I do tons of things (hence Jack of All Trades = JoAT). This channel is all about technical side of things. So gear reviews (photo/video/electornics/power tools) and some examples how I use the gear.
Outdoor video shot with a neg and 2 lights
[lighting vlog-0014]: This time I have used a neg instead of the scrim (diffusion) to prevent any unwanted hot spots on my skull :D.

What is Anker 521 PowerHouse good at?
Great comparison
Thx!
I feel your pain. I waited for my unit for nearly 2 months.
The main question is "Are you happy with the unit?". Is it as good as described in all the "reviews"? What camera do you use with it?
It could be worth using a curtsey over the camera to put it in the shade and help you see the screen easier in the bright sun. you probably have an umbrella laying around somewhere that would do the job :)
That's a valid point. I guess I have 5 feet photo umbrella somewhere, but I've been thinking about pop-up tent. Haven't investigated the options yet.
I have to say I prefer the look of the scrim rather than the neg . But good stuff!
I think I prefer the neg look, but scrim look is more common. The problem with the neg and the sunny day was, that everything was looking green. I have to color correct it a bit in post. All the grass and bushes were tainting my skin with green. I does not happen with the scrim, cause it's all washed out with light from above.
F600bi 6 stops ND would suit as a moody evening shot
Good point. It seem that 1.5 stops difference between the talent and the background is the sweet spot. Even 1 EV is fine. But with 6 stops the difference was 2-2.5 EV, so background really looks like evening time :D.
3402 has some interesting things in the background love it
Thanks for doing this video, I find it quite useful. Much appreciated.
Glad it helps. Remember that AF with this speed booster is not the best. For any projects with manual focus would be great. For slow pace portrait shoot you can use AF with this and should work quite fine. But I wouldn't use it for sports, moving cars, animals or even kids, because they move too fast :D.
Do you experience overheating issues ?
Never. For video I've recorded 2h videos of SLOG3 10bit 4:2:2 4k/25p, not even temp warning (but this is in studio settings). But I've also recorded 3h sessions (with total of ~1h of the video with the same setting in full sun) and also not even temp warning. Body got warm to the touch, but nothing scary. Of course camera screen opened. And it was Polish sun, so ~35 deg Celsius :D For photos I've done some sport or outdoor sessions when 500+ photos were shot within 1h, and again no temp warning. Body got warm to the touch and screen has been closed all the time, but no overheating.
@@JoATTech thank you!
Remember ... the Caribbean might be hotter that Polish one :D.
For the hotspot on the forehead, if you really wanted certain light set ups and it’s still a hotspot, it may just be an easy fix with a skin gel. Promatte mattifying gel. Or if its just an oily part of the skin try a skin wipe for oily skin, but the best bet is probably the mattifying gel, I saw it in meet the gaffer episode 198
Other than that maybe use a small flag on the side of the hotspot to act as negative fill to 1)kill the hotspot and 2)get a little more depth so its a win win
@@snickernick3651 That what I actually wanted to do after reviewing that footage. I do not own flags/nets yet :D, but I have some chiffon rags I can put on the 2x2 (or 6x6) to cover the part of it which is responsible for the hotspot :D
I have to check it out and also skin wipes (I think @PDMokry recommended some). Although I prefer the modifier approach, so the flag/neg approach. I'm not a makeup guy 😅😅😅
@@JoATTech keep it up! Support all the way from the Caribbean here 👏 enjoy watching the process ! Good learning
@@JoATTech it’s not considered make up really. The oil wipes are just a wipe to take out oil aha. And the matte gel is just a gel . Treat yourself like a client that you’re trying to make look your best on camera
Good stuff brother
Great channel. Love your content. Watching from Zambia 🇿🇲
Thanks m8. Really happy it's useful :D.
Hi, Can you carry camera batteries with you on cabin bag on Ryan air?
Yes. I actually had 5 batteries for my A7IV. I left one in the body as I remember correctly which is not the best idea :D.
@@JoATTech thank you so much for the reply. I'll definitely keep that mind as I travel next week with Ryanair. Best regards 🙏🏾
@@KarMah17 Some people reported in the comments that only 2 batteries are allowed. But my son had 3 batteries for his GM1. I think 2 batteries rule is for bigger units (like 20000mAh), but it's worth checking in Ryanair rules what is allowed. We had 8 in total :D.
