which non addicts simply will not get. Much in the same way that a bereaved parent might get the Skeleton Tree lyrics in a way I can't, again.... For obvious reasons. Heroin relaxes the larynx unnaturally. Which is why addicts have that 'droney, lazy' way of speaking. Listen to him today and it's different. Why has this got to you SO much...?
nick is so junked out here, very glad he made it out alive and healthy, he cant go more than five seconds without scratching at his face, I've been there! no good

he gave me the best cuddle back in 1996...my knees buckled
jealous
Really?
He does look like he gives nice hugs ngl
Awww baby Cave
He looks way younger than the 31 he would've been in 1988..
Sami Hayes hahahah baby Nick Cave. Btw he looks exactly like his son Earl does now.
I know, right? Sweet, sweet, Nick...
@@PunchiesManifesto Rock'n'roll makes you stay young for long. (If you survive of course).

"Did he actually ask that stupid question ?"
So true. He is looking at the camera seemingly saying "Here we go..."
Just the most incredible person I have ever seen.
Honest and amazing with words
That is an artist who deeply believes in his own illusion ,he feels it so true he xan be confidently obtuse about it...exactly what you would want!!!
I look at him, this young 31 age man, and I'm thinking about all the things he will achieve, create, lose, ... . Pretty amazing...
Its always nice to hear someone smart among the ocean of plunder
Nice turn of phrase

When i think of all these years from The Birthday Party til now... It's been a fantastic journey with this artist! Makes me happy to be here.
He’s a pretty shy guy as you can tell here.
But to watch this at the height of his drug use… thank god he’s cleaned up.

His heroin addiction was really bad at this time.

is the film hes speaking of "Ghosts... of the Civil Dead"???
Bill Lawlor yes
I first met Nick Cave in 1979.80 when I was a student. He played in a pub off Victoria Street Fitzroy. He gave Kyle Minogue Street cred.
