My ancestor built this organ. I did not know this until my sister did some research. Although we have all the dreary oil paintings my family never has aggrandize themselves by other's achievements but it did make my proud to discover this in my lineage.
Not a direct ancestor for me, but a distant family member. I went with my mom, dad and brother to Exeter Cathedral in the year 2000, and I'll just say I got a kick out of signing the guest book there...
Happy days I was at uni at Exeter in the early noughties and was a regular worshipper at the Cathedral. Always remember Paul Morgan’s faultless playing and Andrew Millington dashing to the the console after Sunday evensong to play a big work. I heard there were difficulties at Exeter recently. I hope things have settled down. I hold the place in very great affection.
Many years ago I bought an LP of organ music of Exeter Cathedral the organist was Lionel Dakers who autographed it for me in 1978 when he conducted the Royal school o church music in St George's Cathedral in Cape Town
ds1868 I see there is a TV screen above the keyboards which guess lets you see the choir down below i was on a choir trip back in 1999 singing in this very Cathedral so you could say i know this Cathedral very well from the past but if you watch the choir with this Tv screen how would you know what the choir master is saying say if the choir was practising a peace of music for evensong of Sundays service's.
The organ is by Harrisons of Durham. They have recently completed a major reconstruction of the instrument. The organ case is 17th Century and one of the finest in England. Hope that helps.
Had the opportunity to play this organ a few years ago...........wonderful experience Richard Pollard

My great-great-great grandfather was an organist at Exeter Cathedral in the 1830s roughly.

The Bach sounds well on it. Very clear. And your excellent pedal technique is well rewarded by such a responsive instrument.
Fabulous! Please can we have some more of these organ videos? Pretty please????

What was the name of the Bach piece? Seems like a good one to learn especially for pedal practice. :)
BacHandel 1685 Prelude and Fugue in D major BWV 532. And yes, it’s a really good one to learn!
So how old is it? Who built it? Basic information lacking.