@@KarMah17 And I guess that security guys rather apply some general rules, not rules per airline ... so if they allowed me with 5 batteries both directions you should be fine with any airlines.
amazing video bro! thanks
Image quality: Panasonic way better. Stability: Osmo, but panasonic is not bad at all. If you put them separately you’ll never notice.
Great video man, i found it very useful for my needs. I laughed at the “that’s what she said” comment. Ignore the haters and keep going. Good luck
Vagabond and vagabond mini will work for you. Made for flash power pull
I've got Fossibot F800 and it works with 3 flashes at once, although if it's overloaded it drops the voltage so recycles 3 flashes within 3.5 seconds.
It's hard to choose one best look here. I have at least 3 I like :D
I was looking for a vid like this, thanks 🙏🏼
There is a way to expose the window correctly with 300W CoB, but you have to use some tricks. I would share the video how to do it till end of this month (probably:D). But generally light that gives 25000-30000 lux is best bet for the show with a window. If you have multiple windows with high noon sun, 1200W CoB is a must.
@@JoATTech thanks, I was really looking to see how this would do in corporate settings with large windows to see if it can fill enough light but I guess a 600 is just the safest bet aha
@@parttimepaul Depends on the window sizes and how bright is the sun. I've seen really nice BTS breakdown of a documentary series. And when they were fighting bright sun shinning through the row of windows they actually used 600W + 1200W CoBs in one softbox (actually Light Dome 150). So 600W is not always enough.
Just got mine yesterday. I ordered it two days after the release, so starting to come through now
Tough call, ZV-E10 mk2 just got released. I know that BMPCC 6k image is magic, but Sony is even cheaper and got 10bit 4:2:2 SLOG3 now :D.
Great review. Ive aslo bought this battery and havent found a better deal yet
Thx. There is new F1200, but it's more than twice as expensive as F800 for double the capacity, but max power is just 1200W. So F800 still seems like the best deal.
😢😢😢
"That's what she said." well done.

Great video !i been 🫣🤢🤮wondering. Discontinued? Why is dji not anouncing the issues on youtube?! The big kit avalible? Exhausting.🎉.Thank You
Maybe the put full force into producing and selling drones, before US ban? I've seen RS Pro + Lidar combo available, but I do not need a gilmbal, and this combo does not include small focus handle (only big one is included). So 2.5x the price and 90% of gear I do not need. Maybe they underestimated the demand on the cheapest set?
Been waiting for a month to order too, but can't find it anywhere. sadly
Yeah ... I'm close to giving up, and getting some camera with AF :(.
@@JoATTech I was able to order directly from their website, which will be shipped in few days, few minutes later they were all sold out. Keep your eyes on DJI website. You might get lucky.
Yeah! Always a long wait for new gear. It sucks! I’m also waiting on the focus pro…
It's not always a case, sometimes new gear is even available sooner then official launch date (here in Poland). But sometimes it's delayed 2 months here :(. But this case is ridiculous. Although it seems it's been available for spit second after a launch (official distributors had 1-2 units :o).
@@JoATTechYeah! In my case it’s been a waiting game - Nikon Z9, Nikon Z8, Dji wireless mics, follow focus… The follow focus is much needed. I have the XT-4 with sirui nightwalkers 24,35,55mm. I will wait until I get one.
@@JoATTechI would love to visit Polen someday! I’m from Sweden 👍
@@CPSWEDEN So maybe it's a problem with the supply chain in Sweden? Although I'm not sure about Nikon in Poland. But Panasonic and Sony are usually available here the same day as for rest of the world ... not DJI though (I have to order Pocket 3 from Germany).
@@CPSWEDEN What stops you? It's just 1h40m flight and 2800 SEK tops (ticket both directions) :D
Hi Same problem here...no DJI avaible...my P6K org has the USB C port dead unfortunatly.Great image imho...for the price and good training for manual focus..😂😂😂
I've seen one online shop advertised they will have it on 27th of June. Not it's no longer in their offer :D Maybe they should send less units out to "influencers" :D
Can you mount the whole junior pin on the frame inside maxi grip head?
