As I know that you are a handyman, I want to share with you my experiences that are valid for any bike. All electric bikes with a rear motor work poorly. Always check that the front and rear wheels roll smoothly and that the bearing lasts a long time. If you see that it stops after two turns, you have to remove the wheel and loosen the axle as long as there is no play and also check that the pads do not rub when empty and without tightening the lever. If they rub, it is because the hydraulic brake is not properly set and you have to loosen the two screws that it has on the upper part to brake hard and then tighten them without releasing the lever so we can make sure that they are perfectly coupled. I also know the trick of making it legal and that it does not have a physical accelerator in the fist so that they do not report us. The trick is to remove it from the handlebar and put another one (the smallest one that exists) inside the controller or outside but in a hole (which there is) and fill it with hot silicone so that it doesn't move or get water. The trick is that you have an accelerator and the circuit sends a signal to the controller but in the zero position without activating it. So we no longer have a physical accelerator and you cannot practically accelerate by not carrying it. Your bike is 100 percent legal. Well, the SUPER ENGINEERS of Fiido or any other brand don't know how to override it and remove it from the handlebars, they say that if you unplug it by mistake and the bike doesn't start. Well, on Aliexpress there are miniature accelerators that are very small and are valid for my "invention" and fit in any hole. With how easy it would have been to program the controller so that the accelerator function is canceled. Notice that the fines are enormous and you are taking action against Road Safety in Spain if they catch you and see that you have an accelerator. There are already many electric bikes that are sold in Spain that do not carry it when they realize the failure. But with our magnificent Fiido, we risk the heavy penalty of two or three times the value of the bike. I see the delimiting of the bike as silly since you can give yourself a fatal blow or run over someone and you are looking for ruin. At 25 km/h also but less. In addition, with my invention it cannot be delimited.
Haha yes hopefully it still looks good haha Some people also invest in fancy colors but I tried to kind of fly under the radar with my bike so it is not so obvious that it is worth much more now ;-)

@@sparton4747 that is a good question, unfortunately I don't have the stock mudguards. My mudguards use different mounting points i.e. not where the axis is so you will have to check, with some tweaking it should work. Let me know if you try it!

Your chain never falls off your chainring? I just bought a chain guide for my rental ebike to fix that problem. And for your low rider bags, if you're worried about them coming lose, then how about lock-washers and or blue Loctite threadlocker?
hey mate my chain does not come off. The chainring has some kind of ring outside that prevents that. there is another version that is open but I would need special chain so it would not fall off. Rider Bags thanks for the idea with lock washers and loctite... I am not really afraid that it comes loose it is just little bit unstable solutions without a bridge... I would not want to load it to the limit... thanks again for the ideas, I appreciate it.

thanks you need different controller for my display (kt controller has some display optiond). you could ask fiido support about changing display, they are usually very supportive. You can also consider changing the controller of course, but it is a lot of work but worth it
I dont know about the original mudguards, esp. in the front I would think that it will be difficult. But you could use the mudguards I use, in the front it will be necessary to cut them most likely. Upgrading the tires is a must IMHO

hello mate, yes it has many advantages. Disadvantage maybe is that it is a tight fit and that the motor does not run as smoothly. But no real problem so far, highly recommended if you have the skills to change it.
How did you get on with cutting back the front mudguard? Or did you go a different route in the end? Asking as I got some larger balloon tyres and are looking for for some mudguards.
Hello Morgan I just don't use the front mudguard right now. I think it is not so important, rear one is really important. Also it hurts my soul to cut it but I think it should be easy :-) But I don't drive in really bad weather conditions anyways so no problem until now.
Great video! I’m 200cm tall would I be too tall for it? I’m only looking to travel approximately 25 minutes each way, 15min to the station and then 10 min to work, not hilly at all.
Puh that is a tough question. Maybe you should try a bike with a similar size for example at Decathlon and then you can decide. I think the (literally) biggest problem could be that you touch the handlebar with your knees...
Soon there'll be no original Fiido parts on it at all 😂. Just joking - really good video. The squeaky brakes on mine is very irritating too. You briefly showed a suspension fork in the video. Two questions; do you know if it's a good fit for the disc brake position? Also, do you intend on fitting a front shock to yours? I'd love to see that.
haha thanks it is true my bike is actually some kind of concept bike now, but it is actually working ;-) Suspension fork I don't know because my priority is a more lightweight bike for travelling. no, you don't need to change the controller at all... you can feed any 36V battery into the controller it will not know the difference (just put enough ah but with 20 ah you will not have any problems). if you think of going 48v some day you might need to change the controller.

hey mate, merry Christmas to you as well! Wider tires makes for a more comfy and stable riding. I remember when I was in Hamburg as a student I had a mountain bike for the city. It was like riding a tank... I think changing to Schwalbe tires on a small bike is similar... maybe it takes away 1-2 km/h from the top speed but the bike is less wiggly and it is a much more pleasant experience. It is not a replacement for a suspension for example I would still avoid large potholes but for smaller bumps you will feel them less. I think it is one of the best upgrades!

