    The S9 was such a tease. It looked like a FF GM1 with IBIS and a rotatable screen. Shame it was video focused. The unnecessary time limits make it only for sharing short video clips. The price suggests it should do more.
    I'm a loyal Panasonic m43 user and can admit when a camera missed the mark for photo and video. It may still sell very well and happy if it does. But hoping Panny makes at least one SMALL photography based camera(M43 makes most sense). It's a market that's wide open for the taking.

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech  4 місяці тому +4

      Yep. I changed my Sony APS-C camera for M43 end of 2023. Only option I have found which is small and have good AF is OM-5. It's really good for photos, not so much for video. Codecs are hideous.
      I would love Panasonic makes GM5/GX80/90 size camera with G9 II sensor. I do not need 4k120 or even 4k60. But unlimited 4k25p and good photo capabilities. And of course great IBIS :D.

    Great takes here! I was wondering why they flew so many people to Japan for such a low-end camera. Instead of real photographers, I think they want TikTokers reviewing it! Cheers mate!

      Maybe, but still not sure Panasonic is a good fashion accessory :D. Probably depends mostly on the marketing efforts of the Panasonic marketing department. So far I don't see they are doing great job introducing this camera to targeted demographics. Although I do not have TikTok. Maybe there's a big campaign ongoing and maybe they have millions of units sold already :D

      @@JoATTech Leica has the fashion camera market, and at the lower end, Fuji has it. By flying so many people to Japan and giving them "long-term" loan cameras, Panasonic obviously think they can brainwash the new buyers with more money than brains. It would be interesting to see how many of these S9 cameras will still be used after a couple of years, even if people will buy them. Seems to me like huge depreciation here.

      @@RB-pp5tv I think fashion camera is the best answer under my video so far. When I think about it, it's the only logical thing that Panasonic wanted to achieve with this camera. Some of the reviewers mention 4 colors, nice texture and how nice looking it is ... it all make sense now :D.
      GM1 and GM5 were also fasion cameras to some degree, so maybe it's actually their market.
      And we are looking from western perspective. This mignt be actually hot seller in Japan. Do you remember all the Japanese tourists with point and shoot cameras? Maybe not it's S9 market.

    They do not even make any pancake lens in L mount. m43 is the way to go for small camera. They have some pancake lens and every f1.7/1.8 prime is small and light. Bring the fun back Panasonic. You need update your m43 small camera body line.

      Sigma has 3 kinda small l-mount lenses.

    It is very simple - those "reviewers" are not, in fact, producing any reviews. They are doing what is called an "advertisement", just disguised as reviews. Of course, they can't publicly admit it, because they would lose last tiny pieces of credibility they hold on to.

    Also, I don’t think we should be too hard on the camera kids who went to Japan. As a viewer, you should be smart enough to know that these reviews are all a little biased. The UA-camrs should TRY to be unbiased, but realize that they will never catch all their biases. In short: both the viewer and UA-camr (the messenger/journalist) share in the responsibility of getting to the truth. This is true not just of cameras, but of everything that’s important to you.

      I kinda agree. I do not believe almost anything I see online, I always double check. But it's kinda hard to double check when everybody saying this is the greatest thing since sliced bread :D.
      And not sure how you define camera kids, but I've seen there almost only fully grown man. Some of them older than myself :D. I would like to be able to believe what grown man says.
      Different thing is brand bias and different thing is bending reality :D.

    I have two relatively expensive cameras. I upgraded G85 to G9II and I have X100V from time before it become popular. I went from GF1->G5->G85-G9II. GF1 with 20mm/f1.7 lens was great, I liked it, but it was unfortable to use with bigger lens. G5 and especially G85 are much better when it comes to ergonomy. But then I realized I took the most photos with GF1 and I do not enjoy using G85. So Fuji is something like huge upgrade to GF1 after 11 years and I don't regret buying it. G9II is much more versatile, but it's not something I carry without intention to take some photos.
    But this camera? I don't really know. Fullframe with kit lens that has F8, what? What's the purpose? Camera without grip? At least it has texture, but I don't know - that's what I disliked about GF1. 25cm minimal focus distance? X100V has ... i don't know - maybe 10cm or less, it's quite good for close ups. Preset LUTs? Yeah, people like this on Fuji I guess.
    I guess it's not a camera for me. I assume it was released as something that may compete with X100VI, ticking it's two selling points: attractive camera with presets. Otherwise it seems strictly worse: no view finder, no ND filter, no leaf shutter for those who care, no grip, although there is already 3rd party accessory, no weather sealing. Actually ... since it has optional grip, it maybe makes sense, but I don't know the price. Other competition might be Ricoh. But being MFT fan, I'd like to see GX9II and reworked 20mm/f1.7 lens which more flat.