Not sure what maxi grip head is. If this is normal grip head (like one you can find on c-stands), then no. Junior pin won't fit there. Junior pin goes whole into junior pin receiver :D. Here I'm using grip head with junior to baby and avenger longer than usual baby pin (~ 3:30)
Your skin tones and lighting look amazing! I'm a big fan of Aputure/Amaran, but lately I've been purchasing Nanlite Slim lights. Their small footprints make it easy to place in tight spaces. Thank you for sharing your lighting setup and thoughts!
Slims seems to have impressive output for the size. My problem with Nanlite is that I'm already using 2 apps to control my lights: one for Amaran/Aputure and second one for Godox. 3rd app will be annoying. That's why I opted for Godox accent bulbs, even though nanlite ones are 2 times cheaper than godox and 3 times cheaper than B7C from Aputure. I hope new Aputure app will allow to control Nanlite too.
@@JoATTech I know what you mean. I use the Sidius app for Aputure/Amaran, Wingman for PreMix3, Nanlink for Nanlite, LiteSync+ for my Intellytech lights, AND sometimes I'll use the Red or Sony Camera app ALL AT THE SAME TIME. That's not even including the Teradek apps (2 of them). I had to buy an iPad mini dedicated to just managing all these apps. I don't think I could handle another app at this point. Good luck!
@@12yfilms 😅😅😅😅 I also have dedicated phone for teleprompter :D Aputure promises their new app will handle all the manufacturers, but I'm not sure DMX module is needed or not.
It’s bad 😢 every elevation as big as a shoe after you go over with the front wheel no problem the middle lower part of the scooter stops and throws you off all that 😂😂😂
It's generally a city scooter, but I'm riding it mostly offroad and never had any problem like that. For sure the chassis is quite low, but I never fallen off of it due to this. And the plus is that center of gravity is low, so this is beneficial. But it's not a competitive scooter to make tricks on a pump track. There are scooters with higher frame with smaller wheels.
@@JoATTech that is my personal experience …. I am riding it every day. I also have a pair of off-road tires … I’ll stick to trust in my lying eyes … Tired of snake, oil salesman
I use the mirage w vnd. I get x pattern . Is that normal, why as advertised no x pattern.Thank You
What lens? They use a small print on their page, and they say that they guarantee no x-patter for 35mm and up on a full frame. But it all depends on the lens design. On APS-C I've been able to use even 16mm (24mm equiv) without x-pattern, but some users reported x-pattern on some 35mm lenses on FF cameras. I think on FF I got x-patern on 24mm, haven't got it on 35mm (sony F1.8). And it's actually not that bad, cause with Vaxis 3-7 stops filter I have x-pattern even on 35mm :(. But generally Tilta VND filter is kinda crappy. Because of x-pattern, cool color cast and stops different that advertised.
FF24-70 leica, real bad w 10-25 mft leica .No x pattern should mean you know. Missed the fine print. I did contact them and i think my message said to stop my apeture down to 3.5 but prob meant what you said 35. I bought 5 thinking one and done. Appriciate the feedback. Thank You
@@DroseMr stopping aperture might help as well cause iris size is smaller then and it can reduce cross pattern because it’s usually take place on the outside of the image circle. Do you got cross pattern on the whole range or on shorter focal lengths?
Great idea dude, thank you for sharing
This self seen 750kg+ of meat already and my grill 1500kg+ :D
Giant combo boom, gymnast rings, so many hobbies, bro is SO single lol.
Quite the opposite. Rings are my daughter's, and I have like 1h to record the video so there was no time to remove them from the shot. I guess if I'm single I would have so much time I could remove them for the cleaner looking frame :P Although rings are nice, I sometimes try them unsuccessfully (so far).
Can you put (2) Vaxis Circle filters in the single 95mm Circle tray? Or do you need the Dual tray? The single tray looks like it can fit 2 on top of each other with the lock?
You can put 2 filters into 1 Circle Tray, but DUAL Circle Tray (first link in description). So 2 filters in 1 slot via dual circular tray. Single slot won't fit 2 trays, but 2 filters in one dual tray (it has same width but has 1 filter on each side).