How is it like pedalling this bike without using any electrical power? Is it possible to ride comfortably at all, or are the pedals mostly there to assist riding uphill or when low on battery? I had a fiido d1 which I loved, but pedalling was hard as hell (it was single speed). Thanks
hello actually just today I forgot to charge and battery died suddenly, but it was comfortable to paddle. I just have changed the chainring so going uphill might be a little bit harder but I think it is possible and if you want a workout just turn off the engine 👌
I have a way to override the accelerator and physically remove it from the handlebars and thus make the bike legal in Spain and in the US. having no physical accelerator. The solution of unplugging it from the controller gives an error and does not start the bike. Instead with my solution it works perfectly.
be careful, not all 58t chainring will work I will update link soon, this ring is available on Ali lots of options, on Amazon it is difficult to find (lot of "wrong" models)

I add 36V so same speed. You could add 48V then speed will increase, but you need change controller. I changed controller with more Amps so I have more torque, this was my priority. Want to be legal speedwise
thanks! usually the light and horn not working is because a contact got loose... they are secured with hot glue but it can still happen. you could open the controller department and check the connection for the light and horn. you can see the cable here: www.bernhardherzog.com/en/ebike-scooter-controller-upgrade/#4_Lamp_and_Speaker But if you have the bike just 1 month you can also contact Fiido. They should tell you what to do or walk you through the process of finding the problem or send you some replacement parts...

@@barkkasbar5539 spokes broken usually because it was not prepared (tightened) well from factory... the problem is that design with hub motor (compared to middle motor), need to be more careful with potholes etc. you can get free replacement spokes from Fiido if you write them...
hey bro, check out the links in the video description. I have tutorials for everything. Best Controller is KT contorller. Battery it really depends on your use case. If you want to make bike tours or trips it is better a bigger battery, to commute to work and when you have to carry the bike it is better a smaller battery and then it is also possible to replace the battery inside the bike.... if you tell me more details I can give you advice :-)
@@ebikeworkshop l wish could go at least 60 km -70 km a day and that my bike is faster between 36- 40 km .. so the top speed is between 36km -40 km and endurance is at least 60 km. I want the new controller and battery to be same size as the old one so l can fit into the frame of the bike. My weight is 86 kg.

it has torque sensor simulation. I.e. if you pedal faster it will go faster. This means I dont need throttle so much anymore. With original controller I needed throttle a lot because support kicked in late and also too much

Please be advised that the Fiido D4S does not conform to EU and Spanish Pedelec law. Why?Bikes like this and others that have twist accelerator that may maintain speed without pedal assist are classified as mopeds-moto, which require driving licence and insurance. Police are fining heavily users of non compliant Pedelec ebikes.
Hello my friend, I know what you mean and it is true but you are generalizing. In my country (Austria) twist accelerator is legal. Also I upgraded to KT controller and I can set the twist accelerator to max. 6 km/h which is legal in Germany. Also I can completely turn it off in controller. KT controller has a very good pedal assist, I rarely use twist accelerator, only sometimes. With stock controller pedal assist is not so good, but Fiido builds new bikes now that have a torque sensor. From which country are you and why you are posting? Maybe I can help you? Also I have many tutorials about controller and battery, if you have a question don't hesitate!
Thank you. Indeed the laws can vary slightly from EU country to country. I will upgrade controller as you have done and give it a try. Very helpful. The issue is that controller supplied by Fido for known DS2, DS3. and DS4 are not pedelec compliant. Here in Spain a pedelec bike requires a certificate of pedelec conformity with Spanish ministry of transport. Without which one can be fined even though the controller change may offer pedelec pedal assistance functionality. Additionally if your new controller still offers option for acceleration up to 25kph without pedal assistance it is still illegal in Spain and probably in other EU countries. Bottom line is that the EU law and politicians decided that if non assisted acceleration twist and go throttle exists up to 25kph it is a moped. Very clear. Here the Spanish police made it black and white. With a fine!! Thank you for your reply. I will also verify your controller upgrade with Spanish police.Much appreciated.
@@DarkAngel-yu1ye yess, you also need a new display. Torque sensor is supported with some special open source software (and display) but I think it is complicated, you need to google. Ja doplnil tachometer z káblom lebo originálny sa po 10min vtipné a zmaže aktuálne km a tiež preto že bola nesprávne zadaná veľkosť obvodu kolesá ukáže viacej km ako je skutočnosť aj preto že Kim prišiel nato ako sa dostat do nastavení musel len skúšať podržal M a na zapnutie dlhšie ako3 sekundy a potom už zisťoval čo znamená P1 36v a 48v batéria volty P2 obvod kolesá P3 tam sa dá zadať do 39 .vimenil 6pastorok 14z 27z za 7pastorok 14z 34z vimenil radiacu páčku 7polohovu v predu 52z hrebenak vimenil za 3hrebenak 50z 39z 30z doplnil presmikovac a 3polohovu páčku.doplnil svetlo z Lidl z senzorom na dene svietenie ma senzor svetla pouličného a slnka automatickú zmenu osvetlenia a potom 70lux 30lux 15lux pevné stupne nastavenia nabíja sa c konektorom z usb
How is it like pedalling this bike without using any electrical power? Is it possible to ride comfortably at all, or are the pedals mostly there to assist riding uphill or when low on battery? I had a fiido d1 which I loved, but pedalling was hard as hell (it was single speed).