    Right now it feels like people are only talking positively about this camera because their favourite content creators and/or brand is under fire.
    This lens has 0 lenses which benefits the size of the body which is only marginally smaller and lighter than its competitors.
    It offers nothing of value that would be a noticeable improvement over using a smartphone as your 2nd or 3rd choice camera.
    It’s considered for content creators with no option of external audio and ridiculous record limits.
    All these people saying I’ll use it for projects and work. Update me after you’ve actually used it and it’s overheated constantly during your shoot and ruined your “projects”

    The S9 is more or less for iPhone 14 & 15 users who want a style conscious filmmaking upgrade for TikTok and Shorts and the like. Does that market exist among the richest segments of the world population? We will see. For some it will be a play camera for travel and non-paid video. But it’s not a robust option as a primary camera. In a place like Poland it will be a rich kid holiday toy that ends up in the back of a closet. With that said, I do have a few use cases for the S9 in my world but only as a backup or BTS option.

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech  4 місяці тому

      Does it mean you are going to buy it? Or you got just theoretical use cases?
      Not sure rich kids are going to buy it, but maybe the look (with a color choice) is so appealing they will.
      I'm kinda curious how the sales of this camera will be and who will be the target group.

      @@JoATTech I have one on preorder and think I will use it for non-commercial project work. For instance I may do social media filming for a local non-profit group where FHD will suffice and I want to minimize post production and minimize the size and weight of the kit I bring in. Stick a mini gimbal on top of a monopod and you can get around a crowded room quite well-as long as the lighting is reasonable. I think it would be a great camera to use for quick turn around, behind the scenes filming. Weather permitting etc. It’s not ever going to be a primary tool, but used wisely I do not doubt it will pay off. And I think it will be fun pulling together looks on the fly. We will see .

I want as much competition as possible. But good competition :D.

      @@JoATTech The success or failure of Panasonic as a brand in video will probably come down to the Lumix Lab app. No one in the camera business has ever had a reliable and usable app for controlling their cameras and moving files. But from some of the unscripted demos I’ve seen posted from the streets of Japan, this Lab software seems to work quite well, and it opens up on-the-fly creative possibilities at a time when phones can have terabytes of storage. If it works well, then it won’t take long for the S5II series to get a Lab compatibility firmware update. Then you have a more capable camera with the same creative look-on-the-fly options, and then who knows. They could still carve out a solid niche in the market between the LUT capabilities and the crop flexibility of open gate. It’s still an underappreciated resource being able to crop verticals that look good without needing to re-rig the camera back and forth.

    • @LetsBHonest
      @LetsBHonest 4 місяці тому

      That's such a niche and for the price makes it even more of a niche...and a niche camera to have a press party of youtubers to travel to Japan and promote the camera seems kinda strange.

  • @CharlieVN
    @CharlieVN 4 місяці тому

    You really think they’re going to remove the limiters? I can’t remember any brand that has ever removed a limiter. Olympus had the firmware hack, but that’s the only one I can think of.

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech  4 місяці тому +1

      Until 2019 this 30 minute record limit has been artificially forced due to stupid EU camcorder tariff. And it's been repealed in 2019. But camera corpos as always didn't care for older models, so just new models got the limit removed. Also they were to lazy to make 2 different (most of them) models one for EU market one for rest of the world without a limit.
      Now the limits are only due to overheating issues, or to cripple camera on purpose to not cannibalise the sales of better models.
      So it all depends how well S9 initially sells, and if there would be big enough pushback from users who will buy it without knowing this limitation.
      But so far there are quite a lot complains for it. Now it probably mostly depends on "Japan trip" youtubers. If they complain enough in their reviews maybe something will happen :D.

    I think about my 18-year old daughter. The camera is way too expensive for her and too big. The uploading features are great. The fact that you don’t have to sit down at a computer to edit is great. But the form factor is completely wrong. I think the kids want a sub $500 point and shoot zoom with easy upload capabilities

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech  4 місяці тому +1

      Almost every new camera allows uploading photos via wifi to the phone/tablet. Some even upload photos automatically via FTP for editors to edit on the fly (pro cameras, but even A7IV can do it).
      Not sure Sony ZV-1F can doi it, but should.

    This camera seems to be made for street photographers. Because these photographers like to use small cameras with a clean and simple design and they don’t need flash. They also like to take photos unnoticed so the electronic shutter helps in doing so. These photographers are mostly hobbyists that spend a lot of money for their passion. But it’s not a camera for professional photographers as pros invest money only in equipment that pays back the investment. The S9 would be just useless on commercial shoots.

Fixed 26mm manual focus lens at & £200 is another joke. Shame on Panasonic for this media joke. Just for the record I've owned a number on Panasonic cameras like the G9, G7 & G80 all have been fine.
