What to Expect: The 2 Types of Federal Criminal Investigator Academies

- This video provides an overview of federal training academies for Special Agents. Most agencies send their new hires for a general criminal investigator training with follow on by their parent agencies. The DEA and FBI, by contrast, have their own academies. Which system is better?
CITP is pretty much where everyone goes in order to get an 1811 designation in the federal system. It is a course led by homeland security. And then every agency has their own add on course to have a specific departmental instruction. But you only have to go to CITP once so if you go from secret service to US Marshals you would only have to go to the add on course.
So CITP has no shelf life or expiration date?
I did CITP way back in spring 02 (GS 1811). We went 6 days a week for 9 weeks. Probably 4k people at FLETC when I went through (2002).
CITP will be my 3rd academy. Started in Corrections, then Hospital PD. 👮♂️
Only thing I’m not looking forward to is getting exposed to OC, again 😅
Great breakdown and specific explanations, thank you.
Thank you for your videos.
OCS for the USMC does have drill built into the curriculum, they even have a drill competition for each Company on deck with a trophy for bragging rights for the drill sergeants. Semper Fi
Deputies are given 1811 at a GS11
I believe Postal Inspectors have their own academy as well.
Prior USAF Security Forces here, I’m looking into the IRS CI positions - do I have to go through FLETC still? I was told I have held a FLETA certificated career field for 10 years. Also, does less than lethal training happen at FLETA? OC/Taser?
I am a GS8 did officer to I have to attend CITP to gain a position if I have already completed the UPTP course or will I have to do training again?
Waiting for my CITP FLETC date for BEP. I was told it's participation only for PT. I'm a bit worried as I have a few pre-existing injuries from 10 years in the BOP. Do they offer modified PT? Low back and shoulder injury.
When you say participation only. Do you mean that its not timed for pass or fail? You just have to do it?
I'm a GS-0083, hired as a Dept of Navy Detective who investigates misdemeanor level and less crimes on a Navy installation. I've been to FLETC UPTP and I'm awaiting my required Investigator course which was supposed to be through the US Army Military Police Investigations school at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. My less than informed Dept Director insists I have to attend CITP at FLETC, which is 1811 specific from what I understand. Can you offer any clarification? Thanks for any input you can provide.
It’s DOD not DON, 0083s from the Navy refuse that DON title.
I have a question what is the acceptance rate for the us marshals and have you worked with them in your time in the dea
I dont know what their acceptance rate is but they seem to have very few vacancies. I did work with them in a limited way. We would delegate our arrest warrants to them and they would take our seized monies and vehicles, etc. In court, whenever the defendant was out on bond, and the jury likely to return a guilty verdict, they would hover over the defendant like buzzards circling for a kill. I like the agency and would have taken it if it was open. Back in the day there was a civil service test for the DUSM, but now they use resumes and software.
About CBP academy personnel wearing campaign hats like drill instructors. That's just the standard uniform headgear for CBP and Border Patrol officers, not an attempt to appear military.
Fully agreed on the CBP training. 15 minutes for a 1.5-mile run is a joke to begin with.
Is not longer timed anymore. Now you just need to be able to finish the 1.5 however you can.
@@JM-dk4ec damn, the standard keeps on going down lower and lower.
@@omaazu.s.a6151 yeah and not surprising either they hemorrhaging employees and scrambling to hire enough people to keep up with it.
@@JM-dk4ec guess i applied at the right time
@@Jerryleedlelee honestly you shouldn’t be proud of not being able to run a 1.5 mile…
Does anyone know if secret service agents (not uniformed) get tased ? Only asking because last time I had a bad reaction and my shoulder dislocated.
Im currently on the CL pay scale. How do the promotions with GS work? There is currently a position as a criminal investigator with the Veteran Affairs starting at GS 9. Can you provide any information on this position and how long til takes to go promote from GS9? Thank You
Step 25 for each Classification Level in this table is linked to the General Schedule as follows:
CL-21, step 25 = GS-3, step 1 CL-25, step 25 = GS-9, step 1 CL-29, step 25 = GS-13, step 1
CL-22, step 25 = GS-5, step 1 CL-26, step 25 = GS-10, step 1 CL-30, step 25 = GS-14, step 1
CL-23, step 25 = GS-7, step 1 CL-27, step 25 = GS-11, step 1 CL-31, step 25 = GS-15, step 1
CL-24, step 25 = GS-8, step 1 CL-28, step 25 = GS-12, step 1

BP academy was nothing in comparison to Marine boot camp. Marine Corps boot camp was the real deal from PT to mental games.
I agree. I will always remember the night I arrived at MCRD to the day I die. I still recall the names of my drill instructors and would like to visit MCRD is SD before I die. That is where I was born into a new life that went ways I never thought it would.