hello actually just today I forgot to charge and battery died suddenly, but it was comfortable to paddle. I just have changed the chainring so going uphill might be a little bit harder but I think it is possible and if you want a workout just turn off the engine 👌

I have a way to override the accelerator and physically remove it from the handlebars and thus make the bike legal in Spain and in the US. having no physical accelerator. The solution of unplugging it from the controller gives an error and does not start the bike. Instead with my solution it works perfectly.

be careful, not all 58t chainring will work I will update link soon, this ring is available on Ali lots of options, on Amazon it is difficult to find (lot of "wrong" models)

When u added a battery did the speed improve?
I add 36V so same speed. You could add 48V then speed will increase, but you need change controller. I changed controller with more Amps so I have more torque, this was my priority. Want to be legal speedwise

thanks! usually the light and horn not working is because a contact got loose... they are secured with hot glue but it can still happen. you could open the controller department and check the connection for the light and horn. you can see the cable here: www.bernhardherzog.com/en/ebike-scooter-controller-upgrade/#4_Lamp_and_Speaker
But if you have the bike just 1 month you can also contact Fiido. They should tell you what to do or walk you through the process of finding the problem or send you some replacement parts...

@@barkkasbar5539 spokes broken usually because it was not prepared (tightened) well from factory... the problem is that design with hub motor (compared to middle motor), need to be more careful with potholes etc. you can get free replacement spokes from Fiido if you write them...

hey bro, check out the links in the video description. I have tutorials for everything. Best Controller is KT contorller. Battery it really depends on your use case. If you want to make bike tours or trips it is better a bigger battery, to commute to work and when you have to carry the bike it is better a smaller battery and then it is also possible to replace the battery inside the bike.... if you tell me more details I can give you advice :-)
@@ebikeworkshop l wish could go at least 60 km -70 km a day and that my bike is faster between 36- 40 km .. so the top speed is between 36km -40 km and endurance is at least 60 km. I want the new controller and battery to be same size as the old one so l can fit into the frame of the bike. My weight is 86 kg.

hey thanks... this bike is honestly the best quality one from all Fiido bikes because it is a relatively simple bike. But you are right, some bikes that are shipped are faulty and I was lucky, but they are shipping a lot...

What do you mean by better pedal assist on the kt control
it has torque sensor simulation. I.e. if you pedal faster it will go faster. This means I dont need throttle so much anymore. With original controller I needed throttle a lot because support kicked in late and also too much

Please be advised that the Fiido D4S does not conform to EU and Spanish Pedelec law.
Why?Bikes like this and others that have twist accelerator that may maintain speed without pedal assist are classified as mopeds-moto, which require driving licence and insurance. Police are fining heavily users of non compliant Pedelec ebikes.
Hello my friend, I know what you mean and it is true but you are generalizing. In my country (Austria) twist accelerator is legal. Also I upgraded to KT controller and I can set the twist accelerator to max. 6 km/h which is legal in Germany. Also I can completely turn it off in controller. KT controller has a very good pedal assist, I rarely use twist accelerator, only sometimes. With stock controller pedal assist is not so good, but Fiido builds new bikes now that have a torque sensor. From which country are you and why you are posting? Maybe I can help you? Also I have many tutorials about controller and battery, if you have a question don't hesitate!
Thank you. Indeed the laws can vary slightly from EU country to country. I will upgrade controller as you have done and give it a try. Very helpful. The issue is that controller supplied by Fido for known DS2, DS3. and DS4 are not pedelec compliant.
Here in Spain a pedelec bike requires a certificate of pedelec conformity with Spanish ministry of transport. Without which one can be fined even though the controller change may offer pedelec pedal assistance functionality. Additionally if your new controller still offers option for acceleration up to 25kph without pedal assistance it is still illegal in Spain and probably in other EU countries. Bottom line is that the EU law and politicians decided that if non assisted acceleration twist and go throttle exists up to 25kph it is a moped.

@@DarkAngel-yu1ye yess, you also need a new display. Torque sensor is supported with some special open source software (and display) but I think it is complicated, you need to google.
