    A little of our story:
Carissa, Iwan & Frankie decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month they were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call their new home. We picked up Albi the cat along the way. Subscribe to follow our journey as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

I like that you leave periods of silence in your film. I like that you write the descriptions on the screen. You have lovely views and I enjoy them more with the music and no talking. Your films are a good balance between talking and silence. Thank you.

Made me laugh about Frankie burying the socks. Our spaniel collected socks, bras and pants from the airer. He buried them down the back of the sofa! He doesn't do it so much now he's older but if we lose anything we know where to look! Thankyou for another lovely video!

You should water in the evening so the plants can make better use of the water In the morning the heat comes and the earth dries faster. I was a farmer in alentejo the hotter part of Portugal and had to water at night.

Thanks for showing the garlic braiding, twice even, when my garlic is ready I'm going to do that!! And yours looks perfect hanging on the cabinet you built. The perfect little country kitchen.

Carissa , Iwan the chicken plunge pool to revive works I had a brown leghorn rooster knock his water over in wagga australia and he overheated it was 40 at least and he came good over a week we don’t worry how cold as the idea is bring their core down quickly as long as they are dryish before bed , it must be horrendous for you both not used to heat on such a scale we have a thing here which is like a tea towel folded diagonally and wet ,placed in freezer til frozen and wrapped around the neck and tied , the problem , your off grid , other way smash the ice up like frappe and roll into tea towel , we have vests that have ice packs in the lining now for tradies etc most building sites start at 7 am start and finish at 12 noon the roofers wear shorts & boots only on tin roofs or tile …. Blistering . In the end I moved to Tasmania it had 6 days last summer over 30 degrees it has 2 feet of rain a year and tree ferns 2 men high and I can say I don’t miss 90 days of 40 to 43 degrees heat and cooking in kitchens @ 50 degrees hope you keep cool on your lovely land 👍❤️❤️❤️🙏

Lovely, all of it. The latin names of the furbies slay 😄😎. Your reworked chair is cool and well ventilated, you're so resourceful. Frankie must have a (american) football or a motorcycle helmet her bike rides, sausage dog-sized, of course. So cute how she wanted to play with the piglets. Your kitchen is verrry pretty & practical. Your green things, chickens, and pets are looking great. Keep taking it easy and adjusting & readjusting to the heat 😉. 💗

Those clouds at 22:00 could have been desert sands blown from the Sahara. There were reports of several of these sand clouds reaching Portugal this year. In fact, almost every year it happens perhaps once or twice. I think this year it already happened at least twice.

Ways to keep cool in a hot summer :1. Tie a cold cloth around your neck-use either cold water or ice. 2.
Make sure you keep electrolytes up by drinking water with honey, lemon slice or juice and a bit of salt. Also to make the fan even colder put a bowl of ice water close by and it will blow cold air on you!

Everything is looking amazing! The veggies plants all look great, that bougainvillea is gonna add some gorgeous colour to wherever you put it. Caught a glimpse of some interesting books on your bookshelf too hehe 👀
Maybe this an unfounded concern but are you sure you want to plant grapes (i.e. edibles) where you found an old fridge? I think fridges, especially old ones, could have some nasty stuff in them, I would just be worried about whether it could have contaminated the soil. I dunno, but just thought it was worth mentioning in case it was something you hadn't thought about.

i used the seeds from the scapes once in a ferment and it was fabulously delicious (i think it was sort of a sauerruben (turnips)). they are a pain to peel! maybe you can leave the skins and it would likely be fine... however, if you want to skin them before using them, it is easiest to soak them in some water for a bit until the skins soften and they are easier to remove.

That plant you couldn’t quite pronounce with the fuchsia pink flowers is bougainvillea - pronounced Bogan-villy-a - it is in Aussie anyway mate 😆👍🏽 be careful where you plant it, it grows like wildfire and has big nasty thorns, it commonly will cover a whole building or grow up a tree killing the tree, it would be a good shade covering for the chook-house as long you keep it pruned every 6 months - a year, your little home on the land looks cool, it can only get better from here right 😉🇦🇺

Kudos to you. After verdant Wales I could not bear the heat. I live in Comunidad Valenciana and we're insulating the roof and roof terraces against this appalling hellish heat. The most brutal heat is around 5pm to 7pm, sun from the west.
If you can plant a staggered row of drought-resistant trees on the western edge of your property you will be thankful for it.
Paulownia is a fast grower and it is drought-resistant and has massive lilac flowers. But plant them in a zigzag 5 metres apart. They are a commercial hardwood tree here in Spain (for pellet stoves) but in GB are considered an ornamental tree. They can grow five metres in a year, and have very deep roots for looking for moisture and to anchor them.
Don't let the heat get you down. Autumn is around the corner.

Question. If you are having many super hot day in a row, do you think watering the leafy parts of your garden vegetables etc etc is a good idea??. Do you think drip irrigation might be a better way to go in the future.?? I love what you did with the chair. Ti's now functional. Your place is looking great..

Thanks Maurice :) yep I think we will do either drip or flood irrigation. Watering the leaves isn't ideal but with our current hose being so powerful its a bit too harsh on the roots. Watering early in the morning or the evening means that its usually evaporated from the leaves before there's too much sun on them

@@FrankieOffGrid I have seen Flood Irrigation and believe to this day it is a waste of a resource..

you should look up sound filtering and filter out the massive "hiss" you have in most of the clips, it does wonders.