What about the GVM SD600D? They say that one has almost double the output of the 650B. I don't understand how that is possible...Any thoughts?
Who says that? GVM page says SD600D is 19000 lux at 1m, so less than Aputure 600D and in theory less than GVM650B for which they promise 21600 lux at 1m.
@@JoATTech Okay so it's the stats with the reflector. I'm guessing that's unreliable because the shape and reflectivity of the cone. But the according to this video ua-cam.com/video/JbktLjSJdFA/v-deo.html the 650B will be an apparent 1 stop dimmer. Not a huge deal breaker and worth the bi-color. But you're right. They shouldn't falsely advertise
@@bohdandoval9621 Values I mentioned are bare CoB, no reflector. With reflector you are in 90-110k lux range, it depends on reflector. Not sure when in the cited video guy says it's 1 stop brighter, doesn't look like it based on the parades (i've seen this video long time ago). And 1 stop brighter means it's double the output, which is a huge difference. Actually seems that nowadays you can achieve daylight brightness with bi-color or RGBWW - new Aputure 600C Pro II is on par with 600D in the light output, but it's full spectrum RGBWW with G/M correction. The only con is the price :D.
Great comparison! Thank you. I love that you left in the struggles and learning process. This is valuable and many people edit it out.
Thx. Although tons of people skip these parts or whole video because it's now to long for their attention span :D.
UA-cam reviewers say good things because it will give them brand loyal followers. This camera is a joke when you can get a s5ii used cheaper
But looks like the reviewers has got a backlash even from Panasonic fanboys :D Some of them even removed kinda offensive comments from under their videos :/
Zgadzam się z tobą
Ale Samyang ze swoim tanim szkłem może spowodować, że S9 stanie się hitem. Obecnie nie ma za bardzo małego szkła do niego ...
Well done I do agree. Nothing wrong with Panasonic cameras but this S9 is a media joke. Saying it is a Fuji X100VI competion is another joke. Fixed 26mm manual focus lens at & £200 is another joke. Shame on Panasonic for this media joke. Just for the record I've owned a number on Panasonic cameras like the G9, G7 & G80 all have been fine. If Panasonic has issued a decent small lens either fixed (say 35mm) or Zoom (18-45) or similar it would have been less of a joke.
Samyang just released their first lens for L-mount. If they release their 24mm F2.8 and 35mm F2.8, this might be perfect match for S9 and it will become a bit reasonable camera :D.
Old people that need a lighter full frame camera. ME.
That is valid, but I'm waiting for the review, with night photos, because some ppl claim lack of mechanical shutter causes banding with artificial light. And also seems there are only 3 kinda small AF lenses for S9 (Sigma 17mm F4, Sigma 24mm F3.5 and Sigma 45mm F2.8. So small body does not make much sense atm. I wish Samyang releases their 24mm and 35mm F2.8 ... they will be dope with such small camera body.

Solution 1200w or maybe less diffusion...lantern or bounce to the roof
Or less ND, or ND in the window :D But actually Godox F600Bi and 600D with thiner diffusion and no grid are exposed correctly, judging from parade (skin is @ ~70%).
I have both lights as well and on the past 4-5 shoots I've used the F600Bi as my key and the 600D outside the window or inside to light the space. The tiny bit of extra softness with the Lite Dome 150 I find not to be worth the difference in effort and time. I would use 3-4 stops of ND on the window because even if you're well exposed it makes the window look like a rainy day where there shouldn't be enough light inside. Good video, there aren't too many people spending this much time showing their testing. Keep it up!
Exactly my thoughts. F600Bi is a gem. It looks soft even without the external diffusion. And I actually plan to use 600D as a fake sun together with F600Bi as key in near future. Light Dome 150 is only better with the grid, because this grid is ~40 degrees, so if you need to shape light more it's more useful that this totally lame grid shipped with F600Bi. Other than that, F600Bi is much faster and easier to handle. And for 3-4 stop of ND, do you record in SLOG? Or some other picture profile? At 4 stops I got blown highlights in the window all the time (if weather is sunny). Today it was really overcast so 4 stops might be ok for 90% of the day, but when the sun was up, 5 stops were not enough, cause SLOG native ISO is 800 :D.
